Chapter 563 So It Was Her Wishful Thinking

The familiar handwriting stung her eyes, and her fingers trembled slightly as she held the notebook.

[Today at school, someone called me a bastard. Margaret stood up for me, shielding me and saying I was her friend. She made the person who bullied me apologize.]

[Today was really rough. It seemed like Margaret forgot about me. But I clearly told her my name. I wanted to get close to her, to be friends, but I'm just a bastard. I don't deserve to be her friend. So I deliberately ran into her at various places in school, believing that one day I could stand in front of her openly and tell her my name.]

[I followed her through middle school, high school, and college. I watched her grow from a naive girl into a beautiful woman. I hadn't become as excellent or powerful as I imagined, and she went after Raymond.]

[Margaret is marrying Raymond. I got drunk. The princess found her knight and doesn't need my protection anymore.]

[Two years later, on a mission, I saw Margaret kneeling in the snow. I was in charge of dispersing the crowd. But Margaret didn't seem to recognize me. She never remembered me. So I pretended it was our first meeting and gave her some ointment.]

[Margaret isn't happy. She has late-stage liver cancer, and Raymond doesn't believe her. I need to be Margaret's support and fallback, so I returned to the Hughes Family to inherit the family business.]

[I arranged for David to perform surgery on Margaret. Before Raymond's liver transplant surgery for Margaret, he entrusted her to me. Raymond was in the ICU, and Margaret prayed for him. Raymond woke up, and I returned Margaret to him. Although I was unwilling, I hoped she would be happy.]

[Margaret and Raymond divorced. Margaret was framed and almost died, and I saved her. She forgot everyone but Raymond.]

[Margaret and Raymond remarried. I became her brother, hoping my Margaret would be safe, happy, and everything would go smoothly.]

[She gave me her bouquet, wishing I would find my own happiness, but I know I won't. Missing her means everyone else is just a compromise.]

Lyric looked at these diary entries, feeling a complex mix of emotions she couldn't describe.

Her fingers continued to flip through the notebook, the paper pricking her fingers painfully.

[I don't know if it's fate, but I met a young girl named Della. Her confident and generous smile really reminds me of the old Margaret.]

[Gerald is hovering around her. I won't allow my prey to be taken.]

[Della dressed in clothes Margaret liked, and she really looked like Margaret. No matter how much she looks like her, she's not her.]

No matter how much she looked like her, she was not her!

Prey must not be taken!

These labels pierced Lyric's heart, making her bite her lip in suppression.

She smirked self-deprecatingly. So she was just being delusional. She was just prey. Being with Daniel was all thanks to her appearance.

[Margaret, I like you. I really like you. Don't reject me, okay?]

Lyric recalled the first time he got drunk and they ended up in bed together, and he called out Margaret's name.

From that moment of deep entanglement, it was all a doomed relationship, a mistake.

"Margaret, no matter what I do to you, you can't give up halfway. Unless I don't want you, you have to stay by my side."

His voice echoed in her ears.

Like a sharp knife, it cut through her skin, severing her tendons, leaving her heart bleeding and throbbing with pain.

No wonder he made her agree to such unreasonable demands, because from the beginning, he never intended to treat her as a girlfriend. She was just a plaything, a substitute.

No wonder he left without a word, lying about working overtime. It was because the woman he loved was having a baby and needed him.

How could he be indifferent?

Lyric smirked, her nose tingling with the thought that she had loved him for so long, and she even had his child.

Luckily, she hadn't told him, or it would have been a complete joke.

How could he want a substitute to bear his child?

Daniel wasn't as good as he seemed. He just gave the illusion of being a gentleman, refined and courteous. In other words, his goodness depended on the person.

Bitter, hot tears welled up in her eyes.

They dripped onto the notebook's pages, falling on her pale fingers gripping the notebook.

She had been too foolish, not listening to her best friend's advice.

Her friend had warned her multiple times not to sleep with Daniel without clarity, as it would lead to being controlled and taken advantage of.

"What are you doing?" A furious shout, like thunder, erupted behind Lyric.

The identity of the person was obvious.

Lyric's body trembled as she slowly turned around.

She saw Daniel standing at the door, dressed in a suit and slightly flushed. He walked toward her with a look of displeasure.

He approached her step by step, reeking of alcohol.

Lyric frowned, staring straight at him.

Drinking like this, was it because his Margaret was upset?

She smirked.

Daniel's mind was clear. He hadn't expected Lyric to be in this room. This room was his forbidden place, and no one usually came in, so he didn't lock it.

But he never expected her to come in. What had she seen?

Had she just come in, or had she seen everything she shouldn't have?

Daniel felt an inexplicable panic. He grabbed her wrist and dragged her out of the room: "Is this a place you should be? Get out!"

His grip was strong, making Lyric's eyes water from the pain.

If she hadn't seen those photos and the notebook, she might have listened to him.

But now, things were different.

She didn't leave. Instead, she used all her strength to shake off his hand. She looked at her reddened wrist, then raised the notebook in her other hand: "Daniel, don't you think you owe me a reasonable explanation?"

Daniel's eyes froze when he saw the notebook, his mind going blank as if struck by lightning.

She had seen it.

She knew everything.

He had thought he wouldn't be afraid of her seeing it. So what if she saw it? She was just a substitute. But now, he realized it wasn't like that. He felt an inexplicable panic.
