Chapter 355: Reviving You to Continue Torturing, That's What Makes It Interesting
"What are you looking at?" Raymond asked, noticing Margaret's odd behavior and sounding genuinely concerned.
Margaret snapped out of her daze, her curled eyelashes fluttering for a moment.
When she didn't respond, Raymond glanced at her phone screen.
But Margaret's phone had a privacy screen, so he couldn't see anything clearly.
He moved closer, curious about what she was looking at.
Margaret abruptly turned off her phone, the screen going dark instantly.
She looked up, her eyes filled with unfamiliarity as she stared at Raymond.
He still looked as handsome as when they first met, having shed his youthful awkwardness. The gold-rimmed glasses on his nose made him appear cultured and refined.
Only she knew how rotten he was inside, despite his proper exterior.
She had known for a long time that the day she was diagnosed with late-stage liver cancer was the same day they were supposed to take their wedding photos.
Sarah had even sent her a provocative photo, asking about Raymond's size so she could buy condoms for sex.
Margaret knew everything.
But seeing the finished wedding photos still made her uncontrollably angry and amused.
She was desperately trying to restrain herself because she knew she had no right to be jealous, to question, or to demand an explanation from Raymond.
They were divorced.
Divorce meant they were no longer connected.
Raymond sensed something was off in her gaze. "Why are you looking at me like that?"
"And how should I look at you?" Margaret sneered, mocking him. "Should I look at you with admiration, Raymond? Sorry, I can't. I'm not that pathetic."
Raymond was confused but could tell there was a sharp edge to her words. He softened his tone. "What's wrong? What were you looking at? Let me see."
He guessed that Margaret's mood had changed after looking at her phone.
What kind of message had she received?
"You don't know what's wrong?"
"I haven't seen it, so how would I know? Let me take a look?" Raymond frowned, genuinely concerned.
He felt Margaret was facing some issue.
If she was willing, he could help solve it.
Margaret bit her lip, hesitating.
When she saw those photos and the provocative messages, she wanted to throw them in Raymond's face, to show him what kind of person Sarah was.
But then she thought.
Even if she showed him the contents of her phone, would he stand by her? When they were still married, she told him she had a terminal illness and couldn't get pregnant, that Sarah was the one who killed Ashley...
She had brought a recording to him, but he didn't even want to listen. He stomped on the recorder in front of her and warned her not to provoke Sarah.
Between her and Sarah, he would always protect Sarah.
He had always been like that. When Sarah tried to kill her in Silverwood but failed, Sarah blamed her depression on Margaret, and Raymond, without discerning the truth, forced her to apologize to Sarah.
She had seen too many intimate moments between Sarah and Raymond.
Last time she brought soup to Raymond, he was in Sarah's hospital room.
"Raymond, if I asked you to fulfill your promise, if I said I wanted to marry you and be your wife, would you agree?"
Sarah boldly confessed, seeking a title.
Then she kissed Raymond, and he didn't push her away.
Thinking about these heavy, rotten matters still made Margaret's heart cold and her limbs numb.
Raymond was truly devoted, blind to this extent.
"Margaret, what are you thinking? I'm talking to you," Raymond's hoarse voice echoed again.
Margaret snapped back to reality, blinking her dry eyes.
Should she tell him about this? No way. Telling him would be like tearing open her wound for him to see. He had said he would always stand by Sarah. She couldn't be foolish, even though she wanted Raymond's help. Before the divorce, he didn't stand by her. After the divorce, it was even less likely.
Margaret, wake up, her inner voice kept shouting, reminding her.
"Margaret—" Raymond waved his large hand in front of her.
Margaret scoffed. "No need."
The car arrived at the hospital entrance. Alvin opened the car door. Raymond wanted to help her out of the car. She shook off his hand, as if disgusted, then got out without looking back and entered the hospital.
Raymond didn't know what she was angry about but still followed her.
The elevator ascended continuously, Margaret's eyes fixed on the jumping red numbers. Her face was pale, her hands tightly crossed. She didn't even glance at Raymond.
"Did I make you angry?"
The elevator door opened, and Margaret glared at him. "You're not worth my anger."
Then she walked out of the elevator.
Raymond was stunned, his eyes flashing with disappointment, his hands clenched into fists. He wasn't worth Margaret's anger, but who was? Probably Daniel. How ironic. Margaret, who once had eyes only for him, now wouldn't even look at him. But what could he do? They were divorced, and he had agreed to let Margaret go.
Raymond shook his head and walked out of the elevator.
Margaret returned to her room, saw Raymond following, and turned impatiently. "Stop following me. Seeing you is annoying."
She pulled off her black coat and threw it at him. Then she closed the door.
Raymond's steps halted instantly. She didn't want to see him.
Margaret had just returned to her room. Her phone suddenly rang. Without looking at the caller ID, she answered. "Hello—"
"Margaret, are you feeling better? You sound pretty strong, so you must be recovering well?" Sarah laughed on the other end.
Margaret responded with disgust. "Are you sick?"
"Thanks to you, I'm very healthy. You're the one who's sick."
"Did you see the wedding photos of Raymond and me? Do you have any thoughts? The photo studio asked me to choose, but I don't know which one to pick. Margaret, you should know Raymond's taste well. Why don't you help us choose? He'll definitely be satisfied with your choice."
Margaret laughed in anger. "I've seen shameless people, but you're the most shameless I've ever seen."
"No choice, it's all because of life. I think I need to be even more shameless, or why haven't you divorced yet? You don't think Raymond stopped working, left The Hughes Group behind, and stayed with you in that rundown place at Everpeak Mountain for your treatment because he's still in love with you, do you? No, he told me he thinks your parents dying wasn't enough. If you died, the game wouldn't be fun anymore."
"Saving you and then torturing you like before, making you kneel at The Hughes Group or work as a janitor. That's more interesting. Raymond will only love me. My dedication to him is no less than yours, Margaret."
Sarah's words were like a machine gun, relentlessly attacking her weak spots. Margaret felt her limbs go cold and hung up in anger.
As soon as she hung up, her phone received a pregnancy test result and a miscarriage report.
