Chapter 345
Jonah's face went dark, and he shot Daniel a frosty look.
Jonah snapped, "Yeah, yeah, I get it. No need to keep rubbing it in."
Daniel's eyes flared with anger. "I'm just looking out for you! What, you planning to stay single and childless forever?"
Jonah scoffed, "To you, I'm not even your son. Just a baby-making machine for the Getty family, a puppet to run the Getty Group, right?"
Daniel's face tightened, and he replied coldly, "Jonah, everything I do is for you. If you weren't my son, do you think I'd let you run the Getty Group?"
Jonah sneered, "Sure, but let's be real. You can't have more kids. If you could, you wouldn't be putting all your chips on me, would you?"
"You!"
Seeing Daniel's furious and embarrassed face, Jonah said icily, "I'll go to the date tomorrow, but only because the Getty Group can't afford to piss off the Drake family right now. But if you set me up on another one of these dates, I'll start finding some marriage prospects for your precious daughter!"
Daniel's eyes widened in shock. "You wouldn't dare!"
Even though he didn't plan to hand over the Getty Group to Cecilia Getty, she was still his beloved daughter, and he did have some genuine fatherly feelings for her.
Jonah's eyes were fearless as he said, "Just watch me. Considering what she and her mom have done to me, it wouldn't be too much even if I kicked them out of the Getty family."
With that, Jonah got up and left.
Daniel gripped the wheelchair's armrest tightly, seething with anger. If the Getty family didn't need Jonah right now, he would've kicked him out ages ago!
But thinking about how Cecilia couldn't handle the Getty family's business, Daniel felt a wave of helplessness.
Leaving the Getty Mansion, Jonah headed straight to his villa in Thundertop.
The decor of this villa was a carbon copy of the one in Dawnridge. This way, every time he came back, it felt like Gianna was still around.
It had been three years since she left, and so much time had already flown by.
The next day, after work, Jonah went straight to the date spot.
On the way, he decided he'd act a bit off when he met Constance, so she'd naturally lose interest in him.
When he got to the place, Jonah saw a woman in a cream-colored spaghetti strap dress with slightly curled long hair, sitting with her back to him. He took a deep breath, walked up to her, and sat down.
"Miss Drake, I don't think we're very..." Before he could finish, he froze, his face full of disbelief and surprise. "Gianna, you're not dead?"
Constance looked at him puzzled and frowned. "Do we know each other?"
Constance thought, 'Does Mom set me up with a nutcase?'
When he sat down, he was clearly about to say they weren't a good match, and she was ready to leave after finishing her coffee. But suddenly, he looked at her with excitement.
"You don't recognize me?" Jonah's face was full of sadness and hurt, and his gaze at Constance was filled with confusion.
Constance raised an eyebrow. "Should I? Mr. Getty, if I'm not mistaken, this is our first meeting, right?"
Jonah asked, "You have amnesia?"
After thinking for a bit, Jonah figured this was the most likely explanation.
Constance couldn't help but laugh, putting down her coffee. "Mr. Getty, you must be joking. I don't have amnesia; I even remember clearly where I went to elementary school."
Jonah was stunned. He thought, 'Could it be that the person in front of me isn't Gianna? But could there really be someone in the world who looks so similar?'
Constance took a sip of coffee and said slowly, "Mr. Getty, did you investigate me beforehand?"
Jonah frowned, thinking, 'No way this is just a coincidence; the person in front of me has to be Gianna.'
Jonah asked, "I used to be an actor, and you were my agent seven years ago. Have you forgotten all that?"
Constance frowned, her voice dropping a notch. "Mr. Getty, I was only nineteen seven years ago. How could I have been your agent? If you're gonna make up a story, at least come up with a better one."
Seeing the impatience in Constance's eyes, Jonah felt a pang of pain in his heart.
Jonah thought, 'She really has forgotten everything. But why did she lose her memory, and how did she end up as a Drake? I need to dig deeper.'
He forced a smile and said slowly, "I'm sorry. I must have mistaken you for someone else. My friend passed away three years ago. Miss Drake, you just look a lot like her, so I thought you were her."
The displeasure in Constance's eyes became more apparent. No one liked being compared to a dead person.
She stood up abruptly and said coldly, "Mr. Getty, it seems you're very dissatisfied with today's date. Let's leave it at that. I'll tell my parents we didn't click. Goodbye."
Jonah quickly stopped her. "No, I'm very satisfied with you, Miss Drake. I've fallen for you at first sight."
Constance laughed in anger, her expression turning icy. "Mr. Getty, are you treating me as a stand-in for your dead friend? If I'm not mistaken, you must have liked that deceased friend of yours, right?"
Jonah's expression remained calm. "Miss Drake, I'm not treating you as anyone's stand-in. I simply like you, that's all."
Constance said, "But I don't like you."
As she turned to leave, a cold voice sounded behind them, "Mr. Getty, long time no see. I hope you've been well."
Jonah and Constance turned simultaneously to see a tall figure walking towards them, his face exuding an unapproachable coldness.
Seeing Felix, Jonah's heart sank, and he deliberately moved a couple of steps to the side to shield Constance.
Jonah said, "Mr. Clinton, I don't think we have the kind of relationship where we can catch up, do we?"
Three years ago, upon hearing the news of Gianna's death, Jonah had rushed to Dawnridge and fought with Felix.
From that day on, he vowed to make Felix pay for it.
He had worked hard for so many years, and now the Getty Group had surpassed the Clinton Group in many aspects. But he also knew that if he didn't keep pushing the Getty Group forward, the Clinton Group would soon overtake them.
Felix's lips curled into a smile, but it didn't reach his eyes, remaining cold.
Felix asked, "Mr. Getty, the Clinton Group is also interested in the Shallow Bay project. Could you voluntarily withdraw?"
Jonah's gaze turned icy, and he said word by word, "No way. Knowing that the Clinton Group wants this project makes me even more determined to get it."
Felix chuckled. "Well, I'll wait and see. I hope the Getty Group can truly defeat the Clinton Group."
With that, his gaze lingered for a second on the hem of the dress peeking out from behind Jonah, then he turned and left.
As he walked out of the restaurant, Felix said coldly, "Find out immediately who the woman dining with Jonah here today is."
Anyone who could make Jonah so nervous must be important to him.
And Felix intended to grasp Jonah's vulnerabilities!
Watching Felix's figure disappear at the restaurant's entrance, Jonah finally breathed a sigh of relief and turned to Constance, his eyes filled with apology.
Jonah said, "Miss Drake, I'm sorry. That person just now is the boss of a rival company to the Getty Group. I hope he didn't scare you."
A look of surprise flashed in Constance's eyes, and she smiled. "That person just now was Felix, the CEO of the Clinton Group?"
