Chapter 260 New Year's Eve
Marlon held the pen and wrote on the paper again: [I want to see him. Please help me get in touch.]
Margaret looked at Marlon's eyes filled with longing.
She didn't know what Marlon wanted with Raymond, but she knew it was one of the few wishes Marlon had mentioned. She couldn't refuse his only request, even though she knew it was very inappropriate for Raymond and Marlon to meet.
If Margaret had known that their meeting tomorrow would lead to such irreversible consequences, she would never have contacted Raymond to come over for New Year's Eve.
Unfortunately, there were no regrets in life, only endless surprises, and suffering.
Thinking of this, Margaret blinked her dry eyes.
Marlon wrote another sentence: [Don't worry, nothing will happen.]
Margaret pressed her lips together, her heart aching to the point of suffocation, but she still agreed to Marlon, "Okay, I'll contact him. Dad, don't worry."
Margaret took out her phone and opened her Facebook.
She saw that Raymond hadn't replied to her messages at all.
The last contact was yesterday when she sent him a message apologizing for wrongly accusing him.
So much time had passed, and he still hadn't replied. Was he too busy? Or did he see it and pretend not to?
If she could, Margaret didn't want to contact him.
Marlon had just been bullied by Sarah. Although Sarah was sent to the detention center, Margaret still blamed Raymond for it.
Without Raymond backing her up, Sarah wouldn't have dared to go that far, openly hurting Marlon in a café.
Margaret called Raymond, but the phone rang and rang with no answer.
Margaret saw Marlon watching her, and to avoid worrying him, she deliberately put the phone on silent and forced an explanation for Raymond not answering. "He might be too busy. I'll go find him."
Marlon made muffled sounds, and from his lip movements, it was clear he was reminding her to be careful on the road.
Margaret turned and went downstairs.
Watching Margaret's departing figure, Marlon sighed. 'Tomorrow, all this sin will end.'
He hoped Margaret would live well after his departure.
In the Hughes Group, the CEO's office was brightly lit.
Raymond finished dealing with the files on his desk and then noticed the missed call from Margaret on his phone.
He picked up the phone and looked at it for a while.
When he was hesitating whether to call back, the door to the CEO's office was pushed open.
As he looked up and saw Margaret walking in, she immediately noticed the phone in his hand, realizing he had seen the message but chose not to reply, their marriage reduced to this—pitiful and sad.
Seeing Raymond, the first image that flashed in Margaret's mind was Marlon's hand being stepped on by Sarah's high heel.
All because of Raymond. If it weren't for Raymond's protection, Sarah wouldn't have dared to act so recklessly.
Margaret clenched her fists and closed the door to the CEO's office.
Raymond was also surprised by her sudden visit, but when he saw her clenched fists, his eyes narrowed. Yesterday, she had sent him a message saying she had wrongly accused him. Was she here to hit him again today?
Raymond frowned, "Who upset you again?"
'Besides Sarah, who else could it be?' The words to retort him surged in her throat.
But Margaret thought of the words Marlon had written in her palm, Marlon asking her to keep it a secret, Marlon asking her to contact Raymond for New Year's Eve.
Margaret suddenly felt that Marlon's heart was far more magnanimous than hers, capable of holding the vast stars.
Hearing Raymond's words, Margaret seemed to wake up from a dream. She was here to deliver a message, not to argue. So her clenched fists slowly relaxed.
Margaret didn't want to look at him, so her gaze fell on his desk. "Come to the house for dinner tomorrow. Don't be late."
After saying that, Margaret turned to leave.
"You invite me to dinner with that attitude?" Raymond laughed coldly behind her.
He really didn't like her attitude, the way she spoke.
Margaret turned her head and glared at him. "Raymond, don't push it."
"If you hate me so much, why invite me to your house for dinner? Why put yourself through that?" Raymond squinted.
Margaret snorted coldly, "It's my dad who wants to see you, not me. I've delivered the message. If you have any conscience, you know what to do."
Watching Margaret leave, Raymond laughed in anger. Her temper was getting worse, even worse than his.
She invited him to dinner with no sincerity at all. And she said if he had any conscience, he would know what to do.
If he had no conscience, would Marlon still be alive? Did she forget who paid for Marlon's medical bills? Who did the Hughes Family rely on now?
Although he was angry, Raymond decided to accept the invitation for Margaret's sake.
Because this was the first time in a long time that Margaret had actively invited him to dinner.
Even though her attitude was bad, she still invited him.
Raymond had Alvin prepare generous gifts, filling a car with presents.
There were health products Nancy liked, luxury purses Margaret used to love, and books Marlon enjoyed.
This was the first time Raymond had seriously prepared gifts for the Hughes.
But despite bringing so many gifts, Nancy gave him no face at all. Seeing Raymond, her expression turned sour. "Why are you here? Who invited you? Get out!"
Nancy was furious at the sight of him. Without Raymond, Margaret and Marlon wouldn't be in their current state.
Raymond's face also darkened.
"Mom, Dad invited him."
Nancy and Raymond followed the voice.
They saw Margaret pushing Marlon in a wheelchair out of the house.
Nancy's face turned even darker as she walked towards Marlon. "Marlon, are you out of your mind? It's New Year's Eve, why did you invite him? His presence really kills the vibe."
Marlon shook his head and made muffled sounds.
"Mom, Dad suddenly wants some dessert from outside. He asked me to go with you to buy it. Let's go." Margaret walked towards Nancy, holding her hand. She also wanted to get Nancy out of the way because Nancy had the biggest conflict with Raymond.
Nancy looked at Marlon uneasily. "I don't want to go. I don't feel comfortable leaving your dad alone at home."
Marlon looked at Nancy anxiously and made muffled sounds.
Sensing Marlon insist, Nancy had no choice but to leave with Margaret.
Raymond noticed that Margaret didn't even want to look at him, and his brows furrowed.
The most infuriating part was that as Margaret walked past him, she warned him. "It's New Year's Eve, Raymond. If you upset my dad, I won't let you off!"
Raymond laughed in anger. She invited him for New Year's Eve, and now she didn't trust him.
After Margaret and Nancy left, Raymond saw Marlon struggling to stand up from his wheelchair bit by bit.
He almost fell. Raymond didn't want to help him, but remembering Margaret's warning, he reluctantly went forward to support Marlon's arm. "You're already like this, can't you just stay still?"
Raymond had no idea he had already fallen into the trap Marlon had set with his life.
