Chapter 507 Don't Meet Again in the Next Life
Her gaze was so cold and indifferent. Just yesterday, her eyes had been filled with such warmth and passion. Now, they were filled with unfamiliarity and hatred.
He had expected this, but his heart still clenched uncontrollably.
So this was what it felt like to be looked at by the one you loved with such disdain.
Raymond remembered how last night, she had stepped on broken glass, and he glanced at her black leather shoes. "You just got hurt, and you're wearing such tight shoes? Aren't you worried about an infection?"
Before she regained her memories, Margaret would have been delighted to hear his concern.
Now, it only made her feel nauseous.
She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and sneered, "You should worry about yourself, Mr. Howard. We're divorced. You have no right to care about me anymore."
The team of lawyers in the room exchanged awkward glances, the atmosphere unbearably tense.
Raymond's hand, which was receiving an IV, clenched the white bed sheets tightly.
Margaret couldn't be bothered to argue with him and directly brought up the transfer agreement for The Hughes Group.
With just a look from Margaret, the lawyer handed her several documents.
The papers included not only the transfer of The Hughes Group but also all his money, properties, and savings, which were to be transferred to her.
Margaret didn't hesitate. She didn't feel she owed him anything; she was simply reclaiming what belonged to The Hughes Family.
After carefully reviewing the terms to ensure there were no hidden traps, she signed her name.
The lawyer checked the agreement and then smiled at Margaret. "Ms. Hughes, the process is complete. From now on, you are the president of The Hughes Group."
"As for the property title changes, I will personally deliver them to you once they're finalized."
Raymond glanced at Alvin, who handed a set of keys to Margaret. "Ms. Hughes, these are the keys to The Hughes Manor. Please take them."
He also handed her several bank cards. "These are Mr. Howard's bank cards. They are now yours, with no passwords. You can use them freely, with no limit."
The lawyer and Alvin finished their business and left the room, giving Margaret and Raymond some privacy.
Margaret was about to leave when she heard a bitter laugh behind her. "Do you hate me so much that you won't even say a word to me?"
She paused, her grip on her handbag tightening. She had intended to walk away, but some things needed to be said clearly, once and for all.
Turning slowly, Margaret looked at him with a complex expression. He lay on the hospital bed.
This was the first time Margaret had seriously looked at him since entering the room.
Raymond was wearing a loose hospital gown, and a black knit cap covered his head. The weather was warming up, yet he still wore the cap.
In front of her, he removed the cap.
His head was bald, devoid of hair.
His face had thinned considerably, and he looked utterly drained.
His condition had worsened.
Margaret felt a pang of surprise and pity, but thoughts of her father's death, her mother's funeral, and the torment she had endured at his hands hardened her heart once more.
"My liver, is it doing well in your body? If you feel unwell, see a doctor immediately. Work is important, but don't neglect your health. I'm a prime example." Raymond spoke with concern.
She couldn't understand him. He was the one who had restored her memories, the one who had said he was no longer interested in her, and now he was saying all these strange words.
He continued to ramble, and she grew irritated, cutting him off. "Raymond, are you crazy? I told you, we have nothing to do with each other anymore. You have no right to care about me."
"You're right; I am crazy." Raymond gave a dazed smile.
This conversation reminded him of when she had tried to tell him about her terminal illness, and he had impatiently asked if she was sick.
It was like a knife stabbing into his most vulnerable spot.
Raymond's eyes reddened. "I know you hate me, but I still want to tell you to take care of yourself."
Even in his absence, he wanted her to live well and be strong.
"My only wish now is for you to die soon. Raymond, if there's a next life, don't meet me again. Go ruin someone else's life."
Margaret spat out her harsh words and left with a cold expression.
She didn't want to see him in the next life. That was how much she hated him.
Raymond gave a bitter laugh, his eyes instantly reddening.
But this was the outcome he wanted, to push her away, wasn't it?
Knowing Margaret as he did, she probably wouldn't visit him again. This was likely their last meeting.
The next time they met would probably be at his funeral.
Margaret wouldn't attend. She might even celebrate with fireworks for days, rejoicing that she was finally free of his threat.
Just like the day Marlon died, with fireworks lighting up the sky.
Raymond's throat tightened painfully. No, he wanted to see her one last time.
For the last time in his life.
He pulled out the IV needle from his hand, hurriedly put on his hat and left the room.
Alvin, returning with water, saw him leaving and quickly followed with the water jug.
Raymond walked quickly, afraid that if he delayed, Margaret would be gone.
He reached the hospital entrance.
The sun was bright and dazzling today, but it stung his eyes.
He scanned the crowd, searching for her familiar figure.
Finally, he spotted her across the street, getting into a Maserati.
Daniel was holding the passenger door open for her.
Margaret smiled at Daniel as she got in.
He even helped her with the seatbelt, looking very gentle.
Raymond blinked his dry eyes. So, Daniel had brought her to the hospital.
Alvin caught up, seeing this scene, and felt indignant for him. "Mr. Howard, why don't you go after Mrs. Howard and tell her the truth about your condition?"
"What good would that do? She's not a doctor; she can't cure me." Raymond stared at the two in the car. They hadn't noticed him.
"But you're giving Daniel a chance. Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard loves you."
"That was before she regained her memories. Now she remembers everything. There's no going back." Raymond sighed.
"So you're just going to watch Daniel and Mrs. Howard—" Alvin didn't know how to finish.
Raymond smiled bitterly, tears welling up and falling. "As long as she's happy, it doesn't matter if I'm with her or not. Daniel is a good man; he'll treat her well. Tomorrow, go to The Hughes Group and help Margaret secure her position as president. After I die, you must remain loyal to her. Remember, don't go against Daniel. Find ways to help them build their relationship."
