Chapter 615 If You Interfere Again, I'll Divorce You

Days passed quietly and uneventfully.

But there was still no progress with Daniel, and Lyric was worried sick.

Zephyr was really a tough nut to crack.

Daniel had messaged her on WhatsApp, saying he would come by that evening and bring her favorite bubble tea.

Lyric, who hadn't seen him in days, missed him terribly, and a small smile crept onto her face.

But she waited and waited, and he never showed up.

She started to sense that something was wrong.

The door to her room suddenly burst open with a loud bang, and the sound of the lock hitting the floor.

She put down her phone and looked up to see Remy rushing in, her high heels clicking on the floor. "Lyric, stop waiting. Daniel can't make it tonight."

"Mom, what are you talking about?" Lyric was stunned and quickly denied it.

Remy told her, "Your dad has been reading your chat history with Daniel every day."

Lyric finally realized that their messages had been spied on. Of course, her phone was still in Zephyr's hands.

He had promised not to look, but he was still monitoring them.

Lyric was furious. "What did he do to Daniel this time?"

"This time, it wasn't your dad. When he was leaving work, a laid-off employee attacked him with a knife. Daniel stepped in to protect him. It seems pretty serious. You should come with me to the hospital to check on him," Remy explained quickly.

The news hit Lyric like a bolt of lightning.

It exploded in her mind.

Daniel took a knife for Zephyr, and it was serious? How serious?

Lyric hurried to the hospital with Remy, her heart pounding.

They found Zephyr pacing anxiously outside the emergency room.

Zephyr looked up and saw Lyric. His face was filled with guilt and remorse. "Lyric, I didn't expect this to happen."

"Dad, are you okay? Are you hurt?" Lyric asked, her throat tight with emotion.

His eyes reddened instantly. His daughter still cared about him.

"No, I'm fine. But Daniel is seriously injured."

Lyric's nose tingled, and her tears began to fall.

She thought about how hard it had been to get to this point, and now this unexpected event had happened.

Remy gently wiped her tears and comforted her, "Lyric, don't worry. He'll be okay. He was a hero in the fight against drugs and came out unscathed. He'll get through this too."

The more Remy wiped her tears, the more they flowed. Her throat felt tight, and she looked at Zephyr. "Dad, can't you see that Daniel has saved both you and Mom twice now? Please, stop making things difficult for him. He's had such a hard life, never recognized by his father, lacking fatherly love. He's struggled since he was a child."

Zephyr remained silent.

Lyric cried and pleaded, "Dad, I really, really like him. If you don't agree, I'll never get married. I can't be with anyone else. He's risked his life for you and Mom. How could he be bad to me? Everyone makes mistakes, and he knows he was wrong. You've already punished him. If it weren't for him, you'd be the one lying in that emergency room. We should be grateful, right?"

"Yes, honey. You've already avenged Lyric. That's enough. Our daughter's happiness is what matters most," Remy chimed in.

Zephyr still didn't speak. Even though Daniel had taken a knife for him, he was still angry. How could his daughter be treated like that?

He said coldly, "I won't let his sacrifice go unrewarded. I'll compensate him accordingly."

"But you know he doesn't want compensation. He wants me," Lyric cried.

He turned his head away, refusing to look at her. "That's his problem. He should have cherished you from the start."

Lyric cried even harder, realizing for the first time how stubborn Zephyr was.

Remy felt heartbroken but didn't dare to say more. It seemed convincing her husband to fully accept Daniel would take time.

The light in the emergency room stayed on.

Lyric waited in the hallway, praying constantly. Daniel, you have to make it through. We haven't even gotten married yet. There are so many things we haven't done.

The wait was excruciating.

Lyric couldn't even eat. A nurse brought her food, and Remy urged her, "You need to take care of yourself. If you collapse when he comes out, that'll be a real problem."

"If you keep making things difficult for him, I won't eat," Lyric said coldly.

Zephyr's eyes narrowed, and he laughed angrily. "You're saying this for a man?"

"We're at our wit's end, okay? Dad, choosing my life partner is my decision. You can advise, but you can't interfere. Do you want him dead to be happy? If that's the case, I'll hate you forever," Lyric said bitterly.

"How dare you talk to me like this for him?"

"Because he's worth it. He's not even officially my boyfriend, yet he risked his life for my family. What mistake can't be forgiven? Dad, I know what you're upset about. You think I lost a child and was looked down upon. But think about it calmly. Didn't I have any fault?"

Lyric wiped her tears, but they kept flowing. "I lied to him from the start. My name, my background, everything was fake. If I had been honest, he wouldn't have misunderstood. He's already paid for his mistakes. And if he hadn't saved Mom from the drug lord, would we have the good life we have now?"

"Dad, put yourself in his shoes. Stop making things hard for him, and don't force me to hate you. Do you know, those beatings you gave him left scars all over his back. Yet he never said a bad word about you to me. It was my idea to have a child before marriage."

"How dare you!" Zephyr gritted his teeth.

Lyric cried and laughed. "I wanted it, but do you know what Daniel said? He said he couldn't do that to me. He wanted your approval first, then we'd get married and have a child."

Zephyr was surprised. Indeed, if Daniel had taken that approach, he would have had no choice but to give in. He hadn't expected that.

"Dad, please stop. I'm begging you." Lyric wrapped her arms tightly around his legs.

Remy quickly tried to pull her up. "Lyric, what are you doing? Get up."

"If you don't relent, I won't get up. Lyric is being selfish for her happiness," Lyric said, shaking off Remy's hand.

Remy turned to Zephyr, her face stern. "Say something. I'm warning you, if you keep interfering, I'll divorce you."
