Chapter 229
Gianna looked calm. "I gave him 10% of the Clinton Group's shares."
Felix frowned. "You gave up 10% just to keep those employees from getting fired? Thomas must be thrilled."
Gianna smiled. "Think about why Thomas wants to transfer the Clinton Group's assets."
"What does that have to do with giving him shares?" Felix frowned.
"He only has 20% of the shares. Once Natalie returns, he has no shot at winning the next election because the three of us hold 50%. If any shareholder votes for you, he's done. But with my 10%, his chances improve."
Felix's eyes widened in disbelief. "You think with this 10%, he'll stay in the Clinton Group?"
Gianna nodded. "Transferring assets is risky. If he can control the Clinton Group and suppress you, it's tempting. But it's a gamble."
And having Thomas stay in the Clinton Group was exactly what they want.
If he transfered all the assets and escapes, catching him again would be tough.
Felix's eyes were cold, "You'll win this gamble."
Thomas has always hated him, thinking he stole the president's position. If he can stay, he can enjoy suppressing Felix. Plus, his father Jesse managed the Clinton Group. He wouldn't want to destroy it.
"As long as we gather evidence of Thomas's crimes, we can remove him from the presidency."
Felix nodded, "I get it, Gianna. Thanks."
Admiration shone in his eyes. Looking at Gianna, he felt lucky not to have missed her.
After lunch, with Felix's fever gone, Gianna planned to return to Elm Bay.
Felix frowned, "When are you moving back in?"
"Depends on my mood. Forgiving you doesn't mean moving back right away."
Felix's eyes darkened as he grabbed the car keys, "I'll drive you back."
Gianna shook her head. "No need. You're still sick. I'll drive myself."
Back at Elm Bay, Gianna saw a nanny van at the neighboring villa.
She raised eyebrow,'Jonah's back?'
As she wondered, Jonah's agent walked out and asked, "Gianna, you moved back?"
Gianna nodded, "Yes, did Jonah finish filming?"
Agent Kyle looked uneasy, "Yes, but his health isn't great. He doesn't want me to take care of him here. If you have time, please help him."
Before he finished, the villa door opened.
"Kyle, you forgot this script..."
Seeing Gianna, Jonah froze, then forced a smile. "Gianna, it's been a while."
Gianna noticed the crutches and cast on his foot, "Is your injury due to filming?"
Jonah's eyes dimmed, "Yes. Why are you here?"
"I've moved back," Gianna replied." Is it hard for you to live like this? Maybe hire a caregiver."
Jonah shook his head, "No need, I'm used to it."
Gianna didn't push, "If you need help, just message me. I have to go now."
"Okay."
When Gianna got back to the villa, Kyle angrily turned to Jonah, "You got hurt saving her, missed out on good scripts, and lost gigs, yet you won't say a word. You'll never win her over at this rate!"
Jonah handed him the script, looking calm, "I didn't save her to get her to like me."
Kyle rolled his eyes, "Keep sacrificing yourself. If you win her over, I'll be impressed!"
Then, Kyle stormed off with the script.
Back home, Gianna spent the afternoon tweaking Emily's design drafts. After emailing them back, she went downstairs for a coffee.
She had just taken a sip when Faith called.
"Gianna, Hayden was taken by the police." Her voice was flat.
Gianna took another sip, "Privately, you're family. At MY FASHION, you're colleagues. He crossed the line. Any consequences are on him."
Faith's voice came back, softer, "I know, but it still hurts."
No matter how bad Hayden was, he was still her second uncle.
She had already sent Kevin to jail, and now Hayden too. She couldn't stay indifferent.
Family members called her heartless. Since Hayden was taken, her phone hadn't stopped ringing with people scolding her.
She felt confused. Kevin and Hayden did wrong, so why were they blaming her?
Gianna paused before saying, "If you're sad, I can ask the judge for a lighter sentence."
"No need. I'll get over it. He violated the company's interests and should be punished."
Gianna comforted her for a while. After hanging up, she thought of Thomas.
When Thomas confessed, the Clinton family would feel as hurt as Faith did now.
She had never received kindness from the Redstone family, so she couldn't empathize with Faith or the Clintons.
She only felt kindness from her adoptive parents, brothers, and some non-blood-related people. In her world, she treated well those who treated her well. Blood ties didn't matter.
As she lost in thought, the doorbell rang.
She opened the door to see Felix and frowned, "What are you doing here?"
Felix held a takeout boxes. "I didn't want to eat alone, so I came over."
Gianna let him in. Seeing the spread of dishes, she frowned, "It's just us. Do we need this much food?"
The table was loaded with eight dishes and a soup, enough for five or six people.
"We can put leftovers in the fridge for tomorrow."
Seeing his casual attitude, Gianna felt something was off, "You don't plan on staying here tonight, do you?"
Felix, caught, didn't hide it, "You won't come to my place, so I came to yours."
Gianna glared, "How can you be so shameless?"
Seeing her anger, Felix quickly pulled her to the table, "Let's eat first, or the food will get cold."
Gianna glanced at the dishes, thinking they couldn't finish it all. She might as well send some to Jonah.
As for inviting Jonah to join them, she thought about it and decided against it.
"Wait, I'll call Jonah and see if he's had dinner. If not, I'll send some dishes over."
Felix's face turned sour, "Who did you say you were sending the food to?"
