Chapter 369
When Felix got out of the shower, Constance was already knocked out, but she left a lamp on for him by the bed. He dried his hair, slipped into bed quietly, and turned off the lamp.
Constance had thought she'd be up all night, but she crashed pretty fast. The next morning, she opened her eyes and nearly jumped out of her skin seeing Felix's handsome face right in front of her.
She shoved Felix away and quickly checked to see if her pajamas were still on. Relieved, she glared at him. "Seriously? You promised you wouldn't touch me if I didn't want you to!"
Felix, still groggy, took a second to figure out what was going on. "Constance, I think you've got it wrong. You're the one who came over to me."
Seeing the smirk on his face, Constance was about to snap back when she realized she was on his side of the bed. Did she mistake Felix for her body pillow in her sleep? She did have a habit of hugging a pillow at home, and last night she had been too tired to think about it.
Her face turned bright red with embarrassment. "Sorry, but you're not off the hook. If you noticed I moved over, you should've pushed me away instead of letting me do whatever."
Felix raised an eyebrow. "But I really like it when you do that."
They stared at each other until Constance couldn't handle the tension anymore. She jumped out of bed. "I'm going to wash up!"
After freshening up, Constance came out of the bathroom, avoiding Felix's eyes. She grabbed her clothes from the closet and quickly changed before heading out.
Watching her bolt, Felix chuckled. He thought, 'She must still have feelings for me; otherwise, she'd be disgusted, not shy.'
With that thought, Felix's mood lifted.
On her way to work, Constance couldn't stop thinking about that morning. After a lot of hesitation, she texted Felix, suggesting they sleep in separate beds, and she could even take the floor.
But Felix didn't reply all morning. She wasn't sure if he hadn't seen the message or was just ignoring it.
The whole day, Constance was distracted, and her drawing efficiency tanked.
Half an hour before the end of the workday, Constance finally got a reply from Felix: [Sorry, I've been in meetings all day and missed your message. I don't think we need to sleep separately. It's normal for couples to cuddle. But if you really mind, I'll push you away if I see you coming over.]
Constance stared at the message, her brows furrowing. It seemed Felix wasn't up for sleeping separately. Thinking about waking up to Felix's face every day for the next three months made her feel pretty down.
After work, Constance went downstairs and saw Felix's car parked by the curb.
James opened the passenger door and walked over, smiling. "Miss Drake, Mr. Clinton sent me to take you to dinner."
Constance didn't want to go, but remembering their contract, she nodded. "Okay."
Felix was wrapping up a business meeting near the restaurant they'd agreed on. After finishing, he came over, and they met at the entrance.
Constance said, "Mr. Clinton, we don't need to eat out. We could just hire a cook to make dinner at home."
Felix glanced at her. "What did you just call me?"
Seeing the irritation in his eyes, Constance quickly changed her tone, "Felix."
Felix sighed, "Yeah, we're eating out today to celebrate us living together again. Plus, I have something important to tell you."
"Alright."
They walked into the restaurant, and after ordering, Felix looked at her seriously. "About what happened three years ago, I think I need to clear things up. Otherwise, you might always misunderstand me."
"What?" Constance's grip on her water glass tightened, her knuckles turning white.
Eliza had told her that she loved Felix deeply back then, so when Felix chose Bella, she must have been crushed.
Constance shook her head. "Regardless, you chose Bella. Explaining now is pointless."
She thought, 'What else can he say? The only explanation is that he loved Bella more, so he gave up on me.'
Seeing the mockery in her eyes, Felix frowned and said slowly, "Whether it has meaning is not for you alone to decide. For me, explaining to you is necessary."
Constance pursed her lips and said indifferently, "Then go ahead."
"Three years ago, I didn't choose Bella. Thomas had kidnapped both you and her. He said the left path would lead to you, and the right path to Bella. I chose the left without hesitation, but when I reached the end, it was Bella who was there."
Hearing this, Constance's eyes widened in shock, disbelief written all over her face. "So, you're saying Thomas tricked you? I was actually on the right path?"
Felix shook his head. "No, no matter which path I chose, I couldn't have saved you because Thomas had you locked up somewhere else."
Constance lowered her gaze. Given the conflict between Felix and Thomas that she had investigated, it was possible Thomas would do such a thing. But she wouldn't believe him so easily.
She asked, "Do you have any evidence to back up what you're saying?"
"I do." Felix took out his phone and played a recording. "This is the truth Thomas told me after I captured him." As he spoke, his voice trembled, and his eyes were filled with pain.
Constance was surprised but said nothing.
Soon, Thomas's cold voice came from the phone, "Felix, even if you kill me now, what good will it do? You can never bring Gianna back to life. Do you know what I told her back then? I told her I told you the left path would save Bella, and you chose the left without hesitation. She died hating you!"
With a scream, the recording abruptly ended.
Constance didn't know how to describe the shock she felt. She took a sip of water and said slowly, "Even if it's true, it's all in the past now."
She had lost all her memories. When she thought Felix had abandoned her, she had some resentment towards him, but now that resentment had disappeared, leaving nothing.
Felix looked at her, his voice dry. "You still won't forgive me, will you?"
Constance was silent for a few seconds before sighing, "No, it's just that the truth doesn't matter anymore. I don't love you anymore. This recording has erased my resentment towards you. I hope that after three months, we can be strangers."
Felix's eyes filled with desperation. "Why? You clearly loved me back then. If you regain your memories, will you be willing to love me again?"
Meeting his somewhat obsessive gaze, Constance said slowly, "My mother has described our past relationship to me. I think I was too humble back then, and that kind of love isn't what I want. So, I don't want to regain my memories or be with you again."
Felix was silent for a long time before forcing a smile. "I still have three months to make you fall in love with me again."
