Chapter 591 You Were Deceived, How Can I Live This Life

Walter had a different side to him, one that everyone in their circle was aware of. They often crossed paths. Walter was closer to Daniel, while he and Raymond were more like casual friends.

So, when it came to Margaret, Walter always felt she wasn't the right fit for Daniel.

Between Margaret and Della, he preferred Della.

But now that Della had taken off with Cade's money, Walter thought the new match was better for Daniel.

People always thought their friends deserved the best.

Before he could say anything, Daniel flicked his cigarette ash, glanced at Walter, and said to Raymond, "Don't worry about him. His girlfriend's already working at The Taylor Group. Just get ready for the wedding."

"Don't talk nonsense. There's nothing going on. I just felt sorry for her and helped you out," Walter explained, frowning.

"You felt sorry for her? How come you never feel sorry for me?"

"Haven't I done enough for you? I even gave you my WhatsApp, right?" Walter shot back.

Raymond couldn't help but laugh. "You two should just get together and stop bothering the girls."

As he looked up, Raymond saw a familiar figure. His face changed instantly as he watched the figure head towards the hotel banquet.

Raymond stubbed out his cigarette. "You guys keep chatting. I have something to take care of."

Seeing him rush off, Walter turned to Daniel. "What's his deal? Why's he in such a hurry?"

"Maybe his little fling came looking for him," Daniel said offhandedly.

Walter, holding his cigarette, asked, "So, if Raymond and Margaret really aren't together anymore, what do you think?"

"Margaret's like a sister to me now. What do you think? Stop making stuff up," Daniel corrected, annoyed. "The only person I like is Della."

"Even though the name's fake, you keep calling her Della."

"Want to come with me to Regal City?"

"You're the one going on a date, not me. I'll stay at The Taylor Group and keep an eye on things for you."

"Fine, I know you can't leave Nia. Good luck. Hopefully, by the time I get back, you two will be together. Then I'll treat Nia to dinner."

"Nia has a boyfriend. They're just having a rough patch. Don't talk nonsense," Walter said with a smile.

In the banquet hall, many people came to chat with Margaret and see Felicity in her stroller.

Finally, a woman wearing a black veiled hat and dressed quite provocatively approached. She reached out with her red-painted nails and touched the sleeping Felicity. "Mrs. Howard, is this your daughter?"

"Yes," Margaret replied politely, though she didn't appreciate the woman's familiarity.

The woman looked at Felicity tenderly, then at Margaret. "You two look so alike. What's your daughter name?"

"Felicity."

"That's a beautiful name. Mrs. Howard, I'm sure your daughter will grow up to be as beautiful as you."

"Thank you."

"Mrs. Howard, I really envy you."

"Envy me?" Margaret looked at her, puzzled.

Margaret couldn't see the woman's face clearly, but from her demeanor and attire, she could tell she was likely a kept woman from a wealthy family.

Despite her luxurious appearance, there was something about her that made Margaret uneasy.

Margaret couldn't quite put her finger on why she felt such hostility towards this stranger.

The woman, still behind her veil, spoke softly, "I envy your noble background, your loving husband, your financial security, and your adorable daughter. Mrs. Howard, as a woman, you're very successful. You're my role model. Your life is my dream."

"Well, I hope your dreams come true," Margaret said lightly, not grasping the deeper meaning behind the woman's words.

The woman smiled even more brightly at this, turned on her high heels, and left gracefully with her purse.

As soon as the woman left, Raymond entered the banquet hall and saw Margaret soothing the now-awake Felicity. He looked at her anxiously. "Margaret, did someone come to see you just now?"

"A lot of people came to see me. Which one are you talking about?" Felicity started crying, so Margaret picked her up from the stroller and patted her gently, looking at Raymond curiously.

Raymond said, "Someone who spoke strangely."

He had just seen her, someone very familiar—Waverly.

But in the blink of an eye, she was gone.

Margaret thought for a moment and said, "There was a strange woman who came to see Felicity. She said she envied my life and that my life was her dream. She also said she envied me for having such a good husband. She didn't look like she was short on money, more like someone kept by a wealthy man. Do you think her benefactor mistreated her?"

This confirmed it for Raymond—the woman was Waverly.

"Did she tell you her name?"

"No."

"Where is she now?"

"She just left."

Raymond hurried through the guests and out of the hotel, but the street was empty except for the scorching sun and the bustling crowd. There was no sign of the person he was looking for.

Not even a shadow.

Margaret, not knowing what he was looking for, pushed the stroller out. "What are you looking for? Do you know her?"

"No," Raymond said, his previously relaxed nerves now taut.

He turned around and hugged Margaret tightly.

She was taken aback. "Raymond, what's wrong?"

"Margaret, let me take you home, okay?" Raymond murmured, almost pleading.

She pushed him away, confused. "Why?"

"There are too many people here. I'm worried about your safety."

"What are you talking about? It's broad daylight in a law-abiding society."

"Margaret, I'm really worried about you, just like you were worried about me before. Go home with Felicity. I'll come find you as soon as I'm done here. Okay?"

Seeing how concerned he was for her and Felicity, Margaret felt touched rather than suspicious.

She smiled warmly. "Okay. Let Alvin take me."

"I'll take you myself."

After taking them back to the apartment, Raymond held her close and kissed her forehead. "Margaret, promise me you won't talk to shady strangers anymore. Like the one just now, okay? Always tell me if you do. Don't keep it from me."

"You're really worried about me?"

"You're my wife. Of course, I'm worried. If someone took you away, how would I live?" He playfully tapped her nose.

Margaret's face blushed instantly.
