Chapter 533 Raymond, I'm Pregnant

After lunch, Margaret insisted on heading to the office because she had an important meeting to attend.

Raymond couldn't argue with her, so he waited downstairs while she got ready. He smoked a cigarette and then pulled the car up to the front door, waiting for her to come down.

About half an hour later, he saw Margaret through the car window. She was wearing a professional suit, high heels, and carrying a Hermès bag. The suit was simple yet elegant, highlighting her sharp demeanor.

Her hair was tied up in a bun, and she wore a single earring, the epitome of a strong, independent woman.

But Raymond knew that deep down, she was still as soft-hearted as ever.

He got out of the car, walked over to the passenger side, and opened the door for her.

Margaret adjusted her suit and got in.

Raymond returned to the driver's seat.

As she fastened her seatbelt, she said, "You don't have to wait for me. I can drive myself."

Raymond felt a pang of sadness. He still couldn't bridge the gap between them. Even after she calmed down, she kept her distance.

"It's on the way."

"The Howard Group and The Hughes Group are on the way?" She smirked.

He corrected himself, "If I care enough, anywhere can be on the way."

Margaret didn't want him to drop her off at The Hughes Group, but he insisted.

It was just after lunch, the start of the workday.

A luxury car parked at the entrance was quite eye-catching.

Margaret got out of the car, and a few female colleagues saw her.

They also noticed Raymond and greeted him, "Mr. Howard, are you here to discuss a collaboration with The Hughes Group?"

Raymond, sitting in the driver's seat and smoking, casually replied, "Just dropping my girlfriend off at work."

"Who's your girlfriend?" Margaret turned and glared at him.

He smiled and corrected himself, "I'm pursuing Ms. Hughes."

Thanks to the gossiping colleagues, the entire Hughes Group soon heard that Raymond and Margaret might be rekindling their old flame and were possibly getting remarried.

Everywhere Margaret went, people congratulated her.

She knew Raymond did it on purpose.

After a two-hour meeting, Margaret felt nauseous. She rushed to the restroom, turned on the faucet, and vomited uncontrollably.

Nothing came out except bile.

"Ms. Hughes, are you pregnant?" a colleague washing her hands asked suspiciously.

Margaret was stunned. "Pregnant?"

"Yes, when I was pregnant, I vomited everything I ate. Ms. Hughes, is your period regular?"

Margaret's mind went blank.

Since that drunken night with Raymond, she hadn't used protection.

Her period was two weeks late.

Could it be?

"Ms. Hughes, if your period is irregular, it might be morning sickness. You should check."

Margaret couldn't believe she might be pregnant.

She went to the pharmacy downstairs and bought a pregnancy test.

It was positive.

Still in disbelief, she drove to the hospital for a check-up.

Rufus, the doctor, looked at her report and excitedly told her, "Ms. Hughes, you're really pregnant! It's incredible. Given your history of miscarriages, it seemed impossible, but here you are. Congratulations, Ms. Hughes, congratulations."

Margaret felt no joy.

She was confused and at a loss.

She and Raymond were divorced, and a one-night stand resulted in a child?

Would the child be an illegitimate one, hidden from the world?

Their relationship was uncertain, and this child came at the worst time.

"I don't plan to keep it," Margaret said.

Rufus replied seriously, "Ms. Hughes, I suggest you reconsider. Your body is too weak. If you lose this child, you might never conceive again. A child can be a wonderful companion. Why not? I think Mr. Howard would be thrilled. He's always dreamed of having a child with you."

On the way back, Margaret's mind was in turmoil.

On the street, she saw a single mother holding her little girl's hand as they crossed the road. The girl wore a princess dress and a cute backpack, with a hair clip in her hair.

The girl looked up at her mother and sweetly said, "Mommy, I love you."

Margaret's heart melted.

She cradled her belly. Would her child be as adorable as that little girl, calling her Mommy sweetly?

She was all alone in this world.

Having a child would be nice, a companion.

She wasn't short on money, but she lacked companionship.

She would give her baby all her love and material wealth.

Margaret thought, 'My baby deserves happiness.'

She didn't need her child to be successful or wealthy. As long as her baby was healthy and safe, she would be content.

Besides, she had already earned enough money for her child's lifetime.

She decided she needed to tell Raymond about the pregnancy.

So she called him and asked him to come to The Hughes Manor after work.

The early summer night came quickly.

As darkness fell, a car drove through her ornate iron gates.

The sound of footsteps on the stairs grew closer.

Margaret curled up on the couch.

Clutching her water glass, she felt as anxious as when she was diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer.

Would Raymond be willing to raise this child with her?

Could she trust him again?

A child should grow up in a complete family, with both parents' love.

Only then would they develop a healthy personality.

"What do you want to eat? I'll cook for you," Raymond said, standing in front of her, holding her head gently against his pants.

He was so gentlemanly, so gentle.

She couldn't help but fall for him.

If he was this good to her, he would be even better to the baby, she thought.

"What are you thinking about?" Raymond pushed her back gently and knelt down to look her in the eye.

The room was dark.

Only a small nightlight on her side cast a soft glow, making her look stunning.

"Raymond, I have something to tell you."

"Let's talk after dinner. I'm a bit hungry," Raymond said, holding her hand with his watch-clad hand.

Her palm was sweaty.

But Margaret wanted to say it now, "I'm pregnant."
