Chapter 579 Just a Plaything, Gone is Gone

"Daniel, are you sure Della's family is really that poor? Raymond mentioned he thinks he's seen her somewhere before, but he can't remember where," Margaret said casually.

Daniel was convinced of Della's unfortunate background.

In his memory, she never wore nice clothes or cared much about her appearance. If she wasn't struggling financially, why would she work part-time as a maid at his neighbor's house?

He wasn't entirely sure about Della's family situation, so he didn't want to say too much and risk Margaret looking down on Della. So he replied vaguely, "Whether her family is well-off or not doesn't change the fact that I want to marry her."

"Do you really like her?"

"When she suddenly disappeared from my life, it hit me how much she meant to me. I felt like a part of me was gone. I couldn't eat, couldn't sleep, and when I did sleep, all I could dream about were the memories we shared. I regret not appreciating her while she was still here," Daniel said with a bitter smile. "I don't know when it started, but I got used to her being around, cooking for me, taking care of me. Raymond was right; I'm an idiot. I lecture others but mess up my own life. People who play with others' feelings will eventually get played themselves."

"What happened between you two?" Margaret asked, frowning.

Daniel replied, "We had a fight. I was drunk and said things without thinking. She fell down the stairs and lost the baby. She can never have children again. Margaret, I feel so guilty. I want to make it up to her, for everything."

"So you want to marry her out of guilt?"

"She used to want to marry me. But this time, she left for good. She didn't even tell me when she was discharged from the hospital and blocked all my contacts," Daniel murmured.

Margaret handed him her phone. "Then use my phone to contact her. Tell her how you really feel. Make it clear that you want to marry her because you love her and can't live without her, not out of guilt. Daniel, this is important. If I were her, I wouldn't want a marriage based on guilt either. She loves you, so she probably hasn't moved on yet. No wonder she hasn't seen you in so long; you really messed up this time."

Encouraged by Margaret, Daniel took the phone. He dialed the number he knew by heart, feeling extremely nervous. Would she answer? Had she forgiven him?

The phone rang, but then a recorded message played. "The number you have dialed is no longer in service. Please check the number and try again."

Daniel felt his hope extinguish. The number was disconnected. She really wanted to cut ties with him.

He handed the phone back to Margaret. "She doesn't want to see me. She must hate me."

"Daniel, relationships aren't about right or wrong. Take care of yourself first. When things cool down, try contacting her again. If you still can't reach her, go find her."

"Go find her?" Daniel repeated.

Margaret nodded, "Yes, if she doesn't come to you, you go to her. It's simple. Clear things up and don't leave any regrets. You have her address, right?"

Daniel suddenly remembered their first meeting at The Taylor Group when he picked up her resume from the floor. Maybe the address was on it.

He wasn't sure.

"Daniel, you don't even know your girlfriend's address? That's pretty careless. Put some effort into it," Margaret sighed. "Use the determination you had when you had a crush on me. Girls are easy to win over if they love you. Show her you're sincere, and she'll come back."

Just then, Felicity woke up, probably hungry for her bottle. Margaret left the room with Felicity.

Daniel called Walter, who was swamped with work at The Taylor Group due to Daniel's accident.

When Walter answered, Daniel asked him to find Della's resume to see if it had her address.

Understanding the urgency, Walter dropped everything to check the HR files.

A few minutes later, Daniel heard Walter's excited voice over the phone. "Mr. Taylor, I found Ms. Vaughn's address. I'll send you a photo."

After hanging up, Daniel quickly received a WhatsApp message from Walter.

He opened it: [Pine Ridge, Strollway District, Silverwood]

Margaret said her family was well-off, but this address didn't seem to reflect that.

Shaking his head, he thought, 'Della is so beautiful; she must be the prettiest woman in Pine Ridge.'

Determined to see her soon, Daniel took his medication and focused on recovering.

He counted the days, each one feeling unbearably long.

Before he could be discharged, Cade visited. They rarely saw each other, only on holidays.

Daniel couldn't quite remember their last meeting but thought it was around Christmas. Compared to that time, Cade looked older.

Despite his well-maintained appearance, the fine lines around his eyes were noticeable.

Cade, dressed in a crisp suit with perfectly styled hair, walked in with a stern expression, followed by his assistant.

Cade glanced coldly at Daniel in the hospital bed. "You're usually so careful. How did you get into a car accident? What were you thinking? Your brother died in a car accident, didn't you know that?"

Every time they met, Cade liked to scold him. Daniel replied calmly, "He wasn't my brother. My mom only had me. Are you losing it?"

"I think you're the one who's lost your mind over a woman! You're neglecting the bigger picture. She's just a plaything. If she's gone, so what? Once you have a career and inherit my legacy, you can have any woman you want. Your mother raised you to be short-sighted. If my son hadn't died, you wouldn't be here to listen to my lectures," Cade reprimanded.

Daniel didn't want to argue. His health couldn't handle it.

"If you're here to argue, I don't have time. Close the door on your way out."

"You!" Cade was so angry he staggered. His assistant quickly supported him and tried to calm him down, then turned to Daniel. "Mr. Daniel Taylor, Mr. Cade Taylor is worried about you. He hasn't slept well since your accident. Please try to understand him."
