Chapter 268 She Wants to Stay with Marlon
"Hurry up and get him on the ambulance, he's dying," Raymond said coldly, glancing at Hubert behind him.
Hubert and the medical staff rushed over, putting a respirator on Marlon who was lying on the ground. A nurse inserted a long, thin needle into Marlon's blood-stained hand.
Marlon was hooked up to an IV and lifted onto a stretcher.
A group of nurses, in a flurry, lifted Marlon into the ambulance.
After Margaret and Nancy both got in the ambulance, Raymond seemed to be forgotten.
The ambulance sped away, leaving him standing alone at the Hughes Manor.
Raymond got into his car and followed the ambulance.
Inside the ambulance, Marlon slowly opened his eyes with the respirator on.
"Dad, we're going to the hospital now, hang in there!" Margaret said, her lips trembling, tears welling up in her eyes.
Marlon looked at Margaret beside him, then at Nancy on the other side.
He patted Margaret's hand and then looked at Nancy again.
Marlon felt his eyelids growing heavier, and the warmth in his body was gradually fading.
After looking longingly at his family, his eyelids grew heavy and finally closed.
The heart monitor, which had been showing slight fluctuations, suddenly started beeping alarmingly.
The heart monitor line turned into a flat, straight line, and Marlon's arm fell limply.
"Dad!" Margaret screamed.
Margaret quickly turned to Hubert behind her and said, "Mr. Diaz, save my dad."
"Don't worry, I'll do my best," Hubert said, moving Margaret and the crying Nancy aside, and began emergency procedures.
When the ambulance arrived at the hospital, Marlon was hurriedly taken into the operating room.
Margaret was flustered, pacing back and forth at the door of the operating room.
"Margaret, do you think your dad will be okay?" Nancy asked, covering her mouth, her eyes swollen from crying, tears streaming down her face.
"Mom, Dad will be fine. Mr. Diaz is very skilled," Margaret said, trying to comfort Nancy despite her own fear.
Raymond, dressed in a dark suit, walked down the hallway.
The surgery took a long time.
Margaret and Nancy waited there.
Raymond walked over and spoke to her, "You and Nancy should go eat, I'll stay here."
Margaret seemed not to hear, standing there with her back against the cold, hard wall.
"There's nothing you can do here. Go eat with your mom. I'll call you if anything happens," Raymond said again, thinking she hadn't heard him.
Nancy glared at Raymond, pushing him to the other end of the hallway, "Who told you to be here? How dare we let you stay? Marlon is like this because of you! Go, leave!"
Raymond's anger flared up instantly at her words.
How was it his fault? What had he done??
It was Margaret who invited him to the Hughes Manor for dinner, he was the one notified.
It was also Margaret and Nancy who insisted on going shopping, leaving him and Marlon alone. He felt wronged, he felt unjustly accused.
Raymond felt hurt deeply today because of their words.
Raymond didn't move, but he didn't fight back either, not because he didn't want to, but because he couldn't.
His face grew darker and darker.
Nancy cried even harder, looking particularly miserable and desolate in the hallway.
"Raymond, just go. Don't stay here," Margaret said wearily, looking at Raymond being pushed by Nancy.
Raymond stared at her, clenching his fists at his sides, "You don't believe me either?"
Margaret blinked her dry eyes. This question was profound and hard to answer.
She didn't want to waste her brainpower on these things anymore.
"Whether I believe you or not doesn't matter anymore. What matters is, I think my dad wouldn't want to see you when he comes out of the operating room," Margaret said softly, her voice light and weak.
Margaret sighed and pleaded, "Today is New Year's Eve, please, for the sake of I am still your wife, leave here. I only have my parents left. My dad is now in the operating room, his life hanging by a thread. I don't want my mom to happen something because of you."
Raymond's eyes narrowed. He didn't expect Margaret to say such heartless words.
His already wounded heart plunged into the abyss.
Raymond felt his heart shatter into pieces, and Margaret was hurting him with her words.
He must have been crazy to come here; he also had a temper.
He gave Margaret and Nancy a cold, indifferent look, "You don't need to push me, I'll leave on my own. Even if you beg me to come in the future, I won't."
With that, Raymond turned coldly and walked to the elevator.
At that moment, the elevator dinged and opened, Raymond stepped in, and the doors closed.
Nancy cried so hard she almost fell.
Margaret quickly supported her, "Mom, you should go home first. I'll stay here."
"I can't stop worrying about your dad," Nancy cried, "A perfectly good New Year's Eve, ruined like this. Raymond deserves to die."
Margaret looked at her worriedly, "I'll be fine here. If anything happens, I'll call you. Mom, go home and eat, then come back to see me. We'll take turns. We need to stay strong, or Dad will be sad when he sees us like this."
Nancy thought for a moment and nodded, "I'll go home and pack some clothes for your dad, then come back."
"Okay."
After Nancy left, Margaret sat on a bench, looking at her pale fingernails.
She prayed silently, hoping God would protect Marlon and help him through this ordeal.
If she had known this would happen today, she wouldn't have invited Raymond for dinner.
Margaret had spent the day shopping and worrying about Marlon's health.
She had only eaten breakfast.
Because she hadn't eaten on time, Margaret's stomach suddenly felt very hungry and painful.
She didn't leave the operating room because she wanted to stay with Marlon, just like when she was a child and Marlon stayed with her when she was sick.
Back then, Marlon was very busy, a famous entrepreneur.
When she had a cold and woke up, Marlon was always by her side.
Marlon had only one daughter, how could she not stay with him?
Three hours passed, and it was now 11:40 PM, leaving Margaret so hungry that she had lost all feeling.
The door to the operating room suddenly opened, and Margaret quickly stood up from the bench as Marlon was wheeled out, followed by a group of people, including Hubert.
"Mr. Diaz, how is my dad?" Margaret asked, suppressing her hunger, as she quickly ran up to Hubert.
