Chapter 25
But Margaret was drawing a blank on where she’d heard that address before.
Suddenly she recalled thatit was Raymond's old stomping grounds.
Back when they were in a relationship, she’d always wanted to take a look at his hometown, but he’d shut her down every time. He said it was a backwater village and she, being all prim and proper, wouldn’t fit in.
Plus, he was an orphan with no family left. There was no point being there.
Margaret figured his hometown was a sore spot, so she stopped pushing.
Now, with Marlon getting framed for murder, she figured it was time to hit up Ironwood Lane.
The airline’s website showed the last flight from Silverbrook to Eastlake City was still up for grabs. Margaret snagged a ticket online, packed her thermos, toothpaste, toothbrush, and some clothes into her backpack.
She left the bedroom, swapped her shoes at the door, checked her phone, ID, and car keys, and bounced from The Hughes Manor.
The iron gates of The Hughes Manor slid open, and a black SUV zoomed out.
Under a tree, in a white sedan, Ashley, the nurse Raymond had canned, with her long curly hair and burn scars, spotted Margaret in the driver’s seat of the black SUV through her half-open window.
Ashley fired up her car and tailed her.
Raymond had blacklisted her in the medical field because of Margaret, and she wasn’t about to let that slide.
She’d planned to storm The Hughes Manor and confront Margaret.
But security was tight, and the guards didn't let her through, saying she looked sketchy.
Lucky for her, she only had to wait two hours for Margaret to go out.
Her phone rang out of nowhere.
It was an unknown number. Ashley picked up and said respectfully, "Sarah, I saw Margaret leave. She’s heading to the airport."
Ashley and Sarah were old school besties.
They hadn’t kept in touch much while Ashley was at the hospital, but after she got canned by Hubert and her stuff was tossed out, she reached out to Sarah.
Sarah hooked her up with a place to stay and even threw her ten grand to help with her revenge.
Ashley bit her lip nervously. "Sarah, after I do this, you gotta keep your word and put in a good word for me with Mr. Howard to get me a decent job."
"Don't worry. What I say is what Mr. Howard wants. Keep tailing her and update me," Sarah said, brushing her off. Just then, the restaurant door swung open.
Raymond, in a black suit, black-rimmed glasses, and black leather gloves, stood at the door. Alvin held the private room door open.
Sarah quickly hung up and flashed Raymond a sweet smile. "Raymond, here you are."
Raymond walked over, pulled out a chair, and sat down coldly. He glanced at a fancy cake box on the table and looked up at Sarah. "Who were you talking to?"
"Just an old friend I haven’t talked to in ages." Sarah’s eyes flickered with guilt but quickly steadied. She waved to the waiter. "We’re all here now. You can serve the dishes. Thanks."
The waiter brought out all the dishes, filling the table.
The woman helping serve the food couldn’t help but tease when she saw the well-dressed Sarah, "Sir, is this your wife? You two look perfect together."
