Chapter 564 These Two Surprises, You Will Never Know

The room fell silent for a while.

Lyric watched him, waiting for him to speak. Was he not even going to bother explaining?

She hurled her notebook at his face, tears streaming down her cheeks as she screamed, "Explain, Daniel! I want an explanation! What do you mean by this? Are you mute? Explain it to me!"

Daniel just stared at her coldly, showing no intention of explaining.

Lyric's voice grew hoarse with anger as she pounded her fists against his chest. "Explain it to me! Tell me I'm not just a replacement! Explain, Daniel, I need you to explain!"

"Would you believe me if I did?" he retorted.

She choked back a sob. "If you explain, I'll believe you."

"You're so naive," he mocked.

Lyric was stunned, forgetting to hit him.

"That's right, I used you as a replacement for Margaret. Didn't you already know? Why are you pretending to be innocent now?" he said with a laugh, the alcohol loosening his tongue.

Lyric slapped him hard across the face. "How dare you treat me like this? What did I do to deserve this? Why didn't you just tell me? You lied to me! Daniel, how could you lie to me?"

She slapped him again.

He grabbed her wrist tightly, making it impossible for her to move.

He gave her a cold smile, one she had never seen before. "You didn't know? How could you not know? Your name is Della, but I called you Margaret."

"You knew your family was poor and wanted to snag a rich man as a shortcut. That's fine. But Della, you took the money and became my pet, and now you're causing a scene? Don't you feel guilty using my credit card?" Daniel sneered, releasing her wrist.

Lyric almost lost her balance, grabbing the table for support.

Tears streamed down her face, her body trembling. "Yes, my name is Della."

She had misunderstood. She always thought he just hadn't remembered her name.

It turned out she was wrong.

"In your eyes, I'm just a woman looking for a shortcut, greedy for your money, right?" Lyric asked through her tears. "I'm just a pet to you. You never thought about dating me or marrying me, did you?"

"That's right," he answered quickly.

But she wasn't ready to give up. "Really?"

"Really."

"You're not lying to me, are you? Daniel, this is important. Think carefully before you answer." She stared at him, pressing him.

She asked five times, and each time, his impatience grew.

Her heart felt like it was being slashed with a knife.

He finally snapped. "Della, don't you have any self-awareness? No matter how many times you ask, I can't give you the answer you want. Look at yourself. Do you think you're worthy of marrying me?"

Was she worthy of marrying him?

Why wouldn't she be?

She thought they were a good match. She didn't mind that he was an illegitimate child, and her family background wasn't great either. Yet he was the one being picky.

Lyric felt like she was about to collapse. She forced a smile, her eyes red and swollen, tears streaming down her face. "Daniel, until today, I thought I chose you because I liked you. But you've let me down so much. Now I think you're right, we're not a good match."

How could an illegitimate child be worthy of being her husband?

How could he be worthy of her having his children?

"Now that you've said your piece, go reflect on it!" His eyes grew colder, and he impatiently ordered her to leave.

Lyric scoffed. "There's nothing to reflect on. Daniel, we're done. I won't take you back. No matter how low I sink, I won't degrade myself to be someone's replacement. Someone as insincere and manipulative as you won't have a good ending."

"Being a bit like Margaret is your good fortune! Don't push it!"

Lyric burst into hysterical laughter, tears blurring her vision, gasping for breath.

"What's so funny?" Her laughter made him uneasy.

Lyric laughed through her tears. "My good fortune? Daniel, do you know that being liked by me is your good fortune? Do you really know who I am? I had two surprises to tell you. You would have been so happy."

One was about her background, the other about her pregnancy. She had planned to tell him once their relationship was stable, then take him to meet her parents in Regal City.

She didn't want to tell him about the baby yet, fearing it would pressure him into marriage. To her, marriage should be about love, not external factors like children or money.

But she never expected that her efforts and a casual joke about being poor would lead him to see her as a gold-digger.

"But now, it doesn't matter. You'll never know those surprises. Because you don't deserve to. You don't deserve it," she murmured.

"I don't want to know. Get out. You don't deserve to be in this house," Daniel said, annoyed by her defiance.

Lyric gave a bitter smile. She would leave, knowing everything now. Even if he didn't tell her to go, she would leave far behind.

She walked out of the room, down the carpeted hallway, her fingers brushing the cold railing, the chill seeping through her fingertips, making her whole body cold.

Her stomach started to ache.

She touched her still-flat belly, taking each step down the stairs, holding back tears, silently comforting her restless baby.

She whispered, "Baby, did you sense my anger? Don't be afraid. Even without a dad, you'll have a mom and grandparents who love you. Come into this world peacefully. This world is so beautiful. I hope you can open your eyes and see it. The flowers in spring are so fragrant, the summer rain so refreshing. The autumn leaves are so red, and the winter snow so beautiful. You have to see it all."

With each step, the pain in her stomach grew.

Suddenly, everything went black, and Lyric tumbled down the stairs like a ragdoll.

Daniel was right behind her, reaching out to grab her arm, but before his hand could touch her fingers, she was already rolling down the stairs.
