Chapter 556 She Can Smile So Happily in Such a Shady Relationship

Lyric didn't quite grasp the deeper meaning behind his words. Her fingers stiffened as she buttoned her pajamas. Was he playing the same trick again?

Her heart felt like it was being pricked by needles, a dense, overwhelming sadness. She didn't know how she should react if he truly regretted it.

The rain outside had been falling all night, tapping on the leaves, drip-drip-drip, like it was knocking on the door to her heart.

Pretending nothing was wrong, she continued buttoning her pajamas and looked up at him with a smile. "Isn't our relationship good as it is? Daniel, having one more person to take care of you, to love you, and eventually, you'll have kids. Being alone is too lonely, isn't it?"

This response made Daniel, who was sitting on the edge of the bed, narrow his eyes instantly. "Looks like you've wanted this kind of relationship for a while."

Quitting her job was just a way to be pampered by him.

"Yeah, I've wanted this for a long time." She smiled brightly.

She could smile so happily in such a shady relationship.

If it were Margaret, she definitely wouldn't agree. They might look alike, but their characters were worlds apart.

A wave of melancholy washed over him.

"Mr. Taylor, you won't regret this, right?" she teased.

Daniel asked her to help him get dressed. She happily got up, picked up a crisp white shirt, and put it on him, then started buttoning it.

She was very serious about it.

But he felt like she was treating this as a career, a girl from a poor background taking shortcuts, nothing surprising.

She tried to tie his tie but couldn't get it right. She had never tied a tie for anyone before, and the more she tried, the worse it got. He got a bit annoyed, took the tie from her hands, and expertly tied it in front of the mirror. "If you don't know how, learn properly. Matching clothes and tying ties are part of your job."

Lyric felt a bit uncomfortable with his coldness, but she thought about how they had just started dating and how small arguments could hurt their relationship. So, she decided to go along with his words. "I learn things quickly," she said.

"I can see that." He gave her a meaningful look, then placed a set of keys on the table. "I'll have Walter help you move."

"I'm fine living here."

"If you're with me, you follow my arrangements."

"But I have to go to work today—"

"You don't need to go to The Taylor Group anymore. Since you've already resigned, I'll approve it. Move in and wait for me at home." As he was leaving, Daniel handed her a black card. "Take this. There's no limit. Buy whatever you like."

Lyric naturally refused. "I don't need it. I have money."

"Your money is yours. This is what you deserve. If your family needs help, just ask. I'll help with whatever I can." He smiled gracefully and forced the black card into her hand.

His words wrapped her heart in warmth.

Despite her fake identity, he didn't mind. He gave her money and was willing to help her family. If this wasn't love, what was?

Lyric accepted it to save his respect but didn't plan to use it. Money was the last thing she needed.

But she was still touched that Daniel was willing to spend money on her.

She watched Daniel leave, seeing his figure through the window, holding a black umbrella.

The rain kept falling steadily. Lyric couldn't help but feel bothered by Daniel's attitude. It was like he was one person at night and someone else during the day.

She couldn't quite put her finger on it.

Maybe Daniel was just too reserved and hadn't fully adapted to being in a relationship, she thought.

She called a friend, asking her to dig into Daniel's past. She was curious about everything related to him and wanted to know more.

After lunch, Walter contacted her, and a few movers came to pack her things and move her.

She thought Daniel would have her move into The Taylor Family estate.

But she was wrong.

She moved into Daniel's apartment.

A two-bedroom, one-living room place.

The apartment was a bit small, suitable for a couple.

The furniture and decor were all new.

Lyric didn't mind these details. Being together was enough for her. The size of the house didn't matter. What mattered was that she was Daniel's girlfriend, his future wife.

Walter hurried back to The Taylor Group after helping her move.

The empty apartment was now just her.

She grabbed her tablet and found a video on how to tie a tie, practicing on herself until she mastered the skill.

[Dinner, make soup. I want some.]

This was a message from Daniel, along with a list of his favorite dishes. She opened the tablet screen, and the menu was full of home-cooked meals.

She had never heard of, let alone eaten, most of these dishes, much less cooked them.

She felt a bit uncomfortable, gripping the tablet tightly. She was his girlfriend, not his maid.

Was this really a relationship based on mutual respect?

She replied to him: [We can go out for dinner. I'll wait for you to come back.]

It clearly indicated that she couldn't cook.

Daniel: [If you don't know how, learn. Didn't you say you learn things quickly? That you're a fast learner? Cooking isn't harder than being a secretary. I hope every meal is made by you.]

He sent a lot of messages.

If it were before, she would have refused. Why should she? Dating wasn't about being a servant.

But she remembered last night, how he held her pitifully and said, "If you like me, you can't give up halfway. No matter how I treat you, you can't leave. I like you. More than you think."

All her insecurities were soothed by these words. She had liked him for so many years, put in so much effort, and finally, they were together.

She couldn't throw a tantrum.

"Lyric, don't doubt his feelings for you. If he didn't love you, why would he be with you? He's just too reserved to express his feelings. Men need to be taught." She muttered to herself.

Lyric thought about this and replied: [Okay. I'll cook for you.]

Daniel: [Good girl.]

His closing words were a compliment.

Feeling a wave of nausea, Lyric ran to the bathroom and threw up.

She vomited for a while but nothing came out.

She washed her face with cold water and looked at herself in the mirror. She thought she must have eaten something bad to feel so nauseous.

Her friend's call came in at that moment. She took a deep breath and answered.

"Lyric, I found something about what you asked me to look into."

"Go ahead, I'm listening." Her voice was tired.

Her friend noticed something was off. "What's wrong? Are you feeling unwell?"

"I must have eaten something bad. I'm a bit nauseous."

"Could you be pregnant? Morning sickness?"
