Chapter 149 Can I take the medicine now?

"Can you take your medicine now?" Raymond's voice was so cold it made Margaret's heart feel like ice.

So all that buildup was just to make her take these pills!

Margaret's heart hurt so much she could barely breathe. She reached out and touched the pills and capsules in his hand, then took them.

She took the glass of water he handed her and sipped a bit.

She shoved all the pills into her mouth and swallowed with another gulp of water.

"Swallow it!" Raymond frowned, noticing her hesitation. His eyes were full of threat.

Margaret knew if she didn't obey, he'd definitely use Marlon and the Hughes Family against her!

This was her fate, one she couldn't escape, so she had no choice but to comply.

Her throat tightened, and the pills slid down into her body.

Raymond, probably worried she'd throw up, stayed for another two hours before leaving.

Alvin called him several times for work, but he didn't budge.

"Just go. Since I agreed to your terms, I'll stick to the contract," Margaret mocked.

Raymond gave her a long look before finally leaving the living room and heading downstairs.

Mary, holding a small white plate, walked to the balcony to feed the parrot.

Margaret got up, opened the glass door, and asked Mary to give her the feed so she could do it.

After handing it over, Mary turned and left.

Margaret held the feed and looked at the lively parrot in the cage. "Say something!"

"Hello!" The parrot's eyes darted around, flapping its wings at Margaret.

Margaret smiled faintly. "You're so ungrateful. I give you food, and you talk! If I don't, you ignore me!"

"You're so ungrateful. I give you food, and you talk! If I don't, you ignore me!" It mimicked her in a drawn-out tone.

She placed the feed into the box and watched as it quickly lowered its head to eat.

Thinking about her deteriorating health and the limited days she had left, she was gloomy.

Her gaze followed the parrot's eating movements, constantly shifting. "Do you think Raymond would be sad if I died?"

"No! No!" The parrot preened its feathers and shouted.

Margaret's expression turned cold. Even it knew he wouldn't?

After feeding the parrot, she had just returned to the living room.

Her liver felt like it was being put through a meat grinder, causing her to break out in a cold sweat!

As a metallic taste filled Margaret's mouth suddenly, she quickly ran to the bathroom, locked the door, and knelt in front of the toilet, vomiting continuously.

Large amounts of fresh blood stained the entire toilet bowl!

Had she taken forbidden medication, causing the cancer cells to act up?

Margaret's face was pale, sweat pouring from her forehead, and she whimpered in pain.

Her fingers trembled as she pulled out a small, unmarked bottle from her pocket, struggled to open it, and poured half the pills into her mouth.

She swallowed them dry.

The bitterness filled her entire mouth.

After more than ten minutes, the pain was finally suppressed by the painkillers!

"Mrs. Howard, Mrs. Howard, are you okay?" A concerned voice came from outside the bathroom.

Margaret slumped to the floor and looked up to see Mary's shadow reflected on the bathroom door.

So, the only person who cared about her was Mary!

Seeing no response from Margaret, Mary picked up her phone and went to the balcony to call Raymond.

Raymond's phone didn't go through.

Mary had to call Alvin instead.

Alvin answered right away.

At the Hughes Group, in the conference room.

Raymond and Daniel had just signed a cooperation agreement, and Daniel was about to leave.

"Daniel, you're not getting any younger. Why don't you find a girlfriend? Isn't your family on your case?" Raymond suddenly asked.

Daniel turned back to see Raymond lazily leaning in his chair. He said with a mocking smile, "Since when did Mr. Howard care so much about me?"

Raymond said, "I'm mainly worried you'll be thinking about my wife."

Daniel said, "Mrs. Hughes isn't your property."

"She's still my wife now! And she'll always be my wife! Daniel, do you know how much Margaret loves me? She'd throw away her dignity for me! Do you think you can compete with me?" Raymond said with a sneer.

Daniel didn't get angry. His amber eyes carried a complex look. "Mr. Howard, as your business partner, I kindly advise you to cherish her. Do not wait until you have completely lost her to feel regret.“

"What do you mean?" Raymond's expression changed.

Daniel said with a sneer, "Exactly what I said."

With that, he turned and left.

Raymond, furious, punched his desk, his hand throbbing with pain.

He irritably tugged at his tie.

What did Daniel mean by that?

Had he not given up on Margaret?

Margaret had nothing back then—she was utterly ordinary without money or looks.

How could she attract Daniel's attention?

Alvin cautiously walked in and handed him a cup of coffee. "Mr. Howard, calm down."

Raymond took it and placed it on the desk.

"Mary said she tried calling you but couldn't get through, so she contacted me. She said Mrs. Howard is in a bad state."

Raymond asked, "What's wrong with her now?"

"Mrs. Howard's mood seems off. She's locked herself in the bathroom again, crying secretly."

Hearing this, Raymond's hand, which was about to take out a cigarette, froze.

She was crying again? Was she so upset about taking medicine that was good for the baby?

"Mr. Howard, I think Mrs. Howard has something bothering her. Why don't you take her on a trip?"

Raymond was confused, "A trip?"

"Yes, girls love to travel. Seeing new places might lift her spirits, and she might be less resistant to having a baby. Mr. Howard, sometimes you need to learn to coax your wife!"

"Are you teaching me how to do things?" Raymond's cold gaze shot over.

Alvin, frightened by his look, realized he had misspoken.

He quickly said, "I wouldn't dare."

Speaking of travel, Raymond remembered that Margaret did love to travel.

When they first started dating, she always dragged him to go hiking, to different places, to experience different cultures.

They took countless couple photos; he wondered if she still kept them.

The most memorable place was a small town called Silverwood, where they had spent a particularly wonderful time. She had taken photos there and even made crafts with him.

Yes, a trip might just bring them back to the way things were! And after the trip, Margaret might be less resistant to having a baby!

Thinking of this, Raymond asked Alvin to book tickets to Silverwood for the next day.

That night, Raymond returned to the apartment and saw Margaret leaning on the sofa, a thin blanket over her knees, staring blankly.

Even when he stood in front of her, she didn't react much.

Raymond said, "I'm packing your things. We're going to Silverwood tomorrow for a trip."
