Chapter 104 It is all Wrong

He took a quick look at the notebook; it was already bulging.

Clearly, it had seen some action.

He wondered what she was jotting down in there. Was it her deep, dark secrets or her guilt trips about his family?

He was about to crack it open.

Margaret, sprawled on the bed, mumbled, "Raymond... Raymond."

Raymond set the notebook on the table without peeking inside. They'd come too far, and whatever was in there, there was no going back to how things used to be.

They were doomed from the start.

No matter how hard they tried, it was still a mess.

What Raymond didn't know was that his current "whatever" attitude towards the notebook would turn into full-blown devastation and madness when he finally saw what was inside after Margaret's death.

Margaret kept calling his name. He found himself walking over to her, bending down, and putting his ear close to her lips, trying to catch what she was saying.

"Raymond, help me, help me take care of my family, please." Margaret seemed to be trapped in a nightmare, tears streaming down her face.

Raymond's expression was a mix of emotions, his eyes burning with hatred. With a cold, handsome face, he left the bedroom, gently closing the door behind him.

Margaret woke up the next day, finding herself still in the bedroom.

The wound on her forehead was wrapped in gauze.

She knew it was Raymond who had bandaged her!

Did this mean he was having second thoughts?

Margaret felt a glimmer of hope. She quickly got out of bed to wash up and change clothes.

She looked at herself in the mirror, her face as pale as a ghost's. She needed to doll up to find Raymond and make him keep his promise.

He had said that if she knelt, he would consider it.

Finally, he had softened, and she needed to act fast to make it happen.

Then, she could leave this world in peace.

She skipped the makeup because she knew Raymond liked her natural and pure.

She just put on some lipstick and wore the blue coat Raymond had once bought her.

It was the only piece of clothing he had ever bought for her, but she had initially hated it.

She had never worn it, letting it gather dust in the closet.

After that, she didn't let Raymond buy clothes for her anymore, thinking his taste was awful. She even took over his wardrobe.

The shirts, shoes, even socks, and underwear he wore were all picked by her.

Raymond was like a model or a piece of art in her hands, becoming more handsome and attractive under her styling, which caught the eyes of many young girls fresh out of school.

She once went to the Hughes Group to find him and saw it firsthand. At that time, Marlon was still the chairman of the Hughes Group.

Raymond hadn't turned against her yet, and their marriage was still solid.

The young girl was a rich second-generation, an intern who had just joined the company. She was bold and eager, blocking Raymond at the Hughes Group to ask for his WhatsApp.

Margaret happened to see this and watched from the doorway.

Raymond walked over to her, pulled her into his arms with authority, and kissed Margaret in front of the young girl, flaunting their love.

The young girl backed off, realizing that Raymond was married, and quickly apologized and left.

Thinking of the past, Margaret's lips curled into a sweet smile. Even though she now knew it was all an act, that Raymond was faking it, she still cherished those times as beautiful.

After changing clothes, Margaret drove straight to the company.

In the president's office, she didn't see Raymond.

Where could he be?

Logically, he wouldn't be MIA; he was always super focused on his work.

Alvin walked in just then and looked surprised to see Margaret chilling on the sofa. "Mrs. Howard, what brings you here?"

"I'm waiting for Raymond. Where is he?" Margaret quickly got up from the sofa.

Alvin grabbed a file from the desk. "He's in a meeting. What happened to your forehead?"

"It's nothing, I just took a tumble down the stairs and hit it." Margaret smiled a bit. "Thanks for asking."

Alvin pressed on, "Did you go to the hospital? It's not a joke."

"I did; it's just a minor thing, nothing serious." Margaret pursed her lips and changed the subject. "When will he be out?"

Alvin thought for a moment and said, "We've got some big clients in today, so the meeting might go until lunchtime. Do you need me to pass a message to Mr. Howard?"

Alvin was trying to be helpful; he didn't want Margaret to just sit around.

"It's nothing. I'm not in a hurry, so I'll wait here. You go ahead with your work; don't mind me." Margaret looked a bit troubled.

She was here to get Raymond to keep his promise, and that kind of awkward stuff couldn't be passed through Alvin.

"Alright. I'll have someone bring you a cup of coffee. I'll head to the meeting room now."

"Okay."

Alvin left the president's office with the file.

Soon, a hot secretary with heavy makeup brought in a cup of coffee and set it in front of her, her tone a bit snarky. "Mrs. Howard, here is your coffee."

Margaret nodded, and the secretary strutted out.

The big office was once again just her.

Maybe Raymond hated her too much, or maybe it was because of that live broadcast of her kneeling outside the Hughes Group, watched by a ton of people, including employees.

That's why the secretary was so rude.

Margaret didn't care; she was here today to make sure the promise was kept.

To avoid missing Raymond during his lunch break, Margaret waited in the office.

She didn't go downstairs for lunch, worried that Raymond might come back while she was gone. It would be a wasted wait.

When Alvin ordered takeout, he included her too.

She ate the takeout, but still no sign of Raymond.

Checking her phone, it was already 12:30. Wasn't this lunchtime?

Could Raymond have left? No way. She had been in the office the whole time, and he hadn't come back.

A cleaning lady came in to tidy up and took away the takeout boxes. Margaret thanked her and then asked, "Excuse me, is there still someone in the meeting room?"

"Yes, Mr. Howard is in there," the cleaning lady replied in a thick accent.

Margaret asked, confused, "Aren't they having lunch?"

"They're eating, but Mr. Howard is still in the meeting, so it hasn't ended," the cleaning lady said, tossing the takeout boxes into a big black plastic bag and leaving.

Alvin came in at that moment, carrying a plate of snacks and a plate of peeled fruit, placing them in front of Margaret: "Ma'am, have some fruit."

"When will Raymond's meeting end?" Margaret asked.
