Chapter 545 Suddenly Became the President's Secretary
"Come on, Lyric, this guy's perfect for you. The priest said you two are meant to be together. No matter what, you and the guy you're into now will eventually break up," Remy insisted over the phone, trying to convince Lyric to go on a blind date.
Lyric held her phone and asked, "You haven't even met him, and you're already vouching for him?"
"I've seen his picture. He looks really nice. You two would make a great couple. I'll send it to you, and you'll see."
"Forget it. Just set it up, and I'll meet him directly. Mom, I'm telling you, don't trust photos too much. Filters can be super fake. Meeting in person is what matters."
"Lyric, that's awesome! You're finally willing to meet him. I'll call you once I set up the time."
After brushing off Remy, Lyric sighed.
"You were just so confident about bouncing back after falling. How come one phone call made you so down?" her friend teased.
Lyric thought about Remy's words, and felt utterly dejected at the thought of being destined to be with her blind date.
"Do you believe in destiny?"
"What?"
"My mom says the guy she found for me is destined to be my husband. Does that mean Daniel and I are really not meant to be?" Lyric murmured.
"Lyric, that's just superstition. Remember what you said earlier. Cheer up, your true love is still out there, racing towards you."
Yeah, when she fell, she had to get back up.
She shouldn't overthink it.
It would pass.
Maybe to prove a point, or maybe to not let Daniel look down on her.
The next morning, Lyric put on a new dress.
The dress was fitted at the waist, a creamy white color, and fell just below her knees.
She paired it with a pair of bright red heels.
She took off her black-framed glasses and tossed them in the trash.
She pulled out her high ponytail, throwing the hair tie into the trash as well.
Her long hair flowed freely.
She didn't have a fancy car, so she still rode her electric bike to work.
Today, by chance, she didn't run into Daniel.
As she left, she noticed the walls of The Taylor Villa were covered in blooming roses.
The roses were vibrant and in full bloom, their scent filling the air with every breeze.
She took a deep breath, feeling refreshed.
But she didn't like roses; she preferred lavender. Her family had a field full of lavender, an endless sea of purple, incredibly romantic.
Soon, she arrived at The Taylor Group building.
She parked her electric bike.
She took off her yellow helmet, placed it on the bike, locked it with her key, and then, in her red heels, walked towards the steps of The Taylor Group.
Her transformation was so striking that her colleagues gasped, "Is that you, Della?"
She smiled and nodded.
"We almost didn't recognize you. You're so beautiful! Why didn't you dress like this sooner? Girls should always look their best."
Lyric smiled. She had deliberately dressed down before, trying to be low-key and relatable.
Maybe she misunderstood what being relatable meant, and it backfired.
She wondered if Daniel would be stunned and slightly shocked to see her like this.
The girl he thought couldn't dress well was now standing in front of him in a beautiful dress and delicate heels, looking stunning.
Lyric walked confidently towards the elevator, ignoring the surprised and envious looks from her colleagues.
At the elevator, she saw a familiar figure.
She pressed her lips together.
Daniel and Walter were waiting for the elevator.
She felt a bit nervous. Despite his cold demeanor, seeing him still made her heart race.
She gathered her courage, put on a confident smile, and walked over quickly.
Walter heard the sound of heels clicking on the floor and turned around casually.
When he saw Lyric, he stammered, unsure, "Is that you?"
"Walter, it's me, Della. Don't you recognize me?" Lyric smiled gracefully.
Walter frowned, "You're Lyric?"
His exclamation made Daniel, who had his back to Lyric, turn around.
He looked up and saw her.
The creamy white dress was simple yet elegant. The hem revealed a bit of her calves, and she wore red heels.
The black-framed glasses were gone.
The high ponytail was gone, replaced by flowing hair.
The student-like vibe was gone. Della seemed to have matured overnight, like a ripened peach.
She had become a woman.
More importantly, he saw a hint of Margaret in her.
Margaret also loved wearing that brand and style of clothing.
Daniel felt like he saw Margaret smiling elegantly at him, greeting him.
"Margaret—" Daniel murmured to Della, his eyes softening with emotion.
Lyric met his gaze briefly, noticing his shock and the change in his expression.
But she was still angry.
She didn't want to acknowledge him.
He said he didn't like her mom, and now he was looking at her with such deep emotion. What was that supposed to mean?
Lyric looked away first.
At that moment, the employee elevator doors opened.
Without looking back, Lyric stepped into the elevator.
She pressed the floor button, and the doors quickly closed.
She noticed Daniel's gaze was still on her.
Men really were visual creatures.
Daniel's stare was so intense that he didn't even notice the CEO's private elevator opening.
Walter had to remind him.
He regained his composure and walked in with long strides.
"Mr. Taylor, that wasn't Ms. Hughes. That was Della from the marketing department," Walter said in a low voice as he pressed the button for the executive floor.
So it was Della.
He must have been seeing things.
He looked at Walter, "Did you notice she looks a bit like Ms. Hughes?"
They didn't really look alike, but Walter went along with Daniel, "Yes, especially with that outfit. It made her look even more like her."
Walter was good at his job.
The first thing he did after getting off the elevator was transfer Della from the marketing department to the executive office. Without telling Daniel, he made Della the chief secretary.
Now, her daily work involved interacting with Daniel.
Lyric didn't expect Daniel to become her boss so quickly.
