Chapter 175 Inescapable Fate
Margaret claimed she had a terminal illness and was being hunted by people sent by Ashley. She offered him the voice recorder, but he brushed it off as if it were nothing. His eyes were always so cold, like ice. But when it came to Sarah, he was all soft and caring.
Margaret thought, 'Raymond, you're still married, right? How can you be so close to her? Have you even thought about how I feel?' If he cared, he wouldn't treat her like this, speak so harshly, wish for her death, or make her apologize to Sarah.
Margaret lowered her eyes and looked away. She couldn't stand watching him feed Sarah; it was too much! She wanted to leave, but she couldn't. Marlon was in critical condition; she had no choice. She could only apologize to Sarah, the murderer, and beg for mercy. There was no escaping it; this was her fate.
Margaret let out a few bitter laughs as her slender fingers struggled to push open the hospital room door. With all her strength, she finally managed to make it creak open.
Margaret pressed her lips together, deliberately avoiding looking at them. She stared at the floor as she walked into the room.
Sarah's sharp and panicked voice pierced her eardrums. "Get out! Raymond, make her leave!" Sarah screamed hysterically.
Margaret frowned and finally looked up. How ridiculous! Wasn't it Sarah who asked her to come? Why was she now acting so scared?
Sarah seemed greatly agitated, her face full of tension and fear. Hiding behind Raymond, her frail body trembled uncontrollably.
Margaret sneered. Anyone who didn't know better would think she had done something terrible.
Raymond looked back at Sarah with gentle eyes, lightly patting her back and speaking to her softly, trying to comfort her.
This scene was truly ironic. Margaret's fingers clenched tightly. He was her husband, yet she had to watch him comfort Sarah. When she and Raymond used to argue, he treated her the same way—extremely considerate. But after Marlon's accident, he changed.
She could never understand how Raymond became so unrecognizable, so unfamiliar overnight. It turned out that love never disappeared; it just transferred. He transferred his affection for her to Sarah.
After comforting Sarah, Raymond looked at Margaret with cold eyes, immediately noticing her sneer. He furrowed and said, "You came to apologize, so what are you laughing at?"
"Raymond, I don't want to see her. I'm scared. Make her leave, okay?" Sarah cried, trembling.
Raymond reached out and patted her hand, saying, "Don't be afraid, I'm here with you."
Margaret's heart sank even further. He used to say that to her too. Now he was saying it to someone else.
"If you're going to apologize, do it quickly and leave! Can't you see she's scared of you?" Raymond looked at Margaret with displeasure.
Margaret said with a sneer, "Of course she's scared; she has a guilty conscience!"
"Margaret!" Raymond's voice rose harshly.
Margaret remained silent. She saw Sarah hiding behind Raymond, looking at her with a provocative gaze, but Sarah said in a soft and pitiful tone, "Raymond, she doesn't seem very reluctant. Let's just forget it. I don't need her apology."
"She should apologize to you. Just asking for an apology is already very generous of you," Raymond said in a deep voice.
Raymond didn't actually want Margaret to apologize either; after all, Margaret was his wife. But Margaret had done such a wrong thing. If Sarah pursued it, Margaret would have to pay the price, possibly even go to jail.
If an apology could settle these troubles and appease Sarah, why not? So Raymond had to act, deliberately being harsh to Margaret in front of Sarah to calm her down.
"What are you standing there for? Don't you know how to apologize?" Raymond said impatiently to Margaret.
Margaret blinked her dry eyes and pressed her lips together. He was actually yelling at her like this for Sarah, so impatient.
With her temper, she really wanted to walk up and slap Sarah a few times before walking away. But in her current situation, she no longer had the confidence or courage. Thinking of this, Margaret took a deep breath and said, "Sarah, I'm sorry."
Raymond said, "Apologize to her sincerely and show that you truly feel sorry! If you can't do it properly the first time, you'll keep doing it until you get it right. Once I see your sincerity, you can leave."
Faced with Raymond's words, Margaret was momentarily dazed, looking at him for a long time. He looked exactly the same as when they first met, so why did his words feel so unfamiliar? It made her feel like she had never really known him.
"What are you looking at? Don't think about stalling for time! Margaret, if you want Marlon to continue his treatment, do as I say!" Raymond deliberately acted annoyed.
He was threatening her with Marlon again! This was his usual tactic, and she had no choice but to succumb to his threats.
The old Margaret was very proud, never apologizing. But now, she took a deep breath, forcibly suppressing the bitterness in her heart, and then bent down.
Her voice was sincere yet indifferent, without a trace of fluctuation. "I'm sorry, Sarah. It was my fault. I shouldn't have been jealous of you, shouldn't have blamed you for ruining my family with Raymond, and shouldn't have cut your face with a knife, causing you to suffer from depression. Please forgive me for this foolish mistake."
Margaret paused for a moment, then continued, "I don't love Raymond anymore; I don't want the position of Mrs. Howard either. I wish you both a lifetime together. This is my sincere apology; please forgive me this once."
Sarah, hiding behind Raymond, felt a rush of satisfaction seeing the once high-and-mighty Margaret finally admitting her mistake in front of her. Because all along, it was she who had been currying favor with Margaret, constantly apologizing.
The feeling of being on top was so addictive. Although Margaret didn't die this time, it was satisfying enough to wound her pride.
Sarah glanced at Raymond. His face grew increasingly grim, veins bulging on his forehead as he glared at Margaret. He didn't know why, but hearing Margaret's words made him angry. "Get out and wait!" he said, his words sharp and cutting.
Margaret's heart ached, tears welling up in her eyes. Not wanting to appear pathetic in front of Sarah, she turned and ran out of the room, slamming the door, then sat on a bench waiting for Raymond to come out. She couldn't hold back her tears, and they burst forth all at once.
