Chapter 581 Desperately Embracing Each Other, Striving to Live

"Raymond, don't you have any shame?" Margaret's face flushed with anger. His words made her sound desperate. How could he say something like that?

She kicked his shin again to show her displeasure. "Say it again and I'll really get mad."

"Alright, alright. I need to head to the office for a bit. We'll have dinner together tonight." Raymond finished washing her hair, cupped her cheeks in his hands, and kissed her forehead.

Margaret still acted like a little girl when she got mad, which made her even more adorable.

As Raymond left the bathroom, Margaret quickly put on her pajamas and followed him out. While drying her hair with a towel, she asked what he wanted for dinner. She planned to cook for them.

She followed him to the walk-in closet, helping him pick out a shirt and tie, then dressed him. She tied his tie, smoothing out any wrinkles.

She repeatedly reminded him not to overwork himself and to remember to come home for dinner.

He smiled, put on his watch, and promised he would. Before leaving, he kissed her cheek.

Margaret covered her mouth and smiled happily. She was very content with her life now. But fate has a way of not letting happiness last too long. Sweet moments only become precious when faced with enough hardships.

She dried her hair with a blow dryer.

Then she tied her hair into a ponytail with a black hair tie.

Wearing slippers, she went downstairs.

After chatting with Mary for a bit, she changed clothes and went to the supermarket to buy ingredients for dinner. Mary wanted to go with her, but Margaret was worried that no one would be there to look after Felicity if she woke up, so she told Mary to stay home.

The supermarket was close by, and she treated it as a walk. She had been cooped up in the hospital for a long time after giving birth and hadn't had a chance to get some fresh air.

After she picked out the ingredients, it was around six o'clock on a summer evening.

The shops along the street were already filled with customers.

As Margaret walked by, she smelled the aroma of beef and cumin in the air.

She glanced around, feeling that everyone seemed to be living well, perhaps because she was so happy and content with her own life. Raymond was reliable, and Felicity was adorable.

Margaret realized that her past hardships seemed so far away, almost fading from her memory.

In the distance, the sky was a deep blue, and a golden full moon had risen.

'Dad, Mom, are you doing well in heaven? Heaven should be free of suffering and illness, filled only with endless joy. Do you ever think of me while you're enjoying yourselves? Do you know that I'm living a good and happy life now? You have a granddaughter. When she turns one month old, I'll bring her to your graves so you can see her. Please continue to bless our family of three, keeping us safe and together. Especially Raymond, who loves me dearly and even donated his liver to me. He can't have any accidents.' Margaret thought to herself.

Margaret saw a family of three generations walking towards her. The couple held hands, their parents also holding hands, each holding a little boy and a little girl.

The family looked so happy together.

Margaret couldn't help but glance at them a few more times, feeling a pang of sadness. If her parents were still alive, she would be just like that now.

Her eyes grew moist.

She comforted herself, "Margaret, nothing is perfect. Cherish what you have now. Let the past stay in the past." Her parents wouldn't blame her; they loved her and would only want her to be happy.

Back home, Mary helped with the cooking and chatted with her.

Mary wanted to cook so Margaret wouldn't have to, but Margaret insisted on doing it herself. She wanted Raymond to eat the food she made.

Just then, Felicity started crying, and Mary quickly ran out of the kitchen to check on her in the nursery.

Margaret followed and saw Mary feeding her formula.

She breathed a sigh of relief.

When she first started dating Raymond, she wanted to cook for him, so she spent money to learn. But he was always cold and distant, though her desire to take care of him was strong.

Later, when her father fell ill and needed money, Raymond and she had a falling out and divorced. She never cooked for him sincerely after that.

Now, with their daughter's birth, she felt like she and Raymond had returned to their starting point. They both tacitly chose not to talk about the past hurts.

They embraced each other tightly, trying to live and be happy.

After dinner was ready, Margaret set the table.

But Raymond still hadn't come home.

There was no call or message.

She called him, but his phone was off.

Margaret felt a bit disappointed and, to be honest, hungry. Mary suggested she eat first, saying Raymond wouldn't be upset. She shook her head, saying they had agreed to eat together, so she would wait.

Felicity started crying again, and Margaret took her from Mary's arms, holding her close. Mary used a toy to distract her, and she finally stopped crying.

Her little face turned red from crying so hard. Margaret's heart ached.

She fed Felicity and put her to sleep.

Mary went to rest.

Raymond still hadn't come home.

Margaret didn't know what he was busy with, why he was so late.

She didn't call again, knowing his phone was off because he didn't want her to ask.

Margaret was understanding.

At 11:30 PM, a bright white headlight shone through the upstairs window.

As the car engine turned off, she knew Raymond was back.

His footsteps on the spiral staircase were heavy and subdued.

Raymond, carrying his briefcase, saw the lights were still on as he reached the top.

A small figure sat on the couch.

His heart ached, knowing she had stayed up late because of him. He thought she would be asleep. Waverly was still missing, and he had a big argument with Alvin at the office today.

To quell his anxiety and frustration, he buried himself in work. He turned off his phone, fearing his unstable emotions might cause him to lash out at Margaret, making her worry.

She loved her beauty sleep, so he didn't expect her to wait up for him.

"You're still up?" Raymond said, trying to sound casual as he tightened his grip on his briefcase and walked towards her.
