Chapter 268
Garrett let out a heavy sigh, glanced at Jonah's hospital room door, and dropped his voice.
"The dude in room 1203 has got a gnarly hematoma on the back of his head. It's so big it's squishing his blood vessels and nerves. No doc in the country wants to touch it. His main doc and I go way back, so he hit me up to see if I could help shrink it a bit before they cut him open."
Gianna's face went pale. She didn't think Jonah's situation was that bad.
"Garrett, he's my buddy. Can I check out those test results?" Gianna asked.
Garrett looked surprised but quickly nodded. "I was gonna find you anyway. If you're down, maybe we can pull this off."
Gianna was the legendary Dr. Crescent, after all. There wasn't much she couldn't handle in the OR.
Garrett led her to Jonah's attending doc's office. On the way, Gianna couldn't help but ask, "By the way, do you know how he got hurt?"
"I heard it was some accident on set. He ran into a fire to save someone and got clocked on the head by a falling chandelier."
Gianna frowned, a memory flashing in her mind. She remembered being burned in a fire and seeing Jonah before she blacked out. But when she asked him about it later, he denied it.
'He got hurt running into a fire on set? That's too much of a coincidence,' Gianna thought.
Her expression changed suddenly. "Garrett, I just remembered something. You go ahead; I'll catch up!"
Without waiting for Garrett's reply, she spun around and hurried to Jonah's room.
Inside, Kyle was casually setting down some food. "Jonah, do you really think it was worth it? You just had a headache, and Gianna bailed before I even got back. I really think..."
Jonah cut him off calmly, "Kyle, you know during the flood at Sunnydale Meadows, if she hadn't come back for me, I'd be dead. Besides, it was my choice. I never expected anything in return."
"Even if it was your choice, it's messed up for her to leave you like this! What if something happened to you? Wouldn't she feel guilty?"
Jonah clenched his fist, coughed lightly, and said, "Enough. Don't bring it up again. Just act like it never happened."
Kyle didn't say more but looked bummed out.
When Gianna walked in, she could feel the tension. Kyle seemed even more ticked off at her.
But she didn't have time for that. Looking at Jonah, she said, "I need to ask you something."
Jonah's face was calm, "What is it?"
"Eight months ago, I was trapped in an apartment building and almost burned to death. Before I passed out, I thought I saw you. Later, when I texted you, you denied it."
The room went dead silent.
Gianna locked eyes with him and asked slowly, "When I was in that fire, were you really not there?"
After a few seconds, Jonah shook his head firmly, "No, I was filming. Unless I could teleport, there was no way I was there. You must've been hallucinating."
Kyle, standing nearby, kept his head down but clenched his fist.
He looked up at Gianna, "Miss Redstone..."
"Kyle, remember the doc said you should get my meds."
Meeting Jonah's warning look, Kyle lowered his eyes and stood up, "Alright, I'm on it."
After Kyle left, Jonah met Gianna's suspicious gaze and said calmly, "I'm telling the truth. If you still doubt it, you can check. I had an accident on set around that time, so it's verifiable."
Gianna didn't push it further. "Alright, I get it. Take care of yourself. I've got some stuff to handle. I'll swing by another day."
"Okay."
As soon as she stepped out of the hospital room, her phone buzzed. It was Garrett.
"The attending doc had an emergency, and I gotta bounce too. But I scanned Jonah's test reports and shot them over to your email."
"Got it. I'll check them out right now."
After hanging up, Gianna headed out of the hospital.
Once she was in her car, she pulled up her email and skimmed through Jonah's medical records. Her face turned serious.
With Jonah's current state, even if she did the surgery herself, there was only a 50% shot at success.
She grabbed her phone and called Garrett, "Garrett, I went through Jonah's reports. Is there any way we can use our method to help shrink some of the hematoma?"
"I doubt it'll do much. The hematoma's at the back of his head, with a ton of nerves underneath. Any meds could mess with the nerves."
Gianna pressed her lips together and said softly, "Right now, I can only promise a 50% success rate. If the edge of the hematoma shrinks by even a millimeter, the success rate could jump to 80%."
Garrett was quiet for a moment before speaking seriously, "I'll give it a shot, but no promises."
"Alright," Gianna replied.
After hanging up, she drove back to the villa and dove into research.
She wasn't super confident about the surgery and wanted to see if there were any similar cases abroad.
It wasn't until dawn that Gianna, exhausted, passed out at her desk.
When she woke up, she was startled to see someone standing in front of her desk.
Seeing it was Felix, she finally relaxed. "When did you get back?"
"Not long ago. Why are you digging into these medical materials?"
Gianna's eyes flickered. She took the papers from his hand and said calmly, "It's nothing, just some light research. You must be wiped from your trip. Go get some rest."
Felix lowered his eyes and didn't press further, turning to leave the study.
Gianna organized the materials and walked to the living room, where she saw Felix sitting on the sofa, deep in thought.
She went to the kitchen to make a cup of coffee, planning to head back to her room.
As she passed the sofa, she couldn't help but ask, "Aren't you gonna rest?"
Felix looked up at her, his eyes filled with complex emotions she couldn't read.
"Gianna, don't you think there's something off with our relationship these past six months?"
Gianna paused and looked at him calmly, "What do you mean?"
"For the past six months, Bella's been messaging me, telling me about her prenatal checkups."
Gianna nodded, "I know. What's that got to do with us?"
"Doesn't it bug you that another woman is sending me this stuff?"
Meeting Felix's questioning gaze, Gianna was silent for a few seconds and slowly said, "I thought you were cool with it, and you haven't done anything shady."
Seeing her calm eyes, Felix's long-suppressed emotions finally blew up.
"I don't think any woman would be okay with her boyfriend constantly chatting with another woman, unless she doesn't love him anymore!" Felix shouted.
Gianna's grip on the coffee cup tightened. She lowered her eyes and asked, "Did something happen while you were away?"
Felix's hand at his side clenched, "Answer my question first!"
Gianna sighed, a bit helpless, "Felix, I didn't sleep at all last night, and you just got back. Let's talk about this when we're both calm."
With that, she turned and walked upstairs.
Just as she reached the staircase, she suddenly heard a rush of footsteps behind her.
The next second, her wrist was grabbed tightly!
