Chapter 321 The Watch Margaret Gave Raymond Broke

The empty hallway had only Raymond standing there.

He felt an inexplicable panic, and his eyelids kept twitching uncontrollably.

He felt that something had happened.

Raymond was still in his black coat, and black trousers, with some dust sticking to the knees of his pants.

He was usually a very clean person, almost to the point of being a germaphobe.

His clothes were still wet from being soaked in the lake, sticking to his body uncomfortably.

Alvin walked over and saw Raymond taking out a pack of cigarettes from his bag. Alvin said worriedly, "Mr. Howard, why don't you go change your clothes first? Even though it's early spring, it's still quite cold. It wouldn't be good to catch a cold."

"I won't go anywhere until Margaret's medical report comes out," Raymond said with a cold expression, glancing at Alvin. "You go to the lab and make sure the report is accurate, and bring it to me personally."

With those words, even a fool could understand Raymond's meaning. He suspected that Margaret's previous medical report had issues.

Alvin nodded, "I'll go keep an eye on it right away, Mr. Howard, don't worry."

After he left, the hallway was empty again, leaving only Raymond.

He put the cigarette between his thin lips.

Only then did he realize that the cigarette had been soaked by the lake water.

The lighter in his coat pocket was also nowhere to be found.

A wave of frustration rose from his heart. He took the wet cigarette, broke it, and threw it into the trash can beside him without hesitation.

Raymond didn't know why, but his hands were trembling uncontrollably.

It felt like something bad was going to happen.

This feeling was getting stronger and stronger.

More than ten years ago, their house was burned to the ground by Percy. On the night of the incident, he also felt a sense of panic.

Then his parents perished in the fire, and he watched Sandra get killed by Percy, falling right in front of him.

He hid under the bed, watching Sandra's eyes wide open, with bright red blood continuously flowing from the corner of her lips.

Just like how Margaret was bleeding today, so he was scared!

More than ten years had passed, and he thought he had gotten used to being an orphan, used to being alone.

But now he realized that wasn't the case. Before meeting Margaret, his heart was dead.

After spending so much time with Margaret, being loved and cherished by her, his heart unknowingly came back to life.

Even for revenge, he never thought he would lose Margaret.

In his life plan, revenge and having Margaret were two completely non-conflicting things.

But now he had avenged himself, Marlon was dead, and he didn't even have to do it himself, preserving his image in Margaret's eyes.

Yet he was inexplicably scared, as if things were developing beyond his control.

Just like earlier in the car, Margaret was vomiting blood uncontrollably.

He couldn't stop the bleeding no matter what.

After half an hour of waiting, which felt interminable, Raymond leaned against the cold wall, simply biding his time.

He raised his wrist to look at his watch.

Only then did he realize that the second hand of the watch had stopped, it was broken.

After falling off a cliff and being soaked in the lake for so long, how could it not be broken?

This watch was a wedding gift from Margaret.

She bought it for him with half a year's allowance, it was very expensive.

At the time, he thought it was too expensive and didn't want to accept it. He thought it was always men who gave women gifts, not the other way around.

Back then, he was just a junior employee at the Hughes Group. Besides being Margaret's husband, he had no money at all, and he couldn't afford the purses and clothes Margaret liked.

But Margaret still put the watch on his wrist, shyly saying, "What's mine is yours. We're getting married, I'm already yours, let alone just a watch. Raymond, I gave you this with a bit of selfishness."

"What?" Raymond asked.

Margaret said, "Since you joined the Hughes Group, you've been so busy. You don't have time to go shopping with me. You leave early and come back late every day. When I wake up in the morning, you're gone. When I fall asleep, you come back."

"Regret letting your dad bring me into the Hughes Group?" Raymond asked with a smile.

Margaret said seriously, "Not at all. I know you have great ambitions, and I support whatever you do. Work hard and show those who look down on you and don't approve of our marriage. I can't help you with your work, but I want to feel involved, to be with you, so I gave you this watch. When you're tired from work, drink the coffee I picked for you and look at the watch I gave you to check the time. That way, you'll think of me all the time."

Thinking of the past, the hard lines of Raymond's face gradually softened.

Since Margaret put the watch on him, he had never taken it off.

Even when he wanted to divorce her and treated her coldly, forcing her to take that step, everything continued as usual—until this time, when it finally broke.

Just like their marriage, their relationship, it was completely broken.

Raymond lowered his eyelids, took off the broken watch, and put it in his coat pocket.

He would get it fixed when he got back.

He cherished everything Margaret gave him, including clothes, shoes, and socks, he wore them for a long time and couldn't bear to throw them away.

He used to think that he didn't throw them away to remind himself not to soften his heart towards Margaret.

Seeing the things she bought for him, he would remember the hatred between them.

But now, he realized that wasn't the case.

He had feelings for Margaret.

If it weren't for Evelyn kidnapping Margaret, and the danger they went through together, he wouldn't have realized his true feelings so quickly.

Actually, he didn't want much, just Margaret and their child, that was all.

But even such an ordinary wish couldn't come true.

Thinking of this, Raymond frowned again.

His heart felt unbearably heavy.

'Hasn't half an hour passed yet? Why does it feel so long?' Raymond thought.

He felt his heart aching to the point of numbness.

He comforted himself again, Margaret was so young, and he had Mary taking care of her daily needs, how could something go wrong?

Anyone could have problems, but not Margaret.

Besides, Rufus just said it might be a misdiagnosis.

Thinking this, Raymond felt a brief moment of relief.

"Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard's medical report is out," Alvin's voice echoed in the empty hallway.

His heart tightened, but his face remained expressionless.

He looked up to see Alvin handing over a few sheets of paper.

He reached out to take them.

Alvin pulled the papers back slightly, his eyes complicated, his mouth twitching, "Mr. Howard, Mrs. Howard's condition is not very good. Are you sure you want to see it?"
