Chapter 423
Jennifer bit her lower lip, and tears suddenly rolled down her cheeks. "It's all because of Constance! I hate her!"
A trace of mockery flashed in Eric's eyes. "Jennifer, I advise you to take the card and leave. Staying at Thundertop will only cause more trouble for Dad and me!"
Preston was still at the police station. After sending Jennifer away, Eric had to go to the station.
Thinking about it made him agitated. He wasn't even sure if he could secure the position of CEO of the Chambers Group!
"Where's Dad? I want to see him! He said that as long as I came and begged Constance for forgiveness, he wouldn't cut ties with me. Was that your idea? I want to see Dad!"
Eric sneered, "Fine, if you want to see him so badly, go to the police station!"
Jennifer was stunned, disbelief flashing in her eyes. "What do you mean? Why the police station?"
"Why? Shouldn't you ask yourself? If you hadn't insulted Constance online, no one would have anonymously sent evidence of the Chambers Group's illegal activities to the police, and Dad wouldn't have been taken away!" Eric said angrily.
"Before he went to the station, he asked me to plead with Constance for your forgiveness and to arrange for you to leave properly. Jennifer, what else do you do besides causing trouble?" he added.
Facing Eric's cold gaze, Jennifer felt as if a giant hand was squeezing her heart, making it almost impossible to breathe. "How could he... You must be lying to me."
"Believe it or not, pack your things immediately. I'll have someone take you to the airport."
Jennifer gritted her teeth in anger. "No, I won't go abroad! I want to see Dad!"
Eric had lost his patience and directly instructed his subordinates, "Take her back to the Chambers family to pack her things. If she doesn't cooperate, take her straight to the airport."
Realizing she couldn't change Eric's decision, Jennifer seemed to finally lose hope.
"I'll go back myself! I don't need your people to drag me back!" she said.
"Jennifer, don't try any tricks, or you'll regret it."
"Don't worry, I have nothing left. What tricks could I possibly play?"
Hearing this, Eric seemed to agree and said nothing more, letting his subordinates take Jennifer back.
Back at the Chambers family, Jennifer used packing as an excuse to find a business card in her drawer and dialed the number.
"Brian, does your offer still stand?" Jennifer asked.
There was a few seconds of silence on the other end before Brian's indifferent voice came through. "Jennifer, you had a chance, but now, because of your stupidity, the Chambers family is about to go bankrupt. You have no value to me anymore."
With that, Brian hung up.
Hearing the busy tone, Jennifer collapsed to the ground.
At that moment, she finally understood how foolish it was to target Constance all this time.
She had harmed Preston and the Chambers Group.
The news of Jennifer being sent abroad overnight quickly spread through Thundertop's high society, but no one sympathized with her. After all, she had been arrogant and offended many people.
The Chambers Group was already on the brink of collapse. After the police received evidence of its illegal activities, they arrested Preston, and the company faced bankruptcy.
Eric sold off many of the Chambers Group's assets to save the company, but the Chambers family fell from the top eight families in Thundertop to the bottom, even below some smaller families.
Later, Eric pulled many strings to get Preston released, but Preston didn't continue as CEO and handed the position to Eric.
Everyone thought Eric would be manipulated by the Chambers Group's shareholders, but he managed to remove those with ulterior motives and stabilize the company quickly.
Constance no longer concerned herself with the Chambers family's affairs. Even without Jennifer's offense, the Chambers Group wouldn't have lasted long. That incident merely accelerated its downfall.
She arranged to meet Rebecca to pick out a birthday gift for Felix.
As soon as they met, Rebecca couldn't help but say, "You and Felix are moving fast. Weren't you just debating whether to be with him? Now you seem completely smitten."
"It's not as exaggerated as you say."
"Alright, what do you want to get Felix for his birthday?"
"I haven't decided yet. Let's check out the mall first."
"Sure, whatever you get him, he'll love it."
They chatted as they walked into the mall. After visiting two stores, they ran into Bella.
Rebecca frowned and sneered, "What bad luck!"
They thought Bella would cause trouble, but she just gave them a cold look and left the store.
Rebecca looked at Constance in surprise. "Constance, am I seeing things? Did Bella just leave on her own?"
"No, she really left."
"That's strange. I remember her arrogant attitude last time. How did she change so quickly?"
Constance pursed her lips and said softly, "Maybe she learned her lesson."
After all, Thomas had suffered at Timothy's hands and would likely blame Bella.
"Forget it, let's not worry about her. Let's keep shopping."
In the end, Constance picked out a gray suit for Felix. After buying the clothes, they shopped a bit more. They planned to have dinner together, but Rebecca suddenly got a call from her film crew and had to leave in a hurry.
Constance took a cab home. As soon as she walked into the living room, she heard Timothy's voice coming from the study.
She was surprised. Why would Timothy suddenly come to see Felix?
As she approached the study door, she heard Timothy say, "I found Christopher's address, but he refuses to see anyone. I've visited several times without success. Now, the servants are wary of me. It's going to be hard to get any information from Christopher."
Felix's voice was cold, "If he won't cooperate, we'll have to force our way in."
"No way!" Timothy's tone was clearly displeased. "You don't understand Christopher's personality. If he doesn't want to see someone or say something, even if you put a knife to his throat, he won't utter a word."
With Timothy's words, the study fell silent.
Constance was puzzled. Was the Christopher they were talking about the one she knew?
As she pondered, the study door suddenly opened from the inside.
Seeing Constance standing at the door, Timothy was taken aback. "Constance, what are you doing here?"
Constance snapped out of her thoughts and quickly said, "I heard your voice in the living room and came to check. I didn't expect you to be here. But I heard you mention Christopher. Is it the same Christopher I know, the master?"
Timothy frowned and said in a deep voice, "Yes, but this is a business matter. You don't need to worry about it."
