Chapter 617 Lyric, You Are Already a Mother
Tears streamed down his thick eyebrows.
Seeing him like this, Lyric felt her heart shatter into a million pieces.
"I'm sorry... I'm so sorry, Daniel. If I had known it would come to this, I wouldn't have treated you that way. I wouldn't have made things difficult for you when we reunited, wouldn't have spoken to you so coldly, wouldn't have told others you were just my bodyguard."
Lyric continued, "Daniel, please wake up. I'm begging you. We haven't even gotten married yet. I was going to tell you some good news—my parents have finally given their blessing. If you wake up, we can get married. Nia and Walter are getting married too. Everyone is so happy. You can't do this to me."
Lyric's throat was so tight with emotion that her shoulders shook with her sobs.
She was a mess of tears.
Now she understood—he really was in a coma, not faking it. If he could hear her crying, how could he bear to remain unresponsive?
Lyric covered her mouth, her eyes red and swollen from crying.
Remy came in, looking at Lyric's back with a pained expression. "Lyric, you have to stay strong. Your health is the most important thing. He'll be okay."
No, he wouldn't be okay.
He wasn't going to wake up.
Lyric turned around to look at Remy.
Suddenly, everything went black, and she fainted.
She had a long, long dream. In the dream, she was back on her college campus, walking along the tree-lined paths. Every time she went to class, she would take a detour to look at the photos of distinguished alumni hanging on the lighthouse.
For some reason, out of all the distinguished alumni, she had her eyes set on him.
She found herself in the school auditorium.
As the host for a successful alumni speech, she had put on beautiful makeup and wore a long red dress.
Standing next to him, she tried to hide her nervousness, chatting and laughing with him.
His speech was passionate and inspiring, the spotlight making him the center of attention.
She stood backstage, watching intently, greedily taking in the sight of Daniel in his white shirt and silver-gray pants. His pants were perfectly pressed, highlighting his tall, lean figure. His white shirt was casually rolled up to his elbows, revealing his toned arms.
This image of Daniel was deeply imprinted in her memory. Even years later, she couldn't forget the one time she was so close to the man she admired.
After the speech, there was a Q&A session with the alumni.
Lyric wasn't going to miss this chance to shine. She was the most impressive student in the room, asking professional and insightful questions.
After he answered, she smiled at him and introduced herself, "Daniel, my name is Lyric."
She whispered, "Daniel, please remember me."
"Lyric, I remember your name. It's nice to meet you," he said, smiling politely.
Just those words made Lyric's cheeks flush. She thought, 'Thank goodness for the lighting and her makeup, or he would have seen her blushing.'
"Daniel, can I ask you a question? It's for the benefit of the students here," Lyric said, hiding her true feelings well.
Daniel nodded. "Sure thing."
"Does The Taylor Group recruit interns every year?"
"Yeah, we do."
"What are the requirements to become an intern at The Taylor Group?"
Daniel explained that besides having excellent grades, relevant work experience was also important.
Lyric took his words to heart. From that day on, she worked hard to become one of his employees.
Every summer break, she would intern at The Vaughn Group, following Zephyr to learn how to network, negotiate deals, and secure clients quickly.
So when she graduated, with an outstanding resume and a perfect fit for the position, she became the only intern at The Taylor Group that year.
Unfortunately, on her first day at the company, she ran into him.
And she realized Daniel had forgotten her.
He had forgotten her name, her face, everything about her.
To him, she was just another ordinary intern.
In her dream, everything was still possible.
This time, she introduced herself again, telling him her name was Lyric, not Della.
She confessed her feelings passionately, chasing after him.
They got together smoothly.
When their parents found out they were each other's blind date, they were overjoyed.
There were no more obstacles, no more hardships.
They got married, had children, and their families were happily united.
But even the most beautiful dreams have to end.
Lyric woke up the next afternoon.
Remy and Zephyr were by her side. When she opened her eyes, she saw Remy crying and scolding Zephyr.
She suddenly noticed that Zephyr's temples were graying. When had he gotten old? She hadn't even realized.
"Mom, don't blame Dad. He's just worried about me," Lyric said, her throat sore.
Zephyr looked at her, tears in his eyes, filled with guilt and love. "Lyric, you're finally awake. You scared your mom and me to death."
"I'm fine."
Lyric took Zephyr's hand and then Remy's, placing their hands together. "Stop blaming each other and fighting. Daniel's situation has shown me that we can't predict what will happen tomorrow. Dad, Mom, I know you love each other. Stop saying hurtful things. For my sake, please live happily together."
"Lyric, thank you," Zephyr said, deeply moved. He loved his wife dearly, despite his occasional stubbornness. Since Remy had threatened divorce over Daniel's accident, he hadn't slept for several nights.
Lyric's words made him feel it was worth all the love he had given her.
Remy wiped her tears. "I'll listen to you and forgive him this time. But you need to take care of yourself. You're a mother now. Don't treat your health carelessly."
"Lyric, when Daniel wakes up, you two should get married. I've realized he's someone you can rely on for life. I don't regret making things difficult for him because I didn't want you to live with the wrong person. If he has to suffer a bit for my daughter's lifelong happiness, then it's worth being the bad guy," Zephyr said, smiling to comfort her.
