Chapter 402 Go Complain to Raymond

Raymond had just left for work.

Margaret, curious about what Sarah was up to, decided to follow. Life had been dull lately, and she figured seeing what Sarah was plotting might provide some entertainment.

Margaret put on her best makeup, chose a chic leather skirt that exuded confidence, and slipped into her high heels before heading to the cake shop Sarah had mentioned.

The shop had a great ambiance, perfect for taking photos.

Sarah had always been jealous of Margaret's looks, especially those eyes that seemed to effortlessly attract men. Today, Margaret's commanding outfit only made Sarah feel more overshadowed.

For some reason, Sarah always felt inferior around Margaret. Today was no different. She had dressed in clothes worth over a hundred thousand dollars, hoping to flaunt her superiority, but Margaret's five-million-dollar diamond ring made her feel uneasy.

Sarah gripped her cake spoon tightly, forcing a smile. "Margaret, you haven't had your wedding yet, right? Why are you wearing that ring? Aren't you afraid people will think you're showing off?"

Just then, a waiter approached with a menu, asking Margaret what she'd like to order.

Margaret, not fond of sweets, asked for a glass of water.

The waiter nodded and left.

"Margaret, aren't you going to order anything? People might think that ring is fake," Sarah said sweetly, though her words were laced with provocation.

Margaret tucked a strand of hair behind her ear and smiled. "Seeing you kills my appetite."

Sarah bit her lip.

Margaret paused, glancing at her. "Besides, I'm wealthy. There's no need to show off. What you see is just my everyday life."

"But you rely on your husband."

"And what's wrong with that?"

"Nothing, I guess," Sarah stammered, unable to find a flaw in Margaret's logic.

The waiter returned with a glass of hot water, placing it by Margaret's hand and complimenting her. "You look beautiful, and that ring suits you perfectly."

Margaret smiled at Sarah, thanking the waiter.

Sarah hated being in Margaret's shadow. Back in college, she was just a nobody while Margaret was the daughter of the prestigious Hughes Family. She had felt a sense of balance when the Hughes Family fell from grace, but now Margaret had effortlessly risen above her again.

Sarah took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.

"Do you dislike me that much?" Margaret asked.

"Of course not, we're best friends."

"But I don't like you. Stay away from me," Margaret said coldly. "Or I'll have my husband send you abroad."

Sarah's eyes widened, her grip on the spoon tightening. "Are you threatening me with Raymond?"

"Think of it however you want."

"You're misunderstanding. Raymond and I are just friends."

"You're not even worth misunderstanding," Margaret said bluntly. She worried that if she was too subtle, Sarah wouldn't get it. "You just annoy me. And stay away from my husband too."

Margaret's domineering tone reminded Sarah of their college days, when Margaret's superiority was insufferable.

Sarah laughed bitterly. Realizing her attempts to sow discord were failing, she smiled. "Margaret, you really think the worst of me. I'm your best friend. I wanted to tell you about your past with your husband."

She pulled an envelope from her bag, containing wedding photos of her and Raymond.

She didn't believe Margaret could see these and remain calm.

If Margaret wouldn't regain her memory, Sarah would provoke her into it.

Sarah held the envelope up. "Your husband wasn't always good to you. He had other women and even took wedding photos with them. These photos are in here. You can look if you don't believe me."

She pushed the envelope toward Margaret.

Margaret glanced at the envelope, tempted to see if the photos were real. Raymond was supposed to be her first love, her husband.

How could he have taken wedding photos with someone else?

But thinking of Raymond's devotion, she chose to trust him.

So she sat there, showing no interest in the envelope.

"Aren't you going to look? Are you afraid to face the truth?" Sarah taunted. "Do your parents know about this? Aren't you curious how they died? If I were you, I'd want to regain my memory. Find out what Raymond is hiding. You think he loves you? No, he hates you. He hates you so much."

"You don't deserve him. Your true love is Daniel, not Raymond."

"Open it. Or should I do it for you?"

Sarah continued, but Margaret remained unresponsive.

Margaret crossed her arms, watching Sarah like she was a circus act. "Are you done?"

Margaret continued, "Anything else to add? Because I won't give you another chance to say this."

"What do you mean? Why aren't you angry? Do you think I'm lying? Are you too scared to look?"

Sarah sneered.

Margaret took a sip of water, then set the glass down.

She reached for the envelope.

Margaret saw the excitement in Sarah's eyes, the anticipation.

Sarah was thrilled, hoping Margaret would look and then confront Raymond. Raymond was hers, not to be taken so easily!

"Do you really want me to open it?"

Margaret glanced at the envelope, then smiled at Sarah before tearing it into pieces and tossing them in Sarah's face. "I'm not interested in your photos."

Before Sarah could react, Margaret grabbed the water glass and splashed it in her face.

The unfinished cake ended up smeared all over Sarah.

Margaret slammed the cake plate on the table.

"What are you doing? Are you crazy?" Sarah's face and hair were covered in cream, making her look ridiculous.

Margaret smirked. "Weren't you trying to cause trouble? I'm helping you. Go complain to my husband. See if he sides with you or me. Who do you think you are, trying to stir up trouble between us?"

As Margaret walked out, she heard Sarah calling Raymond, crying, "Raymond, control your wife! She's bullying me!"

Margaret sighed, striding through the crowd in her high heels. Raymond, will you side with your wife or your benefactor?
