Chapter 348
"I don't know, but I just heard Dylan call her Miss Drake. Could she be from the Drake family?"
"No way! If she was from the Drake family, she wouldn't be working at a small company like this!"
Everyone was buzzing, throwing in some compliments about Constance's looks. When Jennifer came out of her meeting with the design department manager, she still caught a few whispers.
She called her assistant, Clara Cooper, into the office. "Go find out who they're talking about out there."
Clara was back in no time.
"Jennifer, they're talking about the new designer in the design department. Her name's Constance Drake. They're wondering if she's from the Drake family," Clara explained.
Jennifer sneered, "The Drake family? It's just a coincidence with the last name. Tell them to focus on their work and stop gossiping during office hours."
Seeing Jennifer's annoyed expression, Clara didn't dare mention that some colleagues said Constance was way prettier than Jennifer. She quickly left.
Jennifer picked up a document from her desk, a cold glint in her eyes.
The annual company design competition was coming up, and she couldn't let other designers steal the spotlight. She decided to use the Clifford Group contract to test Constance's skills!
With that in mind, Jennifer immediately got up to find the design department manager, Grant Stewart, creating an opportunity for them to meet.
Almost everyone in the design department knew that Jennifer had a thing for Grant. Although Grant was elegant and gentle, no one dared to like him because Jennifer was the daughter of the Chambers family. If they angered her, not only would their job be at risk, but their future at Thundertop would also be uncertain.
Jennifer walked to Grant's office door with the document, knocked, and entered, only to see a slender woman with big wavy curls sitting with her back to her at Grant's desk.
She tightened her grip on the document, feeling a premonition that this woman was the new designer.
Grant asked, "Jennifer, what do you need?"
Grant's voice was gentle, but his gaze at Jennifer was calm. Everyone could see that he had no feelings for Jennifer, but she refused to give up.
Jennifer steadied herself and walked in with a smile. "Grant, I came to deliver a document. This must be the new designer. I wanted to meet her, and it’s such a coincidence to run into her."
As soon as she finished speaking, the woman in the chair turned around, smiling at her. "Hello, Jennifer."
Jennifer's steps faltered, almost tripping in shock. It was Bella, that bitch!
"Bella, what are you doing here?"
Constance raised an eyebrow, looking puzzled. "Jennifer, I'm Constance Drake. This should be our first meeting. Are you mistaking me for someone else?"
Jennifer gritted her teeth and said coldly, "How could I be mistaken? You are Bella. What is your purpose here? Are you here to get back at me?"
Constance asked, "Jennifer, did you do something to wrong someone? Why would you think someone is here to get back at you?"
"You!" Unexpectedly, Constance was so sharp. Jennifer had no choice but to look at Grant. "Grant, this woman is Bella, the girlfriend of the president of the Clinton Group. I don't know how she got a fake identity to enter our company, but we can't keep someone like her. She might leak company secrets to the Clinton Group!"
Before Grant could speak, Constance couldn't help but laugh.
Seeing the mockery in her eyes, Jennifer instantly became furious. "What are you laughing at?"
Constance said, "Your words are laughable. Can't I laugh?"
"What's so funny? You're a spy trying to steal the company's designs!"
Constance's smile grew wider, and she said slowly, "If I remember right, the Clinton Group's fashion industry is already the second largest in Thundertop, just behind the Drake Group. If this company were under the Drake Group, I'd admit to stealing designs. But why would I steal from a company that's not even on the same level?"
Constance thought, 'Besides, I don't even know the president of the Clinton Group. Jennifer thinks I look like his girlfriend. Now I'm curious about what she looks like.'
Jennifer snapped, "Stop making excuses. You're definitely here to steal designs!"
"Enough!" Grant cut in, looking at Jennifer with clear irritation. "Jennifer, Constance and I have something to discuss. Please leave."
Jennifer looked stunned. "You don't believe me?"
Grant's face remained impassive. "Constance was hired through a formal process. I don't want to hear any more baseless accusations."
Jennifer clutched the document so hard the edges dug into her palm, but it couldn't compare to the pain in her heart.
Jennifer thought, 'I've worked with Grant for years. I thought even if he didn't like me, he at least considered me a friend. But now, he's scolding me for a new designer. Constance, right? I'll remember this!'
Jennifer spat, "Grant, you'll regret this!"
She stormed out, slamming the office door behind her.
Grant frowned, a trace of displeasure in his eyes. "Constance, I'm sorry. Jennifer just has a bad temper. Once you get to know her, you'll see she's not a bad person."
Constance smiled but kept her thoughts to herself. 'Not a bad person? She seems pretty bad. I haven't forgotten how Jennifer pushed me towards Ryan's knife before! I just didn't expect Jennifer to be a designer at Luminary Ventures Group.'
Grant said, "By the way, there's a batch of orders recently. Jennifer might not be able to complete them by the deadline alone. How about you assist her?"
Constance pursed her lips and said slowly, "Grant, I don't like working with people who dislike me. If possible, could you split the order in half? Jennifer and I can each handle half without interfering with each other. How about that?"
Grant nodded. "That works. I'll discuss it with Jennifer later."
Constance said, "Okay, if there's nothing else, I'll head back."
"Alright."
After Constance left, Grant worked for a while until it was almost noon. Then he asked his assistant to call Jennifer over.
Jennifer was still visibly angry when she entered Grant's office.
Jennifer mocked, "Grant, you still remember me? I thought you only had eyes for the new Constance!"
Grant ignored her jab and said calmly, "Split the Collins Group project you're working on and give half to Constance."
Jennifer was about to refuse but then realized that Constance didn't even have an assistant. If she gave her half, Constance definitely wouldn't be able to complete it.
Jennifer agreed, "Alright, I'll have Clara split it and send Constance's portion over."
Grant reminded, "Good. You and Constance are colleagues now. You'll see each other often. Maintaining a good relationship will improve work efficiency."
Jennifer snorted, "I don't need you to tell me that. I know these things."
But she couldn't pretend to be friendly with Constance, especially after the incident. No one could know about it. Since Constance was pretending not to recognize her, if she ever dared to bring it up, Jennifer could always claim she was being slandered!
Soon, Clara delivered the split order to Constance.
As Constance took the document, Clara smiled and said, "Constance, the deadline for this order is the 29th of this month."
