Chapter 298 The Woman Raymond Cares About the Most Isn't Me

"Then tell me, what did you do wrong?" Raymond asked with a blank expression, subtly moving the leg of his trousers aside.

Evelyn missed her mark.

Tears filled Evelyn's long, curled false eyelashes and her delicate makeup. "Yesterday, I shouldn't have had inappropriate thoughts about Mr. Howard."

"And what else?" Raymond squinted his eyes, asking with interest.

Evelyn racked her brain but couldn't think of anything else, looking troubled.

Raymond sneered, "You offended someone you shouldn't have!"

"Like who?" Evelyn thought hard but couldn't think of anyone she had offended besides Raymond.

Raymond scoffed, "The person who had dinner with Mr. Miller yesterday, she's my wife!"

Evelyn was instantly stunned, collapsing onto the carpet in shock. She never expected Raymond's wife to be Margaret, and she had even disrespected Margaret, teasing Joseph and her about being a couple!

"Go apologize to her! If she's willing to speak well of you, this matter can be resolved!" Raymond revealed this information as he had Alvin escort her out.

It was truly pathetic. They were clearly a couple, yet he had to approach Margaret in this manner.

Margaret didn't take a cab, and she chose to walk back to the Hughes Manor.

The sycamore trees lining the street had long since become bare.

The sunlight in the sky had disappeared at some point.

The cold wind blew the bare branches, making them sway.

Just as she reached the iron gate of the villa.

Margaret, walking with her head down, suddenly heard someone shout, "Mrs. Howard!"

Few people called her that, so she didn't react and continued walking.

Evelyn, in high heels, jogged up to Margaret and blocked her path, "Mrs. Howard, hello."

Margaret finally looked up.

She recognized Evelyn as the client manager who had dinner with Raymond yesterday and had mocked her.

Evelyn was covered in luxury brands, but her eyes were no longer as sharp and haughty. She was now very friendly to Margaret, even a bit ingratiating.

Evelyn raised the two luxury bags in her hands, smiling apologetically, "Mrs. Howard, these are the latest limited edition purses. When I was shopping, I thought these two purses matched your temperament perfectly. So I took the liberty of buying them for you."

Margaret glanced at the bags. Having grown up in a wealthy family, she naturally knew the value of luxury purses.

She had been carrying luxury purses since middle school.

Yesterday, Evelyn had treated her as a rival in love, but today her attitude had changed. It was quite amusing.

Margaret smiled, "No need."

Then she lifted her foot to walk towards the iron gate.

Evelyn, unwilling to give up, smiled apologetically and blocked Margaret's path again, "Mrs. Howard, don't be like this. It would be nice if we could be friends. I know you don't lack money, and Mr. Howard treats you well. Yesterday, I was blind. I've had a cold these past few days, so my mind wasn't clear, and I said the wrong things, offending you. I deserve to be punished!"

As she spoke, Evelyn pretended to slap her own face a few times, then laughed, "Mrs. Howard, please don't be angry with me. You're such a noble person, why be angry with someone like me, who struggles for a living? I'm not worried about myself, but I'm concerned about your health."

"Miss, I've already forgotten about yesterday. You're not worth my anger." Margaret, having no fondness for her, said coldly and reached for the lock on the wrought iron gate.

Evelyn, with her back to Margaret, gritted her teeth in anger upon hearing this.

But Raymond had made it clear that if she couldn't appease Margaret, the company would completely abandon her. So she had spent tens of thousands of dollars on these two purses, which pained her greatly.

Unexpectedly, Margaret was so hard to please. Evelyn, unwilling to give up and not wanting her future to be ruined and face millions in compensation, forced a smile and ran up to Margaret again, trying to talk to her, "Mrs. Howard, you're right, I'm not worth your anger. So you're not angry anymore? Can we move past this?"

Margaret said nothing.

"Then could you put in a good word for me with Mr. Howard? Our company's cooperation has been completely terminated. Mrs. Howard, you're the only one who can save me." Evelyn began to explain her predicament.

Margaret finally understood. Evelyn had been talking for so long because Raymond had stopped their company's business, and Evelyn had no choice but to come to her.

Margaret glanced at Evelyn, her tone indifferent, "You're overestimating me. I can't influence any of his decisions. So, I'm sorry, but I can't help you."

Margaret said this, pushed open the iron gate, and then closed it, giving a slight smile to Evelyn outside the gate, "You're in such a mess, I won't lie and invite you in."

Evelyn was stunned by Margaret's actions.

She angrily slapped the iron gate, wincing in pain.

Back in the villa, Margaret tore off all the labels from the painkillers. She was somewhat self-deceptive, thinking that removing the labels would help her forget the fact that she was a terminal cancer patient.

Joseph called, saying he wanted to discuss the case with her.

Margaret changed her clothes and went out. She noticed that Evelyn, who had been trying to curry favor with her earlier, was still there. "Mrs. Howard, please have mercy on me. I can't lose this job. I've worked at that company for over a decade to get to this position."

"Tell me, what can I do to make you not angry?" Evelyn, in a low voice, blocked Margaret's way.

Margaret smiled bitterly, "You've really got the wrong person. I can't help you."

"I didn't get the wrong person. Mr. Howard told me to find you! He said if you're willing to speak well of me, this matter can be resolved!" Evelyn shook her head.

Hearing this, Margaret sneered, "He lied to you. We're enemies, and we're getting divorced. If I speak for you, it might only make things worse for you. You've got the wrong person. I have things to do, so I won't talk to you anymore."

A taxi sped up and stopped in front of Margaret.

As Margaret was about to get in, Evelyn grabbed her arm, pleading, "Mrs. Howard, I'm really a pitiful person. My husband wants to divorce me because he knows I'm about to lose my job! My child is only three years old. If I lose my job, I won't even be able to fight for custody! Mrs. Howard, you're a woman too, you know how important children are to a woman, right? I have no other way, I can only beg you to help me."

"Raymond's most important woman isn't me. You've got the wrong person. Sorry." Margaret pulled her arm away and quickly got into the taxi, as she was in a hurry to meet Joseph.

Sitting in the taxi, Margaret watched the wind blow the withered leaves onto the windshield, making the scene even more desolate.

Why would Raymond terminate the cooperation because of her?

The old Raymond might have, but not now.

Raymond said that he just to use her as a shield to get rid of the nuisance that was Evelyn.
