Chapter 124 Raymond's Wish

Margaret made her wish and opened her eyes, surprised to see Raymond with his eyes closed, making a wish too. She had thought he didn't believe in that kind of stuff.

As meteors streaked across the sky, Raymond finished his wish and drove away from the university.

Margaret watched the scenery and trees pass by in silence.

Raymond quietly gripped the steering wheel, as sunlight spilled over his handsome, impassive face, rendering him increasingly inscrutable.

Seeing a grocery store, Margaret mentioned she needed to buy ingredients for the next morning.

Raymond pulled the car over and started unbuckling his seatbelt. Margaret frowned. "I can go by myself. You go back; I'll take a cab home later."

His hand, reaching for the seatbelt, stopped abruptly.

Margaret meant well.On one hand, he could get angry at any moment;on the other hand, his words were harsh. Today, she was heartbroken several times because of him.She didn't want to hear any more of his cold remarks.

Raymond didn't appreciate it. "Afraid I'll follow you and interrupt your date?"

Margaret was infuriated by him and couldn't be bothered to argue. She directly opened the car door and got out.

Raymond followed her.

A car brushed past Margaret, causing her to freeze. Raymond's large hand pulled her sharply into his arms as the car sped away.

Margaret was still in shock. That driver had no regard for traffic rules!

Raymond said, "Can't even cross the street properly. What purpose do your eyes serve?“

He wanted to comfort her but then remembered she was Marlon's daughter. He had to refrain from treating her too kindly, lest she become conceited once more and even more unreasonable. His words were laced with reproach and impatience.

Margaret wanted to push him away, but he held her tightly by the waist, crossing the street and entering the mall.

"Now it's safe. You can let go of me." Margaret struggled free and pushed the shopping cart forward.

Raymond felt a surge of anger again, but seeing her increasingly thin back, his anger dissipated a bit.

When he saw her carefully selecting the ingredients he liked, the corners of his mouth involuntarily lifted. He knew she was trying to please him.

Actually, he knew everything; he wasn't a fool. Her willingness to put effort into him was better than anything.

After selecting the ingredients, she pushed the cart to the checkout.

A little boy came running, holding a water gun and spraying water everywhere. Seeing the boy about to bump into Margaret, Raymond blocked her. The water from the gun splashed onto Raymond's expensive suit. His face instantly darkened.

"Sorry, sorry, we didn't mean it. He is just too rambunctious." A middle-aged woman ran over, smacking the boy's butt a few times and apologizing to Raymond.

As they sensed Raymond exuded an extraordinary aura, they knew they couldn't afford to offend him.

Margaret also worried Raymond would get angry and couldn't help but say, "He didn't do it on purpose."

"Sorry, I dirtied your clothes. How about you take them off, and my grandma can wash them for you? She washes clothes really clean; she's the best at washing clothes in the world." The boy, holding the water gun, looked nervously at Raymond.

Raymond didn't say anything.

The boy reluctantly handed the water gun to Raymond. "Don't be mad. I'll give you my water gun. It's really expensive."

The boy's nervousness made Raymond chuckle. He patted the boy's chubby cheek. "How expensive?"

"One hundred dollars," the boy said seriously.

Raymond smiled.

Seeing him smile, Margaret and the boy's grandmother both breathed a sigh of relief. The grandmother quickly smiled at Raymond. "Sir, he is ignorant. Please don't hold it against him."

The boy said, "I'm not lying. It's really expensive. One hundred dollars is my dad's daily net pay."

The boy's earnestness and understanding made Raymond's eyes sparkle with amusement. "I forgive you, but you shouldn't run around in public places. But it is best not to run around recklessly in a public place like a supermarket. If you damage items, you having to pay for them is a minor issue; If you injure yourself, not only will you suffer pain, but your family will also be heartbroken and sad."

"I'll remember your words. You're a good person." The boy beamed and kissed Raymond on the cheek.

Raymond was stunned for a moment. It was the first time someone called him a good person.

He dominated the marketplace with shrewdness and cunning, his moods mercurial and unpredictable, yet in the child's eyes, he was regarded as a good person.

Indeed, in a child's mind, there were only good people and bad people.

Raymond was in a good mood, so he paid for the groceries himself.

Margaret didn't argue with him. After all, her monthly salary was only a dollar; it wasn't worth spending her own money on groceries.

All the way home, Raymond's lips were curved upward.

He found the little boy at the store quite amusing.

Raymond thought, 'If Margaret and I had a child like that, would the child be as sensible and mature?'

He often heard his parents say that children werethe bond between a couple;to stabilize a relationship, a couple needed a child.

Back home, Margaret started washing the groceries, preparing them for cooking the next day.

Watching her busy herself for his sake, he suddenly felt as though they had returned to a year ago, back to their happy state of living.

"Do you like children?" Raymond, who was holding a water glass, walked casually in front of her, not helping with the washing, just asking.

Margaret didn't think much of it and replied casually, "Of course I do. Children are so cute. When we first started dating, I wanted to have a child with you."

Realizing her mistake, she stopped. He hated her so much; how could he want her to have his child? He would probably want Sarah to have his child.

"Don't you want to now?" Raymond tested her.

Margaret kept her head down, peeling the potato in her hand.

It wasn't that she didn't want to now; she couldn't.

She had a child in her womb now. But tomorrow, she had to have an abortion.

Margaret didn't want to continue the conversation but she feared he might suddenly turn on her and torment her. She replied, "I do, but I know you wouldn't let me."

He was quite satisfied with her answer and sneered. "I didn't expect you to have such self-awareness."

Margaret said, "Thank you for the compliment."

"Do you know what wish I made today?" he asked again.

Margaret pursed her lips. "I know."

"You really know?" He squinted, surprised by her answer.

Margaret lowered her eyes and smiled bitterly. "As long as you keep your promise to help my family through this difficult time, I will fulfill your wish."

Raymond said, "Then tell me, what wish did I make?"

She looked up and saw him leaning against the door frame, holding a glass, relaxed and carefree.

Margaret gripped the peeler tightly and blinked. Of course, she knew what his wish was. His greatest wish was for her to die!
