Chapter 275 We Are a Couple, No Need to Be So Polite

Half an hour later, they arrived at Marlon's hometown, which was a very backward, remote mountain village.

The road was winding and extremely narrow, which was repaired with Marlon's investment.

The trees on both sides were like two huge umbrellas, leaning towards the road.

Margaret had come here once when she was very young, to visit her grandparents with Marlon.

The snow on the mountain was heavy, and the trees were covered in a blanket of white, glaring and bleak.

Snow fell on Margaret's thin cheeks and the shoulders of her black clothes.

Margaret held the urn in her hands, feeling its heavy weight.

She couldn't imagine that a living person, over a hundred pounds, was now confined to a small, square box.

Nancy, at some point, was holding Marlon's portrait, walking side by side with Margaret.

It was already early spring, but there was no warmth in the air; the wind was even more biting.

Raymond followed from a distance, watching Margaret's lonely figure, feeling indescribable emotions.

He wanted to approach, but he couldn't.

He could only guard Margaret in this way.

"Your dad loved snow the most. It was snowing on the day we got married, over twenty years ago," Nancy said

The road was steep. Maybe because her health had deteriorated, Margaret got very tired after walking for a while, but she still pushed on to send Marlon to his resting place.

Nancy, holding the portrait, seemed to recall something from long ago. "It was snowing the day you were born too. It was the biggest snowstorm in decades, a year of snow disasters. Crops in many places across the country were frozen to death. Many farmers had no harvest at all."

"So I was so unlucky," Margaret smiled bitterly.

When she was born, crops died.

When she grew up, she caused Marlon's death.

She brought down the Hughes family overnight.

Nancy said, "Your dad and I always thought you were lucky. Margaret, pull yourself together."

What Nancy didn't know was that she was also close to death.

Margaret felt a heavy weight in her heart upon hearing this.

They arrived at a barren land. There were two graves, one for her grandfather and one for her grandmother.

Margaret remembered that they had passed away before she was born, and she had never seen what they looked like.

Alvin was directing the bodyguards to dig a square pit with shovels.

Once the pit was dug, Margaret stepped forward, looking down, seeing that the urn in her arms was already covered with a layer of white snow.

Margaret lifted her long, pale fingers and brushed off the snow from the urn expressionlessly.

"Dad, we're home. Grandpa and Grandma are here, you can reunite with them." Margaret's voice was very low, only she could hear it.

She blinked her dry eyes and added. "It won't be long before I will come to find you too."

Margaret suddenly remembered when she was a child, she did something wrong, and Nancy wanted to hit her. She would always hide behind Marlon, who would comfort her and then comfort Nancy.

She still remembered Marlon telling her, "Margaret, you are my pride. I love you very much."

Margaret also remembered when she wanted to marry Raymond, Nancy disagreed.

She argued with Nancy, went on a hunger strike, and ran away from home.

After just one meal of hunger strike, Marlon couldn't bear it and helped her persuade Nancy.

Marlon agreed and indeed did it, even bringing Raymond into the Hughes Group.

He said, "Margaret, I'm helping Raymond because one day, we will leave this world, leave your side. Someone has to take care of you, and protect you. No matter how strong you are, you are still a girl. I hope Raymond is as good as you say and will treat you well for a lifetime. I hope you haven't chosen the wrong person."

Sadly, she had chosen the wrong person.

She married Raymond, causing Marlon to end up like this, losing his life.

Margaret's heart ached so much she could hardly breathe.

But she couldn't cry anymore; it was as if her tears had dried up.

"Dad, I can't bear to part with you," Margaret murmured.

At this moment, Alvin stepped forward and gently reminded her, "Mrs. Howard, it's time. We should let Mr. Hughes be buried as soon as possible. It won't be good if we delay."

Nancy also stepped forward, looking at Margaret. "He's right. Let your dad be on his way."

Margaret held the urn with both hands and walked to the pit.

She half-knelt in the snow, the snow seeping through her pants, chilling her knees to the bone.

Margaret bent down, as if holding a rare treasure, carefully placing the urn into the pit.

Then she took the portrait Nancy handed over and placed it inside as well.

Alvin directed a few bodyguards to start, then they used shovels to fill the pit with soil again.

The pit was filled, becoming a small mound.

Margaret and Nancy laid flowers for Marlon.

The driver, servants, and others who came also laid flowers, paying their respects.

Many people came to mourn Marlon, but most of them were family servants.

Mary also came, seeing Margaret getting thinner and feeling heartbroken. "Ms. Hughes, I also came to see Mr. Hughes off."

"Thank you." Margaret bowed to her, expressing her gratitude.

She bowed to everyone who came to mourn.

Margaret kept bowing and saying thank you.

She didn't even notice who the mourners were.

Raymond also stepped forward.

Margaret lowered her head and bowed. "Thank you."

Raymond's body instantly tensed, and after a moment of silence, he corrected her in a low voice. "We are a couple, no need to be so polite."

Hearing this, Margaret suddenly looked up, seeing Raymond in black, standing in front of her, face to face.

His expression was very cold.

Margaret squinted at him. "What exactly do you want?"

"Your dad passed away, I should mourn him," Raymond's thin lips tightened.

He had a lot of opinions about her words.

Why could she thank and bow to other unrelated people who came to mourn Marlon?

But when he came, she was so wary, with such a bad attitude.

Nancy saw Raymond and got emotional again, crying through gritted teeth. "Who let you come to mourn? What right do you have to mourn? If it weren't for you, would Marlon be dead? Stop pretending! You have no good intentions! Leave now, we don't want to see you! Marlon doesn't want to see you either!"

Nancy got more and more emotional, grabbing Raymond's collar and pushing him out.
