Chapter 493 Everything He Did Was to Bring You Home
Just as the words left her mouth, the door to the room burst open.
Margaret quickly switched on the light, flooding the once pitch-black room with brightness.
Alvin stood there, drenched from the rain, his hair dripping wet. Draped over his shoulder was an unconscious Raymond.
He nodded at her in greeting before quickly helping Raymond into the room and laying him on the couch. Then, he grabbed his phone and moved to the window to call the doctor.
Margaret approached Raymond, noticing his pale face. Blood smeared across his face had been washed away by the rain, leaving streaks. Blood dripped from his fingers onto the floor.
His suit clung to his tall frame, soaked through.
Blood still trickled from his nose.
It was the first time Margaret had seen him like this, and she was at a loss, unsure of what to do.
After a few seconds, she grabbed some tissues to stop the bleeding.
Alvin finished his call and turned around, his tense expression softening slightly at the sight. "Mrs. Howard, I called Rufus. He's on his way. Don't worry, Mr. Howard will be fine."
"I'm not worried," Margaret said, tossing the blood-soaked tissues into the trash, though her heart said otherwise.
Alvin tightened his grip on his phone and explained, "Mrs. Howard, Mr. Howard loves you. He's been through a lot more than you think."
Raymond, once cold and vengeful, had suppressed his emotions, masking his love with logic. No one knew the pain he carried.
Even when he sought revenge on Margaret, it hurt him more than anyone. He would always anticipate danger and protect her without her knowing.
Alvin understood Raymond's hidden kindness, his harsh words merely a reminder to himself not to be swayed by emotions.
Raymond's love and hate were so intertwined that he couldn't distinguish between them anymore.
Alvin's voice choked with emotion. "Mrs. Howard, you lost your memory and don't know many things. You had liver cancer and needed a transplant. The liver you have now is Mr. Howard's."
"What?" Margaret was stunned. Her liver was Raymond's?
She had no memory of it...
"Mr. Howard didn't want me to tell you. If you don't believe me, you can ask Mr. Taylor. He arranged the surgery."
"Mrs. Howard, Sarah deceived Mr. Howard, taking credit for your support. Mr. Howard only felt indebted to Sarah, never any affection. The one he truly loves is you. He just mistook her for you."
"Mr. Howard's body wasn't fit for a transplant. He worked tirelessly for The Hughes Group. The surgeon, Mr. Jones, warned him that he might not survive the surgery. He might have saved you, but he could have died."
"Mr. Howard didn't want you to worry, so he told you he was going abroad for work. Before the surgery, he even wrote a will, leaving The Hughes Group to you. He instructed me to always be loyal to you and not to interfere with your relationship with Mr. Taylor. He believed that if you and Mr. Taylor were business partners, Mr. Taylor would treat you well. You loved Mr. Howard too. When he was in the ICU for days, you prayed for him in the snow, hoping he'd wake up. If you both love each other, why waste time on these misunderstandings? Mr. Howard has severe leukemia and doesn't have much time left."
"Mrs. Howard, please understand Mr. Howard's intentions and stop being angry with him. Do you know why he went to Silverwood to get engaged to Sarah?"
Margaret pressed her lips together before asking, "Why?"
"Because Mr. Howard didn't want to cause trouble in Silverbrook and risk involving you. Even when he was sick in Silverwood, he thought of you, asking me what you were doing. Everything he did was to bring you home."
Margaret's throat tightened.
She had undergone a liver transplant.
Raymond had given her his liver, thinking she was dead, his hair turning white from grief.
She didn't know whether to hate him or what to feel, her mind a tangled mess.
Alvin was about to say more when his phone rang.
After a brief conversation, he hung up and opened the door.
Rufus entered with a medical kit, Alvin closing the door behind him.
Margaret didn't recognize Rufus, but he nodded respectfully. "Mrs. Howard."
"You know me?" Margaret was surprised.
Rufus nodded. "I've had the honor of meeting you a few times."
He took out a bottle of pills, opened it, and placed a few in Raymond's mouth, helping him swallow.
Once Raymond's condition stabilized, Rufus looked seriously at Alvin and Margaret. "What caused Raymond's sudden episode? Didn't he have his medication with him?"
"He must have been in a hurry to find Margaret and forgot," Alvin said gravely.
Rufus's expression darkened. "This is dangerous. Mr. Howard needs someone with him at all times, carrying his medication. He can't be getting wet in the rain. This must never happen again."
"I understand," Margaret said, feeling guilty. Raymond's episode was because of her.
Leaving some medication, Rufus spoke privately with Margaret before leaving. "Mrs. Howard, did Mr. Howard tell you about his condition?"
"He did."
Only tonight, in fact.
"Then you need to convince him to get hospitalized and start treatment. Late-stage leukemia is no joke. When he was diagnosed, it was already advanced. I urged him to get treated, but he said he needed to discuss it with you." Rufus adjusted his glasses. "He's been stalling, saying he needs to finish his work first."
Margaret's heart sank. Was he trying to deal with Sarah and Hubert?
"But Mr. Howard has too much to handle. One thing after another. Mrs. Howard, you need to care about his health. Time is running out."
Before leaving, Rufus repeatedly urged Margaret to ensure Raymond got checked and treated, to see how far the disease had progressed.
