Chapter 354

"Hey, you!" Jennifer was fuming, but Constance didn't waste a second. She grabbed Jennifer and tossed her out of the office, then slammed the door shut and locked it.

Jennifer landed awkwardly, and everyone nearby saw it. But they all quickly looked away, pretending they hadn't seen a thing.

Jennifer usually threw her weight around because she was a Chambers. She was always acting high and mighty, especially if any female colleague talked to Grant for more than a minute. She'd warn them off, so no one really liked her, and they kept their distance.

Seeing her get a taste of her own medicine, everyone felt a bit of satisfaction.

Jennifer shot a death glare at Constance's office door, her hatred for Constance growing by the second. She wasn't going to let this slide. Still fuming, she stormed back to her office, fired up her computer, and shot a message to Eric to vent.

Jennifer: [Eric, there's this new designer at our company who's a total nightmare. She stole the Collins Group deal from me and even hit me today. You gotta do something!]

Eric, being the doting brother he was, always spoiled Jennifer. Whatever she wanted, he'd make it happen. Seeing his sister upset, he replied right away.

Eric: [Who the hell is messing with you? I'm coming over. Where's Grant? Did he just stand there and let this happen?]

Jennifer: [Eric, it's not his fault. That witch somehow got Liam on her side, and he insisted she handle the Collins Group project!]

Even though Grant's actions today had let her down, she didn't want her family to think badly of him. She still had plans to marry him.

Eric: [Hang tight. I'll be there after work. I want to see who dares to mess with you!]

Jennifer: [I knew I could count on you!]

Closing the chat, Jennifer smirked. With Eric backing her up, even Grant wouldn't be able to stop him from dealing with Constance.

Soon, it was quitting time. Jennifer got a call from Eric and hurried downstairs. They sat in a car by the curb, waiting for Constance to leave. During the wait, Jennifer badmouthed Constance non-stop, and Eric's face grew darker with each word. Finally, Constance walked out of Luminary Ventures Group.

Eric spotted her first but didn't realize she was the woman Jennifer had been trash-talking. A flicker of excitement crossed his face. He'd fallen for Constance at first sight when they went on a date, and marrying her would elevate the Chambers family. But Constance had been pretty cold to him lately, so he hadn't had a chance to see her.

Thinking quickly, he said, "Jennifer, I see someone I know. I'll go say hi first!"

Before Jennifer could respond, he got out of the car and walked briskly towards Constance.

Constance was heading towards the Drake family car that had come to pick her up when she heard a slightly excited voice behind her. "Miss Drake, long time no see!"

She turned and saw Eric. Surprise flashed in her eyes, followed by a polite but distant smile.

"Eric, long time no see," Constance replied. She didn't like Eric, but she didn't want to start anything with him either. People like Eric seemed polite on the surface, but who knew what they were really up to.

Eric asked, "Miss Drake, are you here for a business meeting?"

"No, I work here," she replied.

Now it was Eric's turn to be surprised. "Miss Drake, why aren't you working at the Drake family company? Aren't you supposed to take over the Drake Group someday?"

Hearing the probing tone in his voice, Constance smiled. "Not really. I'm not into managing companies; I love sketching designs."

Eric asked, "So, you're a designer?"

"Yep, just started at Luminary Ventures Group recently."

Eric was about to say something when he remembered Jennifer's rant about the new colleague who hit her.

"Miss Drake, my sister's a designer too. Do you know her? Her name's Jennifer."

Constance put on a surprised face and said, "Yeah, I know her, but we don't exactly get along."

Eric's suspicion grew. The woman Jennifer had been badmouthing had to be Constance. His eyes darkened, and he quickly said, "Jennifer's been spoiled since she was a kid. If she's done anything to offend you, let me know, and I'll set her straight."

Constance raised an eyebrow, a hint of cold sarcasm in her eyes.

"Eric, to be honest, things with Jennifer are complicated. Today, she accused me of plagiarism in front of everyone. Later, Mr. Collins liked my draft and made me the lead designer for the Collins Group orders. She barged into my office, accused me of sleeping with Mr. Collins, and tried to hit me. I couldn't take it anymore and slapped her."

Eric frowned. He knew Jennifer's personality well, and this sounded exactly like something she'd do. "Miss Drake, I'm sorry. I hope you don't take it to heart. I'll make sure she learns her lesson and won't bother you again."

Constance's expression stayed cool as she nodded. "Alright, as long as Jennifer stays out of my way, I'd appreciate it."

They chatted for a few more minutes before the Drake family driver approached Constance. "Miss Drake, we need to head back. All your brothers are home for dinner tonight, and they're waiting for you."

"Okay." Constance looked apologetically at Eric. "Eric, I have to go now. Let's catch up next time."

Eric watched her leave until the Drake family's car drove off, then headed back to his own car.

As soon as he got in, Jennifer eagerly asked, "Eric, what did you say to that witch? Did you make her quit?"

In the past, when Jennifer complained about colleagues, Eric would force them to leave. If they refused, he'd threaten or harass their families until they did.

But this time, Eric looked at her seriously. "Jennifer, you need to apologize to Constance tomorrow."

Jennifer's smile vanished, her eyes wide with disbelief. "Eric, are you nuts? Why should I apologize to her?"

Eric took a deep breath and said coldly, "Do you know who she is?"

"Who cares? Just some witch who pissed me off!"

Eric continued, "Her father is Timothy, the CEO of the Drake Group!"

"What? No way." Jennifer bit her lip hard, jealousy and anger boiling inside her.

She had thought Constance was just some nobody, but she turned out to be the youngest daughter of the Drake Family! Did that mean she couldn't touch her in the future?

"Eric! Even if she's the Drake Group CEO's daughter, she can't just hit me. You and Mom and Dad have never hit me, but she slapped me hard today. Look, I still have a handprint on my face!" Jennifer said, looking pitiful, her eyes welling up with tears.

She wasn't lying; the handprint on her face was still clearly visible, showing that Constance had hit her with full force.

Eric felt a pang of sympathy, his eyes darkening. "Jennifer, I'm trying to win her over. If she marries me, the Chambers family's status will skyrocket. Forget about Grant; you might even marry into the Drake family. So, from now on, not only can you not go against Constance, but you also need to be nice to her. Got it?"
