Chapter 347
Timothy couldn't believe his ears. "Mr. Clinton, are you serious?"
He knew all about the mess Constance had gone through at Dawnridge and the drama with Felix. After finally helping her move on, there was no way he was letting them get back together.
Felix's face was dead serious. "Mr. Drake, I'm not joking."
Timothy set his cup down, his face turning stern. "My daughter is strong-willed; she's not a good match for you, Mr. Clinton."
Felix's eyes narrowed. Was this a flat-out no?
Felix shot back, "Mr. Drake, how can you say that without even giving us a chance? If you set up a date for me and Miss Drake, I'll hand over the Shallow Bay project to you."
Timothy's gaze turned icy. "Mr. Clinton, I won't use my daughter for business deals. If you're looking for a family that trades love for profit, you've got the wrong guy."
With that, Timothy stood up and walked out.
Even when he got home, he was still fuming.
Eliza saw his face and asked, "What's got you so worked up? Who in Thundertop would dare to piss you off?"
Timothy snapped, "I met with Felix tonight."
Eliza quickly glanced at the stairs to make sure Constance wasn't around, then pulled him into the room.
"Why bring up Felix here? Constance has finally moved on; I don't want her dragged back into that mess."
Timothy frowned. "I know. Felix came to me today, asking for a date with Constance. I don't think we can keep this under wraps much longer."
Eliza's face turned serious. "I didn't think the Clinton Group would grow so fast. We sent Constance abroad three years ago to keep her away from Felix. We can't do that again. They'll run into each other eventually."
Timothy was quiet for a moment, then said coldly, "No matter what, I won't let him hurt Constance again, and I won't let them be together."
Eliza sighed, "I remember how broken Constance was three years ago. It took so much to help her forget Felix. She's happy now, and I don't want her tangled up with him again."
Timothy reminded her, "But from the way Felix acted, he knows Constance is his ex-wife. He won't give up easily."
Eliza snorted, her voice full of anger, "So what if he doesn't give up? The Drake family isn't scared of him. He's not good enough for Constance. I just want her to live a peaceful, happy life without any more drama."
"Alright, let's take it one step at a time. I'm heading to the study to handle some paperwork. You should get some rest."
After Timothy left, Eliza still felt uneasy. She called her friend, asking her to find some photos of young, promising men. The main thing was good character.
After her friend hung up, Eliza felt a bit more at ease.
She thought, 'If I can get Constance with another man before Felix finds her, he won't dare to forcefully take her then!'
The next morning, as Constance came downstairs to go to work, she saw two bodyguards in the living room.
She looked puzzled. "Mom, are you going out?"
Eliza used to go shopping, but never made such a big deal out of it.
Eliza waved her over and said, "Constance, I don't feel safe with you going to work alone, so I hired two bodyguards to protect you. These two are the best from Black Security. One is named Tom Butler, and the other is Trevor Butler. They're brothers and will be responsible for your safety from now on."
Constance was taken aback and immediately refused, "Mom, there's no need. I'm just going to work, not doing anything dangerous. The guys from Black Security are top-notch; using them to protect me is overkill. Plus, I can take care of myself."
Tom and Trevor exchanged surprised glances. They had expected to be dealing with a spoiled princess, not someone so down-to-earth.
Eliza wasn't having it. "No way. You're a young woman commuting a long distance every day. If something happens at work, we can't get there fast enough. I won't feel safe unless you have protection."
Constance sighed, clearly frustrated. "Mom, it's really unnecessary. If I show up to work with two bodyguards, people who know me will understand, but those who don't might think something's up. I don't want bodyguards!"
With that, she turned and walked out.
Her dad and brothers didn't have bodyguards from Black Security, so why should she?
Eliza looked at Tom and Trevor and said coolly, "What are you standing around for? From now on, Constance is your top priority. Forget about going back to Black Security. The moment you left, you were no longer members."
Their faces darkened. Tom was quiet for a moment but couldn't help speaking up, "Mrs. Drake, we want to go on missions. We're willing to risk our lives, but we don't want to be babysitters."
Eliza sneered, "Do you think staying with Constance will be a walk in the park? She'll face plenty of dangers, just like you do on missions. If you don't want to protect her, you can leave now."
Tom was about to argue, but Trevor pulled him back. "Mrs. Drake, we'll protect Miss Drake, even if it costs us our lives!"
As they left the Drake Villa, Tom fumed, "Why didn't you let me speak? I've been through hell for over ten years, not to end up as a babysitter!"
"If you'd kept talking, Mrs. Drake would have kicked us out for real. Our best bet is to stay with Miss Drake and look for a chance to get back to Black Security later."
Tom's eyes were full of frustration. "I'd rather face danger every day than follow Miss Drake around like this."
Trevor chuckled. "Yeah, but do we have a choice? Let's go."
Constance had no idea Eliza had ordered Tom and Trevor to keep protecting her. She drove straight to Luminary Ventures Group.
The HR manager personally handled her onboarding and led her to her office, smiling. "Miss Drake, Xavier said you didn't want to be too high-profile, so I didn't let anyone know you're from the Drake family. I hope that's okay."
Constance nodded and smiled. "Thanks, Dylan. This is perfect. My brothers also started as regular employees, and I don't want people to focus on my family name. I want them to notice my work."
Seeing her grace, HR manager Dylan held her in even higher regard.
"Alright, Miss Drake, if you need anything, my office is always open."
Constance felt a bit awkward. "Dylan, just call me Constance."
"Alright."
After Dylan left, Constance started getting familiar with her work. Since she was new and didn't have an assistant yet, she had to handle a lot on her own.
But she didn't realize that Dylan personally showing her around had already sparked gossip in the design department.
"Did you see the new designer today? Dylan personally handled her onboarding and showed her around. She must have some serious connections, right?"
