Chapter 99 Hope You Are Safe

Percy didn't wanna spill the beans at first. But after her relentless questioning, her low growls, and when she got down on her knees begging him, he finally caved.

He helped her up, shaking and crying. "It was all me, I did everything. Marlon's got nothing to do with it.

"Raymond hasn't sued me 'cause I destroyed all the evidence back then. He can't touch Marlon. Don't worry, I won't let you get dragged into this. Even if I gotta die, I'll take the fall. I just want you to stay safe and happy, don't get mixed up in this."

Margaret thought about it, and the tears just wouldn't stop.

Raymond's voice, full of hate and all raspy, echoed in her head. "Over a decade ago, my dad ran a small restaurant. It was tiny, but we were happy. One snowy night, just like tonight, he went out for supplies and got hit by a car.

"When we found him, he was covered in blood. The doc said his legs were busted, his liver was messed up, so he didn't have much time left. The driver took off, but my dad said his name was Marlon.

"We had to shut down the restaurant and took my dad back to Ironwood Lane. We tried to find Marlon but came up empty."

"Half a month later, on a stormy night, I was hiding under the bed, 'cause I was playing hide and seek with my mom. Suddenly, a guy in black broke in and killed her right in front of me. She shook her head at me, telling me to stay quiet. The guy in black was Marlon's driver, Percy, the man you just met. He killed my mom and torched our house. My dad pushed me out to save me, but he got burned alive.

"Margaret, do you know what my family looked like after the fire? My dad's body was gone, and my mom was just half a skeleton."

"I've survived all these years fueled by my hatred for revenge. Otherwise, I wouldn't be here."

"I once wondered if I had misunderstood Marlon. But the fact is, the guy in black that night was him."

"Percy is super loyal to Marlon. Even after I tortured him for a year, he wouldn't give Marlon up!"

"Luckily, Marlon dodged legal trouble but ended up in a coma from a car accident! The driver who hit him also took off. It was ironic that how the suffering my dad went through, Marlon experienced it all."

Raymond gritted his teeth, driving like a maniac, his eyes bloodshot, tears streaming down. "He deserved it!"

"Shut up! Shut up!" Margaret covered her ears, shaking her head, screaming.

She couldn't accept it, couldn't accept that the kind Marlon, who had always been a good person in her eyes, was her idol.

She didn't wanna hear it, not a single word.

"It's all fake, it's all fake. Percy was bought by you, everything he said is fake!" Margaret covered her ears, her body trembling like a leaf.

With a screech, the car suddenly stopped on a deserted road.

Raymond turned, pried her hands off her ears, and with a devilish, bloodthirsty smile, said, "It's all true. Marlon is a hypocritical bastard! Marlon is a beast! He deserves to be lying in a hospital bed now, and your Hughes family deserves it too!"

"Shut up!"

Margaret, fuming, tried to cover her ears again. She didn't wanna hear it, not a single word.

But Raymond's venomous curses, like snakes, slithered into her ears, into her heart. "My dad was a good man! He never did anything wrong! But your dad sent people to burn him alive! If he's not a beast, what is he? If he's not a beast, what is he!

"Margaret, from the moment I saw you, I wanted to strangle you. But I had to pretend to love you, kiss you, share a bed with you! Every night, I dreamed of my family's tragic deaths! My mom cursed me for not avenging them.

"I've waited a whole year for this! Our game has just begun! Margaret, you, Marlon, and your whole family are gonna die horribly!"

Raymond's words made Margaret's throat ache, and she couldn't stop wailing.

"Idiot, you idiot! Now you know how much I want you and your whole family dead? And you still think I would help you clean up after the Hughes family? Help take care of your parents? Dream on!"

"Marlon, I won't let him go! Nancy loves him so much, will she go crazy immediately after he dies? If she goes crazy, she can go straight to the asylum! It should be interesting! You wanna die? Okay, fine, you both die, leaving Nancy alone, the person Marlon cares about the most, dead or crazy! Interesting! So interesting!"

Raymond leaned close to Margaret's ear, laughing deeply.

Margaret, enraged, broke free and raised her hand to hit him. "Shut up! You heartless beast, shut up! He's your elder, no matter what he did wrong, he married me to you! You curse me, and you curse my father too?"

"Margaret, are you angry now? The things that will really make you angry haven't even started yet. Save your tears for later. Listen up, I'll double my revenge on you, torture you, make you wish you were dead!"

He suddenly grabbed her arm and twisted it hard, causing excruciating pain. With a crack, her left arm dislocated. Margaret cried out helplessly.

Annoyed by her cries, Raymond moved closer, pinning her down.

"Get off me! Don't touch me!" Margaret roared.

With a click, the car door opened.

Her whole body fell backward, rolling out of the passenger seat.

She landed on a pile of glass shards, which pierced her palm. Blood quickly covered her hand.

She looked up and saw Raymond sitting in the driver's seat, curling his lips in disdain. "Who do you think you are? Even if you were naked, I wouldn't touch you."

So he hated her that much, wouldn't touch her even if she were naked. These years must have been hard for him, acting so convincingly.

The car door closed, and the black car sped away.

The lonely streetlight above her cast a warm glow, but it felt like it was filled with frost.

She wanted to call for a ride. But when she felt her pockets, they were empty.

It was over; she had been so focused on arguing that she left her phone in the passenger seat with Raymond.
