Chapter 366: I Hope You Are Safe, Happy, Healthy, and Smooth This Time
Raymond asked, "Have you thought about it?"
David looked at him. "I saw how you came to visit me before, and even though I turned you away, you didn't get mad. You were sincere, so I gave you this advice. You only live once. Is it worth risking your life for a woman? With your status and power, finding someone better than her should be a breeze, right?"
Raymond used to think the same way.
Women were just a decoration in life. Career and power, revenge, those were his true pursuits.
But now, Raymond didn't think that way anymore.
There were plenty of women who wanted to be his wife. Finding someone younger and prettier than Margaret wasn't hard. But in this life, he only loved Margaret.
He was set on Margaret.
"Margaret means everything to me. David, please do your best. I'll make sure you're well compensated. As for my safety," Raymond paused, then spoke firmly, "you don't need to worry about it. As long as Margaret's surgery is successful, it would be my honor to die on your operating table. Of course, I'll prepare a contract in advance, stating that any accidents during the surgery are not your responsibility."
David looked at Raymond and then suddenly smiled, as if he saw a reflection of his younger self. "I didn't expect Mr. Howard to be such a romantic."
"Not really. I've made a lot of mistakes in the past. Now, I just want to turn back before it's too late and do everything I can to make it up to the one I love."
"The surgery is scheduled for the day after tomorrow afternoon. Her body can't wait any longer. It needs to be done as soon as possible," David said seriously.
Raymond nodded. "Alright."
"Whatever she wants to eat, drink, or any wishes she has, try to fulfill them. The same goes for you. These might be your last days together," David said solemnly.
Raymond agreed.
He personally escorted David out of the consultation room.
Then he walked him downstairs.
A long luxury car was parked at the entrance. The driver, seeing David coming down, quickly straightened up and opened the car door for him.
After exchanging pleasantries with Raymond, David got into the car and asked the driver, "Where's Daniel?"
"Mr. Taylor hasn't come out yet. Wasn't he with you?" The driver looked confused.
David guessed that Daniel was still in Margaret's room. That idiot, what was he doing hanging around someone else's wife?
"Call Daniel and tell him to come down and head back to the hotel."
Raymond took the elevator to Margaret's room.
Inside Margaret's room.
She saw Daniel come in with her, but she didn't think much of it because she had seen him during the consultation, standing in front of David.
She figured he was familiar with David.
After the nurse gave Margaret an injection, she left the room and closed the door.
"Don't worry, the surgery will definitely be successful," Daniel comforted her gently.
Margaret looked at him with unfamiliar eyes. "Thank you."
Then she said nothing more.
"Margaret, don't you recognize me?" Daniel had felt something was off during the consultation. The way she looked at him was like he was a stranger.
He had thought it was because Raymond was there, and she was avoiding him on purpose. But now, even in private, she was the same.
Margaret looked at him uneasily. "I can't remember much from before. Do we know each other?"
Daniel realized that Margaret had lost her memory, which explained why she had accepted the consultation.
He had wondered how a couple with such a bad relationship could suddenly reconcile.
Now he knew the reason.
"We know each other. We're friends," Daniel explained.
Margaret didn't doubt him when he said they were friends. He didn't give off a bad vibe.
"What's your name?"
"Daniel."
Years ago, when they first met, she had asked him the same question, and he had given the same answer.
But she never remembered his name.
In a crowd, he was so inconspicuous. Back then, he was just an illegitimate child, shy and introverted. He didn't dare to approach her.
He just watched her from afar, paying attention to her.
Now he was the president of The Taylor Group, but she had nothing to do with him anymore.
Margaret repeated his name. "Nice name. I'll remember it."
"Margaret, are you happy now?" Daniel looked at her with a complex expression.
His eyes were filled with sympathy, pain, and worry.
He felt sorry that she had lost her memory. But those memories were too painful for her, so maybe it was better that she forgot.
So he wanted to know if she was happy now.
Margaret didn't understand why he asked, but she nodded.
Even though she had lost her memory, she still had a husband who loved her. She hadn't lost hope for the future. Maybe a miracle would happen.
So she wasn't that pessimistic.
She didn't understand why Daniel looked at her with such sadness. She thought he was worried about her illness, so she started to comfort him. "It's okay, Daniel. Even though I have cancer, David didn't say it was hopeless. There's still a forty percent chance. I believe God won't be so cruel to me. I'm sure the surgery will be successful. Don't worry."
Daniel hadn't seen such an optimistic Margaret in a long time. Before, when he tried to persuade her to get treatment, she was always so resigned, like she had given up on life.
"Margaret."
"Yes?"
"I hope you come through this safely." Daniel had a thousand things to say, but she had already forgotten him. What else could he say? All he could do was wish her happiness.
Eternal happiness. He hoped Raymond was truly good to her this time.
He had thought that with Raymond stepping aside, he might have a chance with Margaret.
But it didn't matter. As long as she was happy, healthy, and safe, he could continue to watch her from afar, without getting close, without thinking too much, without being greedy, without forcing anything.
Margaret smiled. "You too. Thank you for your blessings."
The door to the room opened.
Raymond saw Daniel by Margaret's bed and his expression changed slightly. "Mr. Taylor? What are you doing here?"
Daniel glanced at Margaret on the bed, then turned to Raymond with a smile. "Just visiting an old friend. Is that not allowed?"
Raymond knew Daniel still had feelings for Margaret and was worried he might say something to make her suspicious about the past.
"Margaret's not fully recovered yet. It's not suitable for her to have visitors for too long. David is waiting for you downstairs," Raymond said, clearly indicating it was time for Daniel to leave.
At that moment, Daniel received a call from David. He held his phone and smiled. "Alright, Mr. Jones, I'm coming down."
Before leaving, Daniel gave Raymond a deep look.
Raymond escorted him out of the room, and they waited for the elevator together.
"Mr. Howard, you don't need to see me off. I'm just an illegitimate child, not worth the trouble," Daniel said with a mocking smile.
