Chapter 561 Are You Worth Disturbing Her?
At first, Lyric was really mad, but after a while, her anger faded, and she started to regret slapping Daniel. She sent him a message on WhatsApp to apologize.
There was no response.
It had been so hard to get together, and now they were falling apart over something so trivial. She wasn't ready to let it go.
But Daniel completely ignored her. She couldn't understand why he was being so stubborn, even more difficult to appease than she was.
A friend messaged her, saying Margaret was in the hospital giving birth and hadn't come out yet. Maybe if Margaret spoke to him, Daniel would listen.
Hoping for the best, Lyric bought some baby clothes. Since she didn't know the child's gender, she bought one of each.
She went to see Margaret.
Margaret was in a hospital gown, looking weak after giving birth. Seeing Lyric dressed up, both Raymond and Lyric were momentarily stunned but quickly recovered and invited her to sit.
Raymond washed some fruit and placed it in front of Lyric.
Lyric adored Margaret's newborn daughter, who was soft and adorable. The baby even smiled at her.
"She really likes you, Ms. Vaughn," Margaret said with a smile.
Lyric smiled back, "I like her too."
"You should think about having a baby with Daniel. With his height and your grace, your child would be amazing," Margaret suggested.
Lyric's face clouded over as she explained why she had come. She hoped Margaret could talk to Daniel and end the silent treatment.
Margaret explained, "You misunderstood him. He didn't intentionally miss your dinner. It's my fault. I didn't know he was in a relationship. I went into labor suddenly and had no one else to call, so I called him. He stayed with me for a whole day and night. He only left when my husband returned."
"You two need to understand each other. Daniel had a tough childhood, and it's not easy for him to be where he is now. You should be more considerate of him," Margaret said, seeing Daniel as family and the best.
Daniel didn't mind her background, so she should be more understanding of him, not distrustful and petty.
Lyric could tell Margaret was siding with Daniel, but she didn't mind. She just wanted to make up.
After a while, Lyric left.
Raymond was peeling an apple for Margaret. He glanced at her and said, "Della seems very insecure. I bet Daniel is only nice to you and not to others."
"Maybe it's because her family situation isn't great, and she's sensitive and insecure?" Margaret didn't like his comment.
Handing her the peeled apple, Raymond said, "This Della looks familiar. I might have seen her somewhere, but I can't remember where."
Margaret ate the apple and picked up her phone to call Daniel, telling him about Lyric's visit and her plea for help.
There was silence on the other end.
"Daniel, Della is really nice. Be good to her. I honestly didn't know you were dating. If I had known someone was waiting for you at home, I wouldn't have bothered you. I called the babysitter too late. This is my fault for not thinking it through. Can you apologize to her for me? I'll treat you both to dinner to make up for it," Margaret said apologetically.
Daniel's voice was hoarse when he finally spoke, "She reached out to you because I didn't think it through."
"It's no big deal. We were bound to meet eventually. Daniel, I'm happy you have someone who cares for you. I'm looking forward to your wedding."
"Are you really that happy?"
"Of course, I'm happy you have someone to take care of you. I won't ask you for help anymore, or Della might get jealous. Be good to her. Girls need to be pampered. Bring her out to meet us, have meals together, and get to know each other better."
Margaret hung up the phone and heard Raymond's cold laugh, "Didn't you notice Della dresses a bit like you?"
"He doesn't want to bring her out. He's using Della as a substitute. Does she know? This isn't good. Daniel is really something," Raymond said. "Do you think if we ever broke up, Daniel would dump Della?"
"Stop talking nonsense, okay?" Margaret threw a pillow at him.
The pillow fell at his feet. He picked it up, his eyes still cold, "I never believed in pure friendship between men and women. Daniel hasn't given up on you. Otherwise, he wouldn't need a substitute."
"Raymond!"
"But I won't give him a chance to interfere and ruin our relationship. Margaret, trust me. Those two will have a big fight eventually. Don't get involved in Daniel's business then."
"You think that's none of my business?"
"The more you get involved, the harder it will be to explain your relationship with Daniel. You can't deny he's had a crush on you for ten years, right? If Della finds out later, what will you do? You did nothing wrong, but Daniel liking you is the biggest mistake."
Raymond placed the pillow at the corner of the bed, "Do you think everyone is as forgiving as I am? If he and Della end up together, won't it be awkward for you to help Daniel? Let's not help either of them. This drama is something I want to see. I'm curious if Della will fight with Daniel when she finds out she's a substitute."
Lyric had just returned to Daniel's apartment and was changing her shoes when her phone rang.
It was Daniel. She felt a bit excited. Did Margaret help so quickly?
Family really did have a way with words.
She eagerly answered the call, trying to hide her happiness. She didn't want to forgive him too quickly, fearing he wouldn't appreciate it.
"Who told you to go to Margaret?"
"Ms. Vaughn, what are you up to? I didn't realize you were so scheming. Just because I didn't have dinner with you, you had to go to Margaret?"
Daniel's questioning voice was overwhelming.
When he heard Margaret advising him to be good to Lyric, he felt frustrated.
Lyric had taken away his chance to be close to Margaret.
Lyric's slender fingers gripped the phone tightly, "Are you mad? I just asked her to help explain. What did I do wrong?"
"What did you do wrong?" Daniel sneered, "Who told you to bother her? Who do you think you are to disturb her?"
"Why can't I bother her? We're going to be married. And isn't 'bother' the wrong word? What did she say to make you so angry?" Lyric was confused. She didn't know what she had done wrong.
