Chapter 289 Do You Have Morals?
Sarah squinted her eyes and smiled seductively, "Come talk to me after your wife and son are dead. You know I can't be your mistress forever without a proper title. It's immoral."
"Do you even have morals?" Hubert retorted, biting his cigarette.
Sarah didn't get angry and continued lying through her teeth, "Your wife and son are so healthy right now, they probably won't get sick anytime soon, let alone die. So, Hubert, isn't it better to keep things as they are?"
Hubert took the cigarette he had just started smoking out of his mouth and pressed it into the ashtray.
He suddenly grabbed Sarah's jaw, forcing her to open her mouth. Then he kissed her lips.
Sarah hadn't even reacted.
Big gulps of smoke were transferred into her mouth by Hubert, the pervert.
Sarah choked and frowned, wondering if it was because she hated him that the smoke tasted so awful.
But Hubert kept his lips on hers, entangling her in a death grip.
It wasn't until the thick smoke had entered her lungs and swirled around several times that he let her go, pinning her against the edge of the hot spring pool, and sneered, "You're rotten to the core. You want me to kill my wife and kid?"
"Didn't you say you wanted to marry me? How can I believe you without any sincerity? If you don't have the guts, don't stop me from marrying Raymond," Sarah pouted, smiling wickedly.
Hubert looked at her bright features and suddenly smiled, "I just like a woman as bad to the extreme as you. So sexy."
Conquering a bad woman like Sarah, making her submit to him, was a pleasure Hubert was deeply addicted to.
In his eyes, Sarah was just a stupid and bad woman who could never escape his grasp no matter how much she struggled.
Now, he found her more and more adorable.
Before Sarah could react, he lifted her legs, positioning her on his waist.
Once again, she was forced to endure a storm.
"What are you doing?" Sarah frowned in displeasure.
Hubert was rougher each time because he felt that no matter what, Sarah was never enough.
"You want to kill my wife and son, and I won't give you a lesson? Sarah, even if you marry Raymond, you're still my woman. If Raymond dares to sleep with you, I'll chop him up."
"You lunatic!"
"Ah!"
"Sarah, scream louder, I like to hear it."
Sarah bit her lip, her fingers digging into Hubert's flesh.
The sad part was, while Hubert wanted to marry her, she was plotting to make Hubert disappear forever, to stop blocking her path.
In the Hughes Manor, Margaret had just finished her bath and came out of the bathroom.
She heard Mary on the phone with Raymond, speaking in a restrained tone, "Yes, Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard has eaten. Okay. I will take good care of her and ensure the baby in her belly is safe."
Margaret sneered.
At the last check-up, the attending physician said the baby had mutated, developing into a monster with several hands and feet.
She wondered how the baby was now.
The doctor said it was a miracle she had lasted this long. But she hadn't collapsed yet.
She didn't want this kind of miracle at all.
Back in the bedroom, Margaret dried her hair and unplugged the fully charged phone charger.
Joseph: [Okay, I'll send you the address, come to my law firm tomorrow to discuss it in detail.]
It was a reply from half an hour ago.
Soon it was the next day.
Margaret got up early, had breakfast, and asked Mary to buy her favorite groceries. Mary was overjoyed to see her willing to eat and quickly agreed, taking the shopping basket and heading out.
After Mary left, Margaret took a cab to Joseph's law firm.
The firm was located in the best part of the city, and it was quite large.
It seemed Joseph was doing well.
Joseph had a private office, very spacious and tidy.
Margaret told Joseph her request.
Joseph sometimes frowned, sometimes smiled, and sometimes looked serious.
After asking questions and clarifying doubts, it was over.
Dressed in a suit and tie, looking every bit the professional, Joseph checked his watch and suggested to Margaret, "Margaret, how about we have a simple lunch together?"
"I'd rather not, you're so busy. I don't want to disturb you," Margaret thought for a moment and declined.
She needed to get back quickly; if Mary returned with the groceries and didn't see her, she would be suspicious.
Hiring a lawyer had to be done secretly, not openly discussed.
But Joseph insisted, "We rarely get to see each other, and we need to discuss the case anyway. We will have to meet sooner or later."
"Alright then, sorry for the trouble," Margaret said with a smile.
Margaret and Joseph didn't have a close relationship; they had barely interacted.
She only knew that at Silverbrook University, there were two prominent figures.
One was Raymond, and the other was Joseph from the law department.
At that time, she was entirely focused on Raymond, pursuing him, and only knew of Joseph by name.
Occasionally, she saw him from a distance on the road.
They ate at a regular restaurant, but the table was filled with dishes.
Strangely, the dishes Joseph ordered were all Margaret's favorites.
Margaret smiled and said, "You like these too, huh?"
Joseph smiled without saying anything. He had eaten with the boss a few times, and the boss always ordered these dishes.
He just guessed that Margaret would like them too, given how much she liked the boss.
"I really didn't expect you to remember my name and know who I am," Margaret said, flattered.
Joseph joked with a smile, "You're quite famous too. At Unity University, who didn't know about you chasing after Raymond?"
Margaret's smile froze at those words.
In the past, hearing people say that would make her feel sweet, like it was a beautiful memory. Now, it felt stupid and humiliating.
Joseph naturally noticed Margaret's bad expression and added, "But you and Raymond got married right after graduation, which is quite a story at Silverbrook."
Margaret held her utensils, eating her favorite dishes, but they tasted bland.
"Joseph, can you take on my case against Raymond?" Margaret asked directly, lifting her eyelids.
Joseph pondered for a moment, "Raymond is also my college mate. From my judgment, he wouldn't harm Marlon. Besides, your evidence isn't enough to prove he's a murderer."
Margaret, who once loved Raymond so much, suddenly wanted to send him to prison. This shocked Joseph.
"I saw it with my own eyes. He let go of my dad's hand, and he had a motive. He always wanted my dad dead," Margaret bit her lip, pretending to be calm.
'What does Joseph mean by that? Does he not want to take the case? Or is he avoiding suspicion?' Margaret thought.
Joseph smiled and said, "Margaret, how about this, I'll go back and evaluate the case, and see how likely we are to win. Agreeing to take it on hastily would be irresponsible to you, don't you think?"
