Chapter 337 You Have Been Plotting Against Margaret for a Long Time, Haven't You?

"Alvin, get outta the way."

Raymond's voice was ice cold.

Alvin clenched his jaw, turned around, and looked at Raymond sitting on the ground. "If you keep this up, someone’s gonna get killed."

"You're ignoring me now?" Raymond sneered.

Alvin hesitated but eventually stepped aside. He bent down and helped Raymond up.

Raymond tasted blood in his mouth and wiped the sticky liquid from the corner of his lips with his rough fingertips.

He glanced at his blood-stained fingers.

This was a real fight to the death. Daniel really cared about Margaret.

Raymond could tell Daniel was trying to save Margaret.

Thinking that Margaret might be saved, Raymond let out a soft laugh.

"What’s so funny?" Daniel squinted.

A cold wind suddenly picked up.

It blew the hem of Raymond's black coat.

His shirt underneath was just as dark and somber.

Even with blood on his lips, Raymond's demeanor remained dignified, like a fallen aristocrat.

Step by step, he walked toward Daniel.

"Had enough?"

Thinking about everything Margaret had been through, Daniel's anger flared up again.

His fist landed on the side of Raymond's face.

Raymond hit the ground, small stones scraping his bony fingers, making him gasp in pain.

He gathered his strength and slowly stood up, staring at Daniel. "I'll give you the chance to hit me, but you have to help me save her. If you want to hit me, do it quick, or you'll miss your chance."

"Raymond, you bastard." Daniel punched him to the ground again.

This time, Raymond's forehead hit the ground, scraping off a layer of skin. Blood slowly trickled down his handsome features.

"I'm a bastard. You told me twice that Margaret had liver cancer. I refused to believe it. Margaret's situation today is partly my fault." Raymond forced a bitter smile.

Raymond looked at Daniel. "Now I want to make it up to her, to treat her well. Daniel, I know you'll save her, won't you?"

"You're still so arrogant."

"We're both men. I can see from your eyes that you care about her."

Daniel's pupils tightened suddenly.

His lips twitched.

Raymond's smile was bitter. "You don't want the woman you care about to die, do you? We both want her to get better and live a good life. In a way, we have the same goal."

"Daniel, if you help convince Mr. Jones to save her, I'll agree to any condition you have. The Taylor Group and The Hughes Group will become the strongest partners."

"Any condition?" Daniel scoffed.

Raymond thought he was relenting, his eyes lighting up. "Yes."

"I don't care about a deep partnership with The Hughes Group. That's not what interests me."

"Then what are you interested in? Just say it, and if I can give it to you, I will." Raymond said.

Daniel squinted, smiling with interest. "I want Margaret."

Raymond's face changed slightly. "What did you say?"

"You heard me right. I said I want Margaret. If you can't give her a better life, why not let me?"

"Impossible."

"Didn't you say you'd give me anything I wanted?"

"Anything but that. Shares in The Hughes Group, money, assets, my entire fortune—I'll give it all to you."

"Raymond, I'm not interested in anything but Margaret."

"You've been planning this for a while, haven't you?" Raymond stared at Daniel.

Daniel was straightforward, smiling slightly. "Only I can convince Mr. Jones. I saved his life. Raymond, loving someone means learning to let go. You and her together are just mutual torment. Let her go, and maybe she'll be better off."

"Mr. Howard, I've said my piece. Think it over. Stop following me. You're the president of The Hughes Group, trailing me, a nobody. It's quite embarrassing." Daniel finished, walked back to his motorcycle, put on his helmet, and twisted the handle.

The motorcycle sped away, leaving a cloud of smoke.

"Mr. Howard, are you okay?" Alvin asked anxiously, looking at Raymond staring into the distance.

Raymond shook his head, said nothing, and walked toward the Maserati.

Alvin ran ahead and opened the car door. Raymond got in.

First, they went to the hospital to bandage the wound on his forehead. The doctor gave Raymond instructions, like not letting the wound get wet while showering.

The doctor suggested Raymond stay for observation for a few days.

Raymond's forehead injury looked serious.

But Raymond insisted on a simple bandage, saying he'd come back in a few days to change it.

Because Margaret said she missed him.

She had something to tell him.

He needed to get back quickly.

Near the hospital, there was a luxury store that sold watches.

Margaret had bought him a watch from there.

Raymond handed the broken watch to the store manager, telling him to spare no expense in fixing it.

Money was not an issue.

The manager assured him it would be fixed and they'd call him when it was ready.

On the way back to Everpeak Mountain City.

They passed the university town where Raymond and Margaret had studied.

He saw a long line at a snack stand.

Margaret loved junk food when she was in college. She'd spend an entire afternoon waiting in line to buy a dollar's worth of fried mushrooms.

Maybe she was born into wealth and hadn't tasted such cheap yet delicious food.

Back then, Raymond was focused on starting a business, changing his fate. He spent his days in the library or busy getting certifications, working hard for his future. He couldn't empathize with someone as wealthy as Margaret.

Margaret would complain, "Raymond, you're a terrible boyfriend. Other boyfriends help their girlfriends wait in line, but you only care about getting certifications and staying in the library. Aren't you afraid that if you don't spend time with your girlfriend, someone else will steal her away?"

Thinking about the past, Raymond's heart ached, like being stung by a bee.

"Stop the car." Alvin was driving when he heard Raymond's command.

After the car was parked, Raymond was about to open the door when Alvin asked, "Mr. Howard, if you need to buy something, I can go for you."

"No need. Just wait in the car." Raymond said coldly, pushing open the door and stepping out.

The door closed.

Alvin watched as Raymond crossed the street and joined the long line at the snack stand.

He was surprised. It seemed like Raymond had changed.

Before, Raymond spent his time on important matters. He wouldn't buy snacks.

Margaret had made Mr. Howard more down-to-earth.
