Chapter 578 I Still Deeply Love You
"Of course. Your smile means everything to me, Margaret," Raymond said, his eyes brimming with affection as he grinned.
Margaret stood on her tiptoes and kissed the corner of his mouth, sending a jolt of electricity through both of them.
"I'll be happy, Raymond. For you, for our daughter, for our family, I'll be happy. You should be happy too," Margaret said, using one finger to lift the corner of his mouth into a smile.
"I know you're dealing with a lot right now. Life's not always easy. When things get tough, we'll handle them together. If there's a problem, we'll figure it out. Your mind's always been sharper than mine. If you can't solve it, I sure can't."
"Margaret, that's not what I meant."
"But I want to be there for you, Raymond, your emotional support. As long as you're willing to share with me. If you don't want to talk, I won't push you. Just remember, you have a family now. You have me and our baby to think about. Take care of yourself. You can't overwork yourself anymore. You just recovered from leukemia; you need to learn from that," Margaret said, her words flowing endlessly, filled with concern.
Hearing her words, Raymond felt a mix of emotions—guilt, gratitude, and love. He lowered his head and kissed her lips gently. "You're amazing, Margaret. You're the best wife in the world. I was such a fool to treat you badly before."
Margaret smiled. "You've been good to me too. Love is a two-way street. I can't just take from you. Even though you're a man, you're still human and you get tired too."
It had been a long time since they had been intimate, and even a simple kiss made Margaret's heart race. She cupped his face and responded passionately to his kiss.
She was too good, too passionate.
Raymond found himself overwhelmed.
She pressed him against the wall of the hospital room.
He closed his eyes, his cool lips trailing down from her brow, along her nose, to the soft skin behind her ear, unstoppable like a fall breeze sweeping away leaves.
Suddenly, a memory from a few months ago flashed in his mind.
He had woken up to Waverly's cries, seeing her body covered in red marks.
The bedsheets were stained with dried blood.
"Raymond, last night you wouldn't let me leave, and you kept calling out Margaret's name. Who is Margaret?"
Raymond's closed eyes fluttered. He felt dirty, unclean. How could he bring this filth to Margaret?
Guilt and helplessness overwhelmed him, making his head throb.
His desire vanished instantly.
He snapped back to reality and pushed Margaret away.
Margaret looked at him in shock, not understanding what had just happened. Everything had been fine a moment ago, so why the sudden change?
In all their years together, this had never happened before.
"Raymond, what's wrong?" Margaret asked, worried.
He rubbed his forehead, avoiding her gaze, his eyes heavy with fatigue. "I'm just a bit tired. I'll make it up to you next time, okay?"
"Okay. If you're tired, rest," Margaret said, hugging him and patting his back. "Is it that tough problem that's giving you a headache?"
Raymond held her, feeling a pang of guilt. "Margaret, I'm sorry."
'Sorry, I think I messed up again. Sorry, the person I was controlling has disappeared. And sorry for ruining the moment.' He wondered.
"We're a couple; we need to understand each other. There's no need to apologize. Everyone gets tired sometimes. You're not a machine."
"Margaret, don't worry. I'll handle this as soon as possible so you won't have to stress," Raymond said, his words carrying a double meaning that Margaret didn't catch.
He meant he would find Waverly and deal with her before Margaret found out, keeping the secret buried forever.
Margaret thought he was apologizing for stopping their kiss halfway.
Her face blushed, and she playfully hit him. "Alright, let's move on from this. If you bring it up again, I'll be mad."
"Why don't you visit Daniel and keep him company for a few days? I need to focus on work and might not have time to be with you."
"Okay," she agreed understandingly.
A couple of days later, Raymond went to work at The Howard Group, and Margaret, feeling bored, took Felicity to visit Daniel.
In the few days since she last saw him, Daniel's condition had improved significantly. He was off the ventilator but still receiving treatment.
He had lost a lot of weight.
Margaret, knowing he was feeling down, brought Felicity closer to him and said, "Felicity, tell Daniel to get better soon and bring Della back. Tell Daniel to get better so he can buy us toys."
Felicity studied Daniel seriously. She didn't recognize him and stared at him with her clear, beautiful eyes.
She didn't cry or fuss.
"So your name is Felicity? You're so cute. You'll be as beautiful as your mom when you grow up," Daniel said, smiling at Felicity.
Felicity remained expressionless, just staring at him.
Margaret held Felicity's tiny hand and said, "Do you want Daniel to hold you? This is Daniel, my brother. He'll protect you too."
Felicity seemed to understand. Though she wasn't even a month old, she smiled at Daniel and reached out her hands to him.
Daniel gently touched her adorable face. "I'm not well enough to hold you yet, Felicity. When I get better, I'll hold you. And we'll find Della. You'll like her; she's pretty too."
Felicity smiled, putting her fingers in her mouth, looking very happy.
Soon, Felicity got tired and fell asleep in Margaret's arms. Margaret gently patted her and asked Daniel, "Daniel, I've seen the news about your illness everywhere. Has Della contacted you?"
Daniel smiled bitterly.
"Could it be that Della doesn't know about your illness?" Margaret asked again.
He shook his head. "Impossible. My illness is all over the internet. She just doesn't want to see me."
