Chapter 167 Margaret Moved In with Someone Else

Alvin stood there, not saying a word for what felt like forever. Raymond, being the sharp guy he was, knew Alvin had more on his mind. So, she was shacking up with Daniel, all for the sake of the Taylor Family's illegitimate kid, dragging his child along too. Just thinking about that mess made Raymond's blood boil.

The tip from the netizen pointed to Silverwood. No wonder he couldn't find her; she never went back to Silverbrook.

That night, Raymond barely touched his dinner before hopping on a private jet to the rental house where Margaret was staying. Once he landed, Alvin picked him up.

They followed the GPS for a solid two hours. The black Bentley rolled down a narrow country road. On either side, green wheat seedlings stretched out, the cold moonlight giving them a faint golden glow. It felt like a surreal dream.

Raymond hadn't been eating or sleeping well since Margaret vanished. He had dark circles under his eyes, stubble growing wild, and no time to clean up. He was dead tired but had to stay sharp.

Thinking about seeing Margaret soon, his emotions were all over the place—excited to get her back but also super irritated. If he saw Margaret and Daniel being all cozy, he had no idea what he might do!

The car finally pulled up to a farmhouse. It was a small two-story place with a chicken coop in the yard. As soon as he stepped out, Raymond heard the hens clucking.

He frowned. He was used to this kind of setting, having grown up in it. But Margaret? She was a pampered princess who couldn't handle any rough living. How was she surviving here?

He looked around. The village was barely populated, with houses scattered and no signs of life. Raymond's frown deepened. He couldn't understand why Margaret left her comfortable life as Mrs. Howard to live in this poor village. He didn't know whether to call her devoted or foolish.

Alvin was on the phone, talking to the landlord. Soon enough, the rusty iron gate creaked open. A middle-aged woman, Brenda Green, peeked out. Alvin exchanged some small talk with her and then introduced Raymond.

She checked out Raymond, who was wearing a sharp coat and leather gloves. His eyes, behind his glasses, were as cold as ice. One cold look from him, and Brenda quickly looked away.

"Take us to her," Raymond said, not wasting any time.

Brenda looked a bit uneasy and gave a weak smile. "Now might not be the best time."

"Not convenient for you?" Alvin frowned at her.

She quickly waved her hand. "It's not me; it's the lady you're looking for. There's a man in her room."

Hearing this, Alvin glanced at Raymond, whose face turned stormy. Raymond asked, "What's his name?"

"I don't know. He never told me. But he's pretty generous, gave me tips a few times, and asked me to keep the lady's whereabouts a secret," Brenda said, thinking it over.

Alvin noticed Raymond's glance and quickly pulled up a photo on his phone, showing it to Brenda. "Is this the guy?"

Brenda took a look and nodded. "Yep, that's him. So you know each other."

Raymond let out a bitter laugh. On the way here, he had clung to a sliver of hope. He thought maybe he had it all wrong, and Margaret was here alone. But no, she was definitely with Daniel, and they were together now!

"Lead the way!" Raymond's face darkened.

Brenda turned and headed up the concrete stairs. The hallway was dim, with only a weak voice-activated light that barely did its job.

Every step Raymond took felt like a weight pressing down on his heart. It was suffocating. No wonder she cut off contact, no wonder she didn't care about Marlon anymore. Clearly, Daniel meant more to her than he did.

Raymond suddenly felt like a fool. She had been living it up here while he was lost and broken, watering her plants and feeding her parrot, unable to eat or sleep.

"They're in here," Brenda said, stopping at a door.

Alvin looked at Raymond, worried. "Mr. Howard, maybe we should come back tomorrow to find Mrs. Howard?" If they caught them in the act, Raymond and Margaret's relationship would be toast! Any guy who saw his wife with another man would lose it!

Raymond took a deep breath. He was actually scared to go in. Even more scared to knock on the door. He couldn't imagine what he'd do if he saw what he feared. He might break down on the spot. No way was he letting Margaret be with someone else!

Raymond wasn't one to kid himself. Things had come to this point. No matter what awaited him ahead, he had to see it with his own eyes.

Making up his mind, Raymond ordered in a low voice, "Knock on the door!"

Brenda admired his guts. Even though Margaret had cheated, he was still so calm. Brenda knocked on the door. The hallway was silent, no response.

"Ms. Hughes, are you awake? I need to talk to you," Brenda said with a smile. Still no response from inside.

Brenda looked at Raymond, unsure of what to do. Raymond's face was cold and stern, staring at the door as if he could see through it. He thought, 'Margaret, do you think you can avoid this by playing dead? You can't escape today! I want to see how you explain this to me!'

Raymond's eyes were icy as he said, "Get the key and open the door!"

"That might not be a good idea." Brenda hesitated.

Alvin pulled out a checkbook, wrote a check for a million dollars, tore it off, and handed it to her. "This is a million-dollar check. Can you open the door now?"

"Of course, you're so generous. I'll open the door right away." Brenda's eyes widened at the number of zeros on the check. She quickly pulled out a bunch of keys from her belt, found the right one, and inserted it into the lock.

Raymond felt the air around him getting thinner. Brenda quickly turned the key and pushed the old wooden door open.
