Chapter 410: You Are Not Human, You Are a Beast

"Raymond, you're not even human, you're a monster! No, you're worse than a monster! Even a dog knows to wag its tail when you treat it well, but you? You lied to me, you hurt me, you killed my parents! Why did you even save me?"

Margaret's eyes were blazing with fury, tears streaming down her face as she slapped him, each blow harder than the last.

Raymond's face went numb from the hits, but he didn't defend himself or explain. He knew she wouldn't believe him no matter what he said.

His face quickly turned red and swollen from her slaps. Margaret's hand started to ache, but she grabbed his bathrobe collar and snarled, "You think if you don't fight back, I'll forgive you? Dream on! Raymond, you deserve to die! From the beginning to the end, the one who should die and go to hell is you!"

"Margaret, you're cursing me to die—" Raymond was stunned, his eyes reddening. He couldn't believe that the bright, cheerful girl from earlier that evening was now cursing him to die.

The contrast was too stark, too shocking.

They had been so close to happiness, but it slipped away, becoming nothing more than a fleeting dream.

Margaret's fingers clawed at his face, clearly driven mad with rage.

His face was soon a bloody mess, her nails digging into his flesh.

"Why didn't you die, Raymond? You should have died on your way back from that business trip! You shouldn't have woken up, you shouldn't have left the ICU! I shouldn't have been foolish enough to pray for you in that blizzard! I shouldn't have asked God to protect you! I should have asked God to send you to hell sooner!" Margaret's words were sharp and relentless.

Margaret raised her hand to slap him again.

This time, Raymond caught her hand with precision.

No matter how much Margaret struggled, she couldn't break free.

Raymond, eyes red, stared at her. "Margaret, you have no idea what the truth is. If I hadn't risked my life to donate part of my liver to you, you would have died long ago."

They were supposed to be husband and wife, yet here they were, cursing each other, wishing the other dead.

The irony was that while she wished him dead, he couldn't bear the thought of her dying. He wanted her to live well, carefree and healthy.

Raymond tightened his grip on her hand.

Margaret, unable to break free, bit down on his hand.

The sharp pain made Raymond frown, but he didn't let go.

After all they'd been through, he couldn't let go now.

Margaret's tears fell even harder. Even when she tasted blood, he didn't release her. Instead, he held her tighter, as if trying to merge her into his body. "Margaret, stop it. Let's go to the hospital and get your wounds treated."

Margaret's words were like knives, cutting into Raymond's heart.

He had overestimated his ability to endure. No one could listen to their beloved curse them repeatedly without feeling anything.

Not even if that person was his ex-wife.

Raymond knocked her out, carried her to the bed, and called Hubert to come over and treat her wounds.

Then he called Alvin to find out what had happened that night.

Hubert arrived quickly and was shocked to see Margaret's injuries. But he diligently treated her wounds.

Raymond stood on the balcony, smoking and listening to Alvin's report.

"Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard regained her memory because Evelyn, who kidnapped her last time, injected her with a memory-restoring drug."

"Handle it," Raymond said coldly, crushing his cigarette.

Alvin hesitated for a moment. "It's already been handled."

"What do you mean?" Raymond asked.

"She knew she had no way out. Half an hour ago, she hanged herself in an abandoned factory. Before she died, she called the police and left a suicide note explaining that she kidnapped Mrs. Howard to get revenge on you."

"Keep going."

"Do you remember, Mr. Howard? Evelyn used to work with The Hughes Group. But she offended Mrs. Howard, and you canceled the collaboration to stand up for her. She was fired and had to pay millions in damages. Her husband divorced her, and she lost custody of her daughter. That's why she kidnapped Mrs. Howard. The first time, you saved her in time."

"I had her face disfigured with acid. But a few days ago, she went to see her daughter, and her husband threw her out. She went to the kindergarten to see her daughter, but her daughter didn't recognize her because of her disfigured face. The lawsuit for the damages was about to start, and she couldn't find a lawyer. That's why she took such extreme measures."

Raymond hung up silently. He had canceled the collaboration out of jealousy when he saw Evelyn teasing Joseph and Margaret.

He never imagined that Margaret's two kidnappings were because of him.

He had wanted to protect her from the storms, but it seemed he was the one bringing them.

"Mr. Howard, I've treated Mrs. Howard's wounds," Hubert said respectfully as he stepped out of the bedroom.

Raymond rubbed his tired eyes. "Take good care of Margaret's injuries. Don't let anyone else handle it. If anything happens again, you'll answer to me."

"Thank you for giving me a chance to make amends, Mr. Howard. I won't let you down."

Leaving the apartment, Hubert sat in his car, lit a cigarette, and called Sarah. "Margaret's memory is back. Raymond had me treat her wounds. Evelyn didn't rat you out, did she?"

"She killed herself and left a note. You didn't drug Margaret, did you?"

"What drug?"

"The one to make her go crazy. That way, Raymond will get tired of her. Hubert, we need to seize this opportunity. If she goes crazy, Raymond will be fed up with her. This is our chance."

Hubert took a drag on his cigarette. "You're a real piece of work. Aren't you afraid her parents will come for you at night?"

"I wasn't afraid of them when they were alive. Why would I be afraid of them now? Trust me, drug her to make her lose her mind. If she jumps off a building thinking it's a staircase, all the better."

"She already has severe depression and bipolar disorder. There's no need to add fuel to the fire. Besides, Raymond is watching me closely. He'll have someone check the medication I give her."

"Fine, if you won't do it, I'll just stoke the flames. Margaret can't handle the pressure. She'll use her death to get back at Raymond. Then, all his money and everything will be mine. Ha ha..."
