Chapter 129 Healing Her Scars
Margaret couldn't help but feel the irony in his words.
He called her his wife, but what kind of husband would humiliate and mock his own wife? Who would wish for his wife to die soon? He didn't want her as his wife, not even a little bit! When they were dating, he was always plotting against her, and he still was!
"Raymond, have you ever, even for a single day, truly treated me as your wife? Every day, you hate me and resent me!" Margaret sobbed, "Now that I'm of no use to you, why bother with these hypocritical words?"
Raymond's eyes narrowed; she actually thought his words were hypocritical.
But he didn't plan to explain. She was right; they were enemies, and he should despise her.
A trace of disdain flashed in his eyes as he let go of her neck and smirked. "Yeah, didn't you willingly make a deal with me? The more you refuse to have this child, the more I'll make sure you do!"
"Raymond, have you fallen for me?" Margaret gave a dazed smile. She didn't know if it had been the same for Raymond; a woman only bore a child for a man she deeply loved.
Raymond said, "You really should buy a mirror and take a good look at yourself! Margaret, I want you to have this child just to torment you!"
Hearing this, Margaret's tear-filled eyes widened, and she bit her lip hard.
So that's how it was. He didn't let her have an abortion just to torment her, to see her in pain. She almost thought he had fallen for her.
Margaret thought to herself, 'Margaret, you really are delusional. He wishes you would die immediately. A husband who loves you would only wish for you to live well!'
But Margaret was unwilling to accept this. Her current health condition was already terminal; it was impossible to have the child. Being pregnant would only lead to both her and the child in her womb meeting their demise. It would speed up her demise.
What if Raymond knew about her illness? Would he feel sorry for her? What would his reaction be?
Margaret felt a glimmer of hope in her heart.
She had to tell him this news! She couldn't delay any longer; only if he knew could she have an abortion!
Just as she was about to speak, Raymond's phone suddenly rang in his suit pocket.
He took out his phone and answered it right in front of her.
A woman's crying voice came through the phone. It was Sarah.
Sarah's crying was melodious and quickly aroused his sympathy. He frowned and spoke gently, "I'll be right there, just wait a moment."
His gentle voice and soft gaze used to belong to her! Now they were all taken by Sarah!
Raymond hung up the phone and was about to leave.
Margaret grabbed his sleeve and said in a pleading tone, "Raymond, you can't go;I have something to tell you."
"Margaret, stop making trouble!" He slapped her hand away.
Her hand hit the edge of the bedside table, causing her to gasp in pain. Raymond went to the dressing room, changed into a suit, and came out looking even more stern and dignified.
Margaret, unwilling to give up, blocked his way. "Raymond, I really have something important to tell you!"
"Margaret, I'll say this one last time, stop causing trouble! Whatever it is, wait until I get back!" Raymond pushed her shoulder aside and warned, "If you dare to secretly have an abortion again, I won't be kind to you."
With that, Raymond turned to leave.
Margaret watched his back, feeling unwilling. Raymond was her husband, yet he was leaving her for Sarah.
Margaret shouted at him, "Raymond, if you walk out that door, I won't tell you!"
Raymond said, "Suit yourself!"
His steps didn't stop at all. Indeed, Raymond's steps had never stopped for Margaret.
She was delusional to think he would choose her even once. How ridiculous!
Margaret slowly squatted down, tears blurring her vision as she heard the sound of the door slamming shut.
Margaret thought, 'Raymond, how can you be so heartless? You want me to have your child, but then you run off to Sarah!'
She continued to ponder, 'Raymond, can't you show me a little kindness? I don't have much time left. Is there no love remaining between us, only anguish and retribution?"
Raymond drove over to the Martinez Family villa. He strode into the villa with his long legs.
He saw Sarah lying by the stairs, her ankle all swollen and red. She had twisted it on purpose.
When she saw Raymond, her face lit up, and tears started falling down her cheeks.
He bent down, picked her up, placed her on the sofa, and took out some ointment to rub on her swollen ankle.
"Raymond, I'm so sorry. I wasn't careful and twisted my ankle. I don't have any friends here, so I had to trouble you. If I had known, I wouldn't have given the servants a holiday." Sarah bit her lip, looking all guilty.
Raymond replied in a gentle voice, "It's okay, no trouble at all. Just be more careful next time."
"Raymond, what's going on between you and Margaret? The child in her womb isn't Daniel's, is it? I heard Daniel say he has feelings for her." Sarah watched his face and then added, "But I believe in Margaret. The child must be yours. Daniel's just got a one-sided crush on her."
Raymond frowned and looked up at her, saying, "I believe in Margaret. She's not that kind of woman."
Sarah said, "Yeah, I believe that too. She used to like you so much. But it's strange she almost had a miscarriage after finally getting pregnant."
"If there's nothing else, I'll be leaving now." Raymond's expression shifted, and he stood up to go.
Sarah had worked hard to get him there, so she wasn't about to let him leave easily. She hugged his leg, her lips accidentally brushing against his hand. "Raymond, I'm scared. Can you stay with me? I'm worried you've fallen for Margaret and don't want to divorce her anymore. You promised to repay my financial support; you said you would marry me."
Raymond pried her fingers off his leg one by one, looking at her with displeasure, saying, "Sarah, I've already taken wedding photos with you, and I'm about to get divorced. Can't you wait a few more days? If you can't wait and feel insecure, it's okay to marry another man."
Sarah said, "Raymond, that's not what I meant. I've waited for you for so many years; I don't mind waiting a few more days. I'm just worried you'll change your mind. Can you stay with me for a while and leave after dinner?"
Raymond said, "Sorry, I haven't divorced yet, so I can't do anything inappropriate. Take care."
Raymond eventually left the Martinez Family villa.
He knew Margaret was mad because he went to see Sarah, so he wanted to get back home early. He was really worried about her being alone, especially since she was pregnant.
He drove back to the apartment and saw an old lady selling flowers; she had a basket of budding roses. She approached him, but he ignored her.
Just as he was about to go up the steps, the old lady ran up to him and said with a slight smile, "Sir,you don't look happy. Did you have a fight with your girlfriend? Buy my flowers to make up with her. Girls love romance, and a bouquet of flowers works better than anything."
Raymond's steps instantly halted.
The old lady continued, "My flowers are very fresh; they are grown by me. Sir, I'll sell them to you at a discount."
Inside the apartment.
Margaret was curled up in the corner of the sofa, hugging her knees, with a fluffy blanket covering her. As the footsteps grew clearer, she looked up and saw Raymond, expressionless, coming upstairs in his suit.
Her gaze fell on the bouquet of roses in his hand, and she was stunned. Were they for her?
