Chapter 16
Margaret caught his whisper, shot him a death glare, and snarled, "Say it again! Raymond, I dare you, say it again!"
She was shaking like a leaf, her rage practically radiating off her.
"No matter how many times I say it, the answer's the same!" Raymond smirked.
That beast, Raymond, had the nerve to smile. Marlon was her dad.
Margaret lunged to grab his collar, but he snagged her wrist. "Ms. Hughes, don't get physical with me. It's my bottom line"
"How did my dad die? Spill it, Raymond, why did he die?" Margaret's eyes were bloodshot, boring into him, demanding answers.
His lips twisted into a sneer. "Don't you get it? Because you were a lousy daughter and didn't cough up that million bucks for his surgery!"
He didn't transfer the money! He played her!
"I did everything you asked, why didn't you transfer the money?" Margaret bit her lip, tears streaming down. Marlon, the one who loved her most, was gone.
Marlon died right outside the hospital's operating room, untreated.
Raymond shrugged, still smirking. "Aren't you living just fine now? Margaret, you can't pin this on me."
He was still smiling! Just like when he told her to die.
She yanked her wrist free and slapped Raymond's cold, stern face. "Bastard! Raymond, you're worse than a bastard!
"He was your father-in-law! Even if I didn't die, you shouldn't have let him die without helping! How could I not see your true colors?"
Margaret, still fuming, raised her hand and slapped him again.
Raymond's face turned red, and he suddenly grabbed her wrist, his eyes blazing with hatred. "Margaret, what right do you have to say that to me? Your dad was a murderer, didn't you know? Huh?"
"No way." Margaret shook her head, refusing to believe it. Marlon was always kind, how could he be a murderer?
He snapped, "Your dad ruined my family. Not only did he kill my father in a car accident, but he also hired someone to murder my mother and burned down my house completely!
"If I hadn't crawled out of that fire, I'd be ashes, you get that?"
Raymond's hand clamped down on her thin shoulder. "Now you know how much I hate you? From the moment I saw you, I wanted to kill you! Then I thought, you love me so crazily, and you're Marlon's only daughter. If I made you fall for me, married you, and then ditched you, seeing you in utter despair, it would be way more fun!"
Raymond sneered, "Do you know how your dad died? How miserable he was when he died? He bled out, untreated. Your proud mother, who always looked down on me, got her comeuppance. As soon as Marlon died, she fainted from crying. When she woke up, guess what happened to her?"
Raymond suddenly grinned and spoke softly, "She went nuts. I sent her to a mental hospital! I made sure it was a place with more male patients. Those guys, when they have an episode, like to harass female patients. Will your good-looking mom avoid them?"
Margaret's forehead veins bulged from the provocation, her body trembling uncontrollably. Covering her ears, she screamed, "Shut up! Shut up!"
