Chapter 409 You Ungrateful Person, Is This How You Treat Me?
Margaret's whole body shook with rage, her fingers gripping her phone so tightly she was about to crush it.
Uncontrollable anger surged from her heart.
She threw her phone to the ground, where it landed heavily in the rain.
The downpour grew more intense, pounding against her face, making it nearly impossible to keep her eyes open.
The walk home felt endless.
Only the dim, lonely streetlights stood on either side of the road, silently watching her struggle.
Rain blurred her vision, making it hard to see the path ahead. She wiped her tear-streaked face with a hand that was raw and sore.
Flashes of memory from Everpeak Mountain Hospital came to her. She had lost her memory there, manipulated by him like a fool.
"Margaret, we grew up together. We're both orphans. Your parents died when you were very young."
"Margaret, once your surgery is successful, we'll have our wedding again. You'll be my bride once more."
"Margaret, I don't want you to regain your memory. I'll take good care of you."
Images of Raymond and her, kissing and embracing, overlapped in her mind.
"Raymond, I'll wait for you to come back!"
She felt like such an idiot, deceived by Raymond's lies, even praying for him in a snowstorm, bowing with every step.
Praying to God to protect him.
She even thought if he died, she wouldn't want to live either.
She had taken him to her parents' graves, how ironic!
Her parents had hated Raymond so much, how could they ever want to see him? They must be furious in their graves, cursing her for being an unfilial daughter.
The overwhelming sadness consumed her, suffocating her.
If he was going to deceive her, why not do it for a lifetime?
Why let her remember?
Oh, right, Sarah had said Raymond hated her, wished she would die soon. He had been saying that ever since she was diagnosed with cancer.
He saved her just to torment her. How could he deceive her forever?
Raymond's cruelty was beyond her imagination. The Hughes Family was gone, her parents were dead, and it still wasn't enough!
He had to find new ways to torture her.
Margaret broke down, crying, veins bulging on her forehead. How could he be so heartless?
While making her lose her memory and deceiving her, he was doing disgusting things with Sarah.
They had once loved each other. She was his ex-wife, couldn't he at least let her die in peace?
In the apartment.
Raymond settled the parrot in its cage, then sat on the couch, smoking.
The ashtray on the coffee table was overflowing with cigarette butts.
For some reason, he felt particularly uneasy tonight, his eyelid twitching.
He had a bad feeling something was going to happen.
But Margaret was asleep in the bedroom, what could possibly go wrong?
He must be overthinking.
Footsteps echoed.
Raymond looked up.
A flash of purple lightning lit up the floor-to-ceiling window.
The pale light fell on Margaret.
She looked eerie and pitiful.
Margaret stood at the top of the stairs.
Her hair clung messily to her pale face.
Her cheeks were swollen, her mouth bleeding, water dripping from her eyelashes, face, clothes, and fingers.
Margaret didn't move closer.
She stared coldly at Raymond, who quickly stood up, worry in his eyes. "You weren't sleeping in the bedroom?"
So he thought she was asleep in the bedroom.
Sarah was right. He had rushed out, not to find her.
He didn't even know she had been through something terrible.
"Margaret, what happened?" Raymond hurried towards her, both worried and anxious.
Margaret smirked. He was such an actor. Wasn't tonight's event his plan, to make her remember and change the script to torment her?
"What happened to me, Mr. Howard doesn't know?" Margaret sneered.
Raymond froze at her change in address.
She seemed different, her eyes cold, like countless blades cutting his face.
Raymond opened his mouth, wanting to say something, but didn't know what.
He was panicking, confused.
He saw tears streaming down Margaret's face. "Raymond, you lied to me so cruelly."
"We grew up together in the same village? My parents died when I was very young? Raymond, are you even human? You don't mention any of the wrongs you've done to me! You make yourself out to be a good husband?" Margaret laughed bitterly.
"Margaret, I—" I had no choice. I wanted you to live well. Only if you lost your memory would you get treatment.
Strange, she had been injected with the amnesia drug, how did she remember?
Was it fate?
Before he could finish, Margaret screamed, "Shut up! You think I'll believe your lies now? Raymond, if you were going to deceive me, you should have done it for a lifetime! Not pull this stunt! Did you see the note I left you?"
"What note?"
"Where did you go tonight? To pick up Sarah?"
Raymond felt like he was drowning, suffocating.
She had found out, she knew everything.
What was inevitable had come, there was no escaping it.
What he feared had come true.
Raymond saw the blood dripping from her mouth. He pleaded, "Margaret, you just had surgery, you shouldn't be agitated. Let's go to the hospital to treat your wounds, and then I'll explain."
Raymond took out his phone, about to call Alvin to get a doctor. He needed to find out what happened tonight.
Margaret snatched his phone and smashed it. "What are you pretending for? Isn't this what you wanted?"
Raymond didn't dare speak, knowing she had depression and bipolar disorder. Any provocation could drive her mad. He had experienced it at Everpeak Mountain Hospital.
But his silence only fueled Margaret's anger. Seeing him, she thought of Sarah's photo.
Her rage was unstoppable. She thought of her parents' deaths, the fall of The Hughes Family. Margaret shook with anger, stepped forward, and slapped Raymond hard. "You ungrateful bastard, is this how you treat me?!"
