Chapter 438 You Have to Make Me Proud, Get Married Soon
Sarah shouted at Raymond, "Aren't you her husband? Where were you when she jumped off the building? Why didn't you protect her? Didn't you love her? Raymond, you're a terrible husband! I'm heartbroken for Margaret!"
Raymond pressed his lips together, his eyes filled with sorrow.
Yes, he was indeed a terrible husband.
There were so many signs before Margaret jumped, but his negligence led to her death.
"You think just turning your hair white is enough? Margaret is dead! She's dead, Raymond! Your beloved Margaret is dead!" Sarah wrenched free and swung at Raymond, her voice raw with fury. "She was proud! Terrified of pain! What the hell did you do to push her this far?"
Sarah stepped back, tears blurring her vision, and collapsed to the ground. "Margaret! How could you do this to us? You died without even saying goodbye! We were so worried about you, how could you be so selfish? Even if you fought with Raymond, you shouldn't have played with your life! Your parents only had you, their precious daughter! They wanted you to live well! Now that you're gone, they won't rest in peace!"
"Even though you misunderstood me and stopped considering me a friend, I always saw you as my best friend. You were so young, only twenty-three, and now you're gone. I can't accept it."
Sarah cried so hard that she started hyperventilating and fainted on the ground.
Alvin decided to stay and help Raymond with Margaret's funeral.
Raymond turned to Hubert. "Take Ms. Martinez back to the hospital. She already has depression; she can't handle too much grief. Money is not an issue. Her health is the priority."
"Don't worry, Mr. Howard, I understand." Hubert walked over to Sarah, picked up her unconscious body, and carried her out.
Hubert placed Sarah in the back seat of the car and drove towards the hospital.
Through the rearview mirror, he glanced at Sarah, who had her eyes closed. "Stop pretending."
As soon as he spoke, Sarah opened her eyes, sat up straight, and sneered. "How was my performance?"
"You were crying pretty hard back there," Hubert mocked.
Sarah laughed. "I was crying tears of joy. Outwardly, I expressed my sorrow for Margaret's tragic death, but inwardly, I was celebrating. I'm glad that Margaret is dead."
"If I wasn't worried about laughing and messing up the act, making Raymond suspicious, I wouldn't have fainted. It hurt like hell," Sarah said, rubbing her arm and wrist.
The car window was half open.
Feathery snowflakes blew into the car with the cold wind.
"Why did you open the window? It's freezing."
"I wanted to clear your head, so you don't get too carried away," Hubert warned. "Margaret is dead, but if you don't win over Raymond in the next half month, your time is up too."
Sarah instinctively touched her neck at his words.
She had heard of Hubert's methods and had even wronged him before, so she knew she had to succeed in winning Raymond over.
Only by winning Raymond over could she have a chance to turn the tables on Hubert.
Hubert spoke again. "I have a plan that could increase your chances."
"What is it?"
"I'll help you get plastic surgery to look like Margaret. Then you can get close to Raymond. When he's drunk, you can undress and get into bed with him. No man can resist seeing a woman who looks like his deceased wife when he's drunk. Once he sobers up and realizes you're not Margaret, it'll be too late. He'll think you funded him, and he'll give you a place in his life."
"What if he denies it?" Sarah hesitated.
Hubert sneered. "You don't understand men. When their most beloved woman is gone, everyone else becomes a compromise. You're his benefactor; this is his chance to repay you."
"But I don't want to spend my life as Margaret's replacement," Sarah murmured, biting her lip, her fingers digging into her palm.
Hubert lost patience. "Margaret's death provides you the opportunity to draw closer to Raymond! If she were alive, would you have a chance? Who do you think you are? When Margaret was alive, did Raymond ever look at you? You've given so much to Raymond—your youth, your time. Do you still want to be his wife? Remember how Margaret bullied you and looked down on you! If you want to be forever crushed by a dead woman, I won't stop you."
He continued, "Remember, if you don't win Raymond over in half a month, the evidence of how you tortured Margaret's unborn child in Silverwood will be in Raymond's hands. I'm curious, if Raymond finds out about your dirty deeds and how you pretended to be Margaret's benefactor for years, will he kill you himself?"
Sarah's back went cold, and she swallowed nervously. "You're threatening me!"
"You can see it that way."
"If you drag me down, you won't escape either! I advise you not to go down with me!" Sarah growled.
Hubert kept driving, curling his lips in disdain, and let out a cold laugh.
Sarah said, "What are you laughing at?"
"I'm laughing at how naive you still are. When I hand you over to Raymond, do you think you'll be able to speak and drag me down? You've done so many despicable things; even if your enemies seek revenge, Raymond won't investigate deeply." Hubert sneered.
Sarah was furious and resentful, her fingers digging into her flesh. This bastard was threatening her to do something she didn't want to do again!
But he was right. If he decided to destroy her, she wouldn't be able to resist.
Only by becoming Raymond's wife could she have a chance to turn things around.
"When's the surgery?"
"Tomorrow. I'll arrange it."
In the Aquilonia.
When Daniel arrived at the international hospital, Margaret was being wheeled out of the operating room.
David walked down the hallway with Daniel, pointing at him. "I go abroad for a conference, and you seize the opportunity to schedule a surgery!"
"Mr. Jones, how did Margaret's surgery go?" Daniel asked directly.
David removed his mask, glanced at him, and smiled mysteriously. "This time, even God is on your side. You better make the most of it and marry her soon."
