Chapter 188: Who Rescued Me?
When Gianna woke up, it was already the next day.
She felt a sharp pain in her throat and couldn't speak.
"Gianna, you're awake!" Felix, looking scruffy, was by her side.
"Are you feeling okay? I'll get the doctor!" he said hurriedly.
The doctor checked her and told Felix, "Mr. Clinton, Gianna's fine. She just needs rest, and her throat will heal in about a week."
With Felix's help, Gianna sat up and drank some water.
Fully awake, she remembered someone had saved her just before she passed out.
Unable to speak, she looked for her phone but couldn't find it.
Seeing her anxious, Felix asked, "What are you looking for?"
Gianna gestured for a phone.
Felix handed his over, and she typed: [Who rescued me?]
Felix's face changed slightly. "A firefighter. I've already thanked him. We'll thank him together once you're better."
Gianna: [Is he okay? Is he badly hurt?]
"He got a bit hurt, but it's not serious. Focus on getting better."
Gianna felt relieved but still had doubts. She thought the voice sounded like Jonah's but dismissed it, thinking it was just a coincidence.
After she fell asleep, Felix called Sophia.
"Don't tell Gianna Jonah saved her,' he instructed.
"What if she asks?"
"Get a firefighter. We'll thank him when she's better."
"Got it."
By the third day, Gianna could speak, though her voice was hoarse.
Faith and Dominic visited, and Faith's eyes reddened seeing Gianna's condition.
"Gianna, how are you?"
"Much better. How's the company?"
"Ronald's parents used dye that caused his allergy. He's given a statement, but his family fled. The police are looking for them."
Gianna nodded, "Good. How are MY FASHION's sales?"
"Better than before."
"That's good."
They chatted a bit more, then Felix came in.
Faith's expression changed. She stood up, "Gianna, we'll be leaving now."
"Okay."
Outside, Faith said, "Dominic, should I tell Gianna the truth? Jonah's condition is still unknown."
Dominic sighed, "Faith, that will upset Felix. Gianna's still recovering. Telling her now won't help. Wait until she's better and then hint at it."
Faith hesitated, "Alright, we'll talk after she recovers."
Gianna recovered quickly and was discharged a week later, but Summer's family was still missing, likely having fled abroad.
Gianna had Garrett look into the situation, but he found nothing, confirming someone was pulling the strings behind the scenes.
On the day she was discharged, Gianna and Felix went to thank the firefighter who saved her.
On the way back, Gianna was silent, lost in thought.
Back at the villa, Felix asked, "You've been quiet. Something on your mind?"
Gianna shook her head, "No, just tired."
"Then rest up. I'll call you for dinner."
"Okay."
In her bedroom, Gianna opened her laptop and searched for news about the fire.
Reading about the brave firefighter and her miraculous survival, she felt uneasy. The firefighter she met didn't seem like the one who saved her. His voice was different too. Was she hallucinating?
After some hesitation, Gianna messaged Jonah.
Gianna: [Jonah, someone tried to kill me by setting a fire. Before I passed out, I thought I saw you.]
He replied quickly: [You must have been hallucinating. I've been filming in Hengdian these past few days.]
Gianna felt a mix of relief and something else. At least she wouldn't overthink it now.
Gianna: [That's good. Keep filming. I won't disturb you.]
She put down her phone and soon fell asleep.
Meanwhile, at the First Hospital of Thundertop City, a patient with severe burns lay unconscious.
Outside the ward, Jonah's agent finished replying to Gianna and handed the phone to Daniel Getty.
"Mr. Getty, satisfied with the response?" the agent asked.
Daniel snorted, "He got himself into this mess for a woman. If he weren't my son, I wouldn't care!"
The agent, eyes full of mockery, knew Daniel only remembered Jonah after discovering his other son wasn't biologically his. Now he acted hypocritically.
"Mr. Getty, if Jonah wakes up and knows what you've done, he'll be furious."
Daniel's expression was cold, "He'll understand I'm doing this for his own good. That woman isn't worthy of him. I'll find someone better."
Seeing Daniel wouldn't listen, the agent said no more, hoping Jonah would wake up soon.
Gianna was awakened by Felix knocking at the door. It was already dark outside.
She sat up, recalling her dream. She thought she was still in that burning room, with flames closing in. Just before waking, she saw Jonah's face on the person who had saved her.
Shaking her head, she thought she must be losing it, replacing the firefighter's face with Jonah's in her mind.
She got up, opened the door, and told Felix, "I'll wash my face and come down."
After dinner, as they were about to relax, the doorbell rang.
