Chapter 565 I Can't Hold On Anymore
Daniel hurried down the stairs after her.
Lyric had hit her head on the entryway, and her skin was scraped, with bright red blood streaming down her forehead.
For a few seconds, everything went black. Lyric was terrified, and the pain in her stomach intensified, as if a sharp knife was twisting inside her.
It hurt so much.
Her vision slowly cleared, like a dense fog lifting.
She wiped her forehead with her hand, smearing blood everywhere.
Her legs felt wet. She looked down and saw blood spreading in layers, like waves crashing on the shore, or a sea of blooming roses at The Taylor Villa.
"Margaret." Daniel ran to her side and held her in his arms.
Margaret was the last name Lyric wanted to hear.
She forgot to be angry, forgot to push him away. Her blood-stained fingers clutched his hand tightly as she cried and pleaded, "Take me to the hospital... hurry, take me to the hospital..."
'The baby, the baby couldn't be in danger.' She thought.
Daniel sobered up a bit, realizing the seriousness of the situation. He quickly scooped Lyric up, holding her blood-streaked legs, and rushed outside.
The butler, hearing the commotion, sprang into action. Seeing Lyric's condition, he quickly arranged for a driver to take them to the hospital.
In the car, Lyric's face was pale from the pain.
Blood soaked the leather seat. She bit her lip and cried, "Drive faster. I can't hold on much longer."
Before they reached the hospital, Lyric passed out again.
Daniel was panicking. She looked so serious, he hadn't expected such a big incident today.
At the hospital, the doctor checked her over and glared at Daniel. "How could you take care of her like this?"
"She—" Daniel stammered, wanting to say she wasn't his wife.
The doctor continued to scold, "No matter what, she's pregnant."
"Pregnant?" He was stunned.
She was pregnant?
"Don't tell me you didn't know. Your wife is pregnant, and she didn't tell you? You're a sad excuse for a husband." The doctor examined Lyric's wounds with a complex expression. "The patient has lost a lot of blood. The baby might not make it. We need to get her into surgery immediately."
Before Daniel could react, Lyric was wheeled into the emergency room.
He slumped against the cold wall. So, the surprise she mentioned was that she was pregnant. What was the other surprise?
Daniel was nervous, his hands shaking as he pulled out a pack of cigarettes. He put one in his mouth and tried to light it, but his hands were too unsteady.
He broke the cigarette in his palm and threw it in the trash.
She was pregnant. Why didn't she tell him?
As the father, he deserved to be informed.
Daniel didn't know why, but his heart was racing, and he couldn't calm down.
His eyelids felt heavy, as if something bad was about to happen.
The butler stood beside him, trying to comfort him. "Mr. Taylor, don't worry. Ms. Vaughn's baby will be fine. Congratulations, Mr. Taylor, you're going to be a father."
Daniel pressed his lips together, unsure how to respond.
"Mr. Taylor, why don't you go home and rest? You've been drinking, and you'll have a headache tomorrow if you don't rest."
"No need. I'll stay here." Daniel wasn't going anywhere until Lyric came out of the emergency room.
He sat on the cold bench, the reality sinking in that he was going to be a father.
He was going to have his own child.
His mind was a mess, unable to tell if he was happy or not. It was complicated. What would their child look like?
Would the baby look more like him or Della?
Was he betraying Margaret?
He had a child with another woman.
Margaret couldn't sleep and was walking around with Raymond when she saw a man sitting on a bench, looking dejected.
She recognized him immediately. Raymond suggested she go back to rest, but she wanted to say hello. She walked over and sat in front of him. "Daniel, why are you at the hospital so late? Did something happen?"
Daniel lifted his head and saw Margaret in her hospital gown, with Raymond standing beside her.
Before he could speak, the butler smiled and said, "Mrs. Howard, Mr. Taylor is going to be a father. There was an accident, and Ms. Vaughn is in the emergency room. He is worried and waiting here."
Daniel shot the butler a cold look, but the butler continued, "Mrs. Howard, you'll congratulate Mr. Taylor, right?"
"Enough! You're talking too much!" Daniel turned to the butler and said coldly.
Margaret was momentarily stunned, then congratulated him. "Della is pregnant? That's wonderful news. When did you find out?"
"I just found out today," Daniel replied, his expression unreadable.
Margaret said, "Daniel, now that Della is pregnant, you need to take good care of her. Don't be cold to her. Pregnant women are sensitive. Don't take it lightly. Talk things out, don't give her the silent treatment, okay? Don't mistreat her."
She didn't see any problem with it. "But you have a baby now. You should give the baby a home. Daniel, I'm just reminding you, Della is actually a good person. I've only met her once, but she was very polite. And I can tell she really likes you."
She added, "Maybe her family background is different from yours. But you're so capable, you wouldn't want to marry just for an alliance, right? Marrying someone who likes you and whom you like is much better. Nowadays, girls have their pride. If she came to me to plead for you, it means she genuinely likes you. You should bring her out openly, let us get to know her. Don't hide her away. If I were her, I'd be upset too. It's the minimum respect in a relationship."
"Margaret, do you really want me to marry her?" Daniel looked at her.
She thought for a moment and said, "I'm just suggesting. It's your decision. This is your life, you have to make your own choices. Della is a good person, and you're so reserved. She has a warm and cheerful presence, always bringing positivity and kindness. If this baby is a boy, maybe we can even arrange a marriage between our children."
"Margaret, it's late. You should go back to rest," Raymond said considerately.
Margaret said goodbye to Daniel and got up from the bench, with Raymond supporting her. Daniel wanted to see them off, but Raymond said, "You should stay here and watch over the person you need to. Della is still inside. If you leave, what will she think? She'll be upset. Being good to your girlfriend isn't a bad thing. Don't be like me."
