Chapter 546 What a Coincidence, I Also Don't Like Older Men

When Lyric found out she was being transferred to be Daniel's chief secretary, she felt a mix of surprise and shock, but some of her discontent also faded.

Maybe Daniel wasn't so bad after all. He might say he didn't like her, but secretly, he had her transferred to work closely with him. He never said he loved her, but he showed he cared in his actions—like giving her a raise and making her his chief secretary.

Lyric didn't know what had gotten into her. She was scrutinizing Daniel's actions with a magnifying glass, looking for signs that he cared about her. The more she looked, the more flustered she became.

But she wasn't planning to forgive him so quickly. After all, he was still a visual creature. He must have noticed her new look and thought she was attractive, which was why his attitude had changed.

Walter sent her a detailed digital list of Daniel's preferences to help her understand him better.

Daniel liked hand-ground coffee, so she ground the coffee beans finely and brought the freshly brewed coffee to his side.

Lyric had imagined a thousand different reactions from him, but she hadn't expected this one.

He looked up at her, his eyes narrowing slightly. He glanced at her name badge, which had changed from "Marketing Intern" to "Chief Secretary."

It was obvious who was behind this.

That Walter really knew how to get things done.

"Walter transferred you here?" he asked her.

She felt a bit awkward. She was just an intern; did she have any say in who transferred her? From his expression, it was clear that Walter had made this decision on his own.

"It seems Mr. Taylor wasn't aware of this. I should probably go back to the marketing department."

"Forget it. You're here now. Go prepare the materials for the upcoming meeting."

Lyric forced a smile, said "Okay," and turned to leave.

But then he unexpectedly said, "That outfit suits you. You look beautiful."

She didn't turn back, just politely replied, "Thank you, Mr. Taylor."

Watching her walk away, Daniel noticed that Della seemed different. She didn't even look at him when she brought him coffee.

She was distant, maintaining a professional distance.

During the meeting, she handed out materials to everyone with a bright smile, except for him. She avoided his gaze and kept a neutral expression.

When she handed him the materials, her slender fingers accidentally brushed against his hand. Before he could say anything, she quickly pulled her hand back and apologized, "Sorry, Mr. Taylor, it wasn't intentional."

Throughout the meeting, Daniel's eyes were on Lyric. Her outfit was very professional—a white blouse with a few buttons undone, revealing her delicate collarbone, and a black pencil skirt that highlighted her figure.

Her long hair cascaded over her shoulders.

She stood in front of the projector, presenting the project information clearly and concisely, sharing her insights. She was just a 21-year-old fresh out of school, but she impressed Daniel with her quick thinking and excellent memory.

She had received the materials only half an hour before the meeting, yet she had grasped the key points and presented them in her own words, offering professional suggestions.

Most interns would be nervous in such a setting, but her confidence and positivity made Daniel feel like she was a shining sun, not a girl from a poor background.

This innate quality made her seem like a princess, not a Cinderella.

Daniel crossed his arms, his gaze fixed on her. He didn't know how much hardship lay behind this captivating Della.

He only knew it couldn't have been easy. Just like him, a diamond in the rough, mocked by others. If it weren't for Margaret's help, he wouldn't be where he was now.

The meeting ended with several rounds of applause.

Everyone was talking about and praising Daniel's new secretary, saying she was highly capable and had a bright future.

Hearing his subordinate praised so highly, Daniel couldn't help but smile. Della had done well, bringing him pride.

After the meeting, it was lunchtime.

Daniel looked at Lyric, who was following him, and then told Walter, "Prepare lunch for Ms. Vaughn as well. Bring it to my office."

"Get it," Walter replied, unfazed.

Daniel had always taken care of this girl, but how much of it was because she was a stand-in, Walter couldn't say.

Lyric, however, refused. "No need. I'll order takeout."

Daniel's expression changed slightly, feeling a bit awkward at her refusal.

Walter quickly spoke up for Daniel, "Ms. Vaughn, Mr. Taylor is just trying to save you some money. Don't upset him."

"Really, it's fine. I'm just a secretary. How could I possibly dine with Mr. Taylor?" Lyric said mockingly, then turned and walked into the executive office.

She didn't have her own office. Walter, perhaps intentionally, had placed her desk in Daniel's office.

He could see her working at any time.

Lyric had planned to treat herself to something nice, but then she remembered her current image as a poor, struggling girl. One lie required countless others to maintain.

She didn't order takeout and decided to go for a walk instead.

There was a 24-hour convenience store downstairs.

She looked at the array of food, each labeled at four dollars a piece. She rarely ate such cheap food. Out of curiosity, she bought some and returned to the office to prepare it.

The smell of instant food was particularly enticing.

She was enjoying her meal when Daniel, in his business suit, walked in. He smelled the food, frowned, and approached. Seeing her eating happily, he frowned even more. "Is this what you're having for lunch?"

"Yes, what's wrong with that?" Lyric looked up, finding his concern odd.

Daniel said, "I gave you a raise. Can't you eat something better?"

Lyric was speechless. She had eaten plenty of good food and just wanted a change.

And he was really overstepping.

When she tried to please him, he was cold. Now that she wasn't trying, he was making small talk.

Lyric sighed, picked up a napkin, wiped her mouth, and said, "Mr. Taylor, I've been putting all my energy and time into work as you asked. But outside of work, what I eat and do is none of your business, right?"

She continued, "By the way, I think you misunderstood. When I invited you to dinner last time, it was just to thank you for your support, nothing more. You said you didn't like me. Well, guess what? I don't like you either. I don't like older men!"
