Chapter 201 How Could She Be So Ungrateful
Margaret felt completely shattered and thought, 'My life matters. Why doesn't he care about my feelings and just acts so recklessly?' She tossed the orange she was holding into the trash.
Raymond's grip tightened around his own orange. How could she be so ungrateful? Raymond was already trying to make peace, already giving in.
But thinking about the baby in her belly, Raymond swallowed his anger and said, "Marlon's back in treatment. Margaret, how long are you gonna keep this up?"
So, to Raymond, Margaret was just a troublemaker. Margaret felt utterly heartbroken, staring at her pale fingernails. Her body was already so weak.
She lowered her head and stayed silent. Raymond thought she had finally given up her stubbornness and said softly, "I can forgive your willfulness this time, but you have to give birth to the baby."
Margaret sneered. She had told him so many times, the baby was already gone. Was he suffering from amnesia or just playing dumb?
"The baby's long gone. Mr. Howard, have you lost your memory?" Margaret leaned tiredly against the pillow.
Raymond looked at her and said, "Mr. Diaz said you're pregnant again."
Margaret looked up, shocked. She blinked her dry eyes. She had just had an abortion, and now she was pregnant again! Her body was so weak, yet she could still get pregnant over and over. Was this her fate? Was she destined to die with a baby in her belly?
No wonder Raymond resumed Marlon's treatment, no wonder he was being so kind to her. He had found a new way to torture her. But Margaret had a terminal illness, how could she give birth to this baby?
"I meant what I said. Give birth to her, and I'll raise her. I'll also help the Hughes Family and take care of your parents. Once we divorce, we'll go our separate ways. You can run away with Daniel." Raymond's voice was cold. After saying that, he turned to leave.
Margaret, unwilling to give up, called out, "Raymond! What if I told you I have cancer and can't be pregnant?"
Raymond, with his back to her, felt a surge of irritation and impatience. When Raymond had already been so generous, did she still treat him like a fool? Did Margaret have to make him debunk her clumsy lies over and over again?
Raymond suppressed his anger and slowly turned around. The setting sun outside the window fell on his broad shoulders, devoid of any warmth.
"You have cancer? Why don't you say you're gonna die in a few days?" Raymond sneered.
Margaret blinked and thought to herself, 'Did he know everything?'
"What if I can't even make it to the New Year? Raymond, would you still make me pregnant? Would you still make me give birth to this baby?" Margaret bit her lip, staring at him intently.
Margaret thought he would say something to comfort her for the sake of their marriage. But he just gave a cold smile, not caring about her life or death at all, saying, "You never wanted to live, did you?"
"Raymond, you mean that even if I really have cancer, even if I really can't make it to the New Year, even if I really die with the baby in my belly, this baby must be born, right?" Margaret's tone was very light, very slow. Afraid of misunderstanding his meaning, she repeated his words.
Raymond didn't believe she was sick at all, just thought Margaret at this moment was too pretentious, speaking without thinking, "As long as you know. Didn't you say you would follow the contract? You would make me happy? Then prove it with your actions."
Prove it with her actions? Raymond was practically pushing her to her death. Margaret suddenly felt incredibly foolish. She had asked countless times, clinging to a foolish hope, still entangled, still questioning him over and over. But with the same book, no matter how many times one read it, the ending was always the same. The ending for her and Raymond was the same.
"I don't want to hear such boring questions again in the future," Raymond said impatiently as he walked out.
Margaret bit her lip. They were dry, chapped, and cracked. Her lips hurt a lot, but she couldn't feel the pain anymore; she was completely numb. Blood droplets oozed from her lips.
Margaret's life and death, in his eyes, were just boring questions. In the future, she wouldn't ask again. Margaret didn't want to resist anymore because she had tried countless times to fight against fate, but it was all useless.
No matter how things developed, no matter how many twists and turns, she would always be brought back to her original state by fate.
Margaret felt like a tiny ant, unable to escape Raymond's grasp. Yes, Margaret was already like this. Since she couldn't change it, she might as well try to accept it.
If Margaret's and the child's death could bring peace to the Hughes Family and let her parents enjoy their old age, she wouldn't have any regrets.
But Margaret's sleep was getting worse and worse. She had no appetite for food. This pregnancy was very different from the last one.
Margaret often had morning sickness, ate little, and vomited a lot. Many times, she vomited bile mixed with blood, staining most of the toilet bowl. But she didn't tell Raymond. She didn't want to humiliate herself anymore.
Every day, Alvin would bring her nutritious meals, and she would just take a few bites. This continued until Raymond came, as Hubert said she was too thin, which was bad for the child's development. When it came to the child, he always came quickly.
Raymond thought she was deliberately throwing a tantrum, saying in a harsh tone, "I've given you so many benefits, and I didn't hold you accountable for the abortion, yet you're still throwing a tantrum?"
Margaret suddenly wanted to explain, it wasn't her who aborted the child, it was his lover Sarah who tried to kill her, she fell into the river and had a miscarriage.
But Margaret remembered when she got Ashley's recording pen to expose Sarah, he directly stomped on the pen, declaring that he would always side with Sarah over her.
Since Margaret knew the outcome, there was no need to say more. Margaret hesitated, then swallowed her words.
"Margaret, please have some contractual spirit. Didn't you agree to follow the contract? If you dare to abort the child again, you'll regret it." Raymond frowned.
Another threat. Margaret was used to it, but she felt very uncomfortable inside. She held the nutritious meal in her hands, not eating.
Raymond said, "Finish it, and after you recover, I'll take you to see Marlon."
Margaret finally reacted, he would take her to see Marlon? Margaret hadn't seen Marlon for a long time.
He added, "If you dare not eat, dare to throw a tantrum, and don't take care of the baby, I'll make sure you never see him again! Margaret, I mean what I say! Don't test my patience!"
Raymond's words were cold and heartless, but seeing her wolfing down the food, a trace of pity flashed in his eyes. He wanted to tell her to slow down, no one was going to take the food from her, but thinking that talking nicely to her was useless, he swallowed his comforting words.
