Chapter 392: You Are the Bad Man Who Abandons After Seducing
Margaret heard his words, but instead of feeling touched, she felt a pang of sadness. Frustration welled up inside her, and she tried to shake off his arm that was holding her shoulder. "Raymond, if you don't let go, I'm really gonna lose it!"
She was trying so hard to keep her emotions in check, trying not to blow up because she knew he was still recovering. She didn't want to argue with him.
"Finally admitting you're mad?"
With a tug, he pulled her onto his lap, the position awkwardly intimate.
Margaret's eyes turned red as if he had hit a nerve. Hot, helpless tears began to spill from her eyes.
Her throat felt tight and sore.
Raymond reached out to wipe her tears, but before he could touch her face, she angrily swatted his hand away. "I don't need your fake concern. If I had known you were such a heartless jerk, I wouldn't have prayed for you to wake up just so you could bully me."
"Heartless jerk?" Raymond's lips curled into a playful smile.
Seeing him smile only made Margaret angrier. "You promised that after my surgery, we would have our wedding. Now you're going back on your word. If that's not being a heartless jerk, then what is?"
"Raymond, you're just taking advantage of the fact that I like you and that I've lost my memory. You think you can bully me because I don't remember anything, right?" Margaret's voice was choked with tears.
"Listen to me—" Raymond began.
"I don't want to hear your excuses. I've seen through you. You're just a bad man who starts things and never finishes them! All the good things you did for me were fake! You actually despise me because I'm an orphan and have nothing. You think I'm not good enough for you, don't you?" Margaret cried, wiping her tears with the back of her hand.
Raymond looked at her with a smile. "So you have that many complaints about me?"
"What do you think? Raymond, I'm a girl! Do you know how much courage it took for me to suggest we have our wedding? And you just ignored me, treated my words like air! On the way back, you didn't comfort me or explain anything for several minutes! If you hate me and want to back out, just say it. I won't shamelessly cling to you!"
"But you can't take advantage of my feelings and my memory loss to bully me!"
"Aren't I comforting you now?" Raymond reached out again to wipe her tears.
She slapped his hand away again, her face red with anger. "It's too late now. Raymond, you're just taking advantage of my feelings. One day, if I run away, you won't be able to catch me."
Margaret took a deep breath, but the tears kept falling.
Raymond forcefully wiped her tears away. Even though she was the one crying, the pain was in his heart. How could he not love her? How could he not cherish her?
Reaching this point, having these peaceful days, was something he had never dared to dream of. He had risked his life to give her a liver transplant because he wanted to grow old with her.
How could he ever abandon her?
Margaret was the love of his life. He deeply regretted that his hatred had blinded him in the past, causing him to not cherish her and only torment her.
If he could do it all over again, he wouldn't take out his hatred for the Hughes family on Margaret. He would try to let go of his hatred because of his love for her and accept Marlon.
That way, she would have her parents by her side and wouldn't end up an orphan like him.
In life, hatred is an illusion. Life's too short to be consumed by it.
Luckily, fate had given him a chance to make things right. He was ready to spend the rest of his life treating Margaret well, protecting her, loving her, and bringing back her carefree, innocent, and bright self.
But Raymond didn't know that Margaret's angry words would turn out to be a prophecy.
The most mysterious thing about fate is its unpredictability. What you think you can hold onto can slip away in an instant. What you think you've lost might come back to you.
Margaret didn't want him to wipe her tears, but he was too strong, too domineering. She was trapped on his lap.
His slightly rough fingertips touched her face, his tender gaze fixed on her. His long fingers carefully wiped away her tears, one by one.
For some reason, even though he was already softening, already comforting her, already giving her a way out, Margaret felt even more aggrieved. The more he wiped her tears, the more they flowed.
Raymond looked at her indulgently, like she was a child. "Let me finish talking, and then you can cry. Okay?"
"I don't want to listen." Margaret's eyelashes were wet with tears, her voice choked.
He knew she was being contrary. She said she didn't want to listen, but deep down, she craved comfort and attention. From the moment he met Margaret, her little thoughts had never been hard to guess.
Raymond's voice was hoarse and low. "Honey, you're a girl."
"What?" Margaret looked up at him, confused.
His eyes were filled with deep affection. "Girls are princesses, waiting for their knights to propose. Some things, you don't need to say. I know what to do."
Margaret was stunned, touched, and a bit sensitive. Her red nose twitched. "Do you think I'm too forward?"
"No. You have your pride and dignity. The fact that you can set aside your pride for me shows that you truly like me and want to be with me. I'm more than happy."
"Then you have to propose to me, with a ring and a ceremony. Nothing can be missing." Margaret's mood improved significantly, but she still spoke in a deliberately cold voice.
Raymond nodded. "Of course. Once we're out of the hospital and back in Silverbrook, we'll plan it."
"Honey, we owe a lot to Daniel for helping us out, always running around the hospital."
"Call him. Let's have dinner together tonight." Raymond thought for a moment and then spoke.
Margaret hesitated, then declined. "Why don't you have Alvin contact him?"
"Daniel is a good person. I trust you both. You call him." Raymond saw her hesitation and felt even warmer inside. Before she lost her memory, Margaret never cared about his feelings.
Despite his words, Margaret still called Daniel in front of Raymond, putting the call on speaker. Raymond trusted her, and she wanted to be worthy of that trust.
The phone rang, and Daniel answered.
Margaret exchanged a few pleasantries before getting to the point. "Daniel, Raymond and I wanted to invite you to dinner tonight."
"Margaret, David and I have already returned to Silverbrook. There will be plenty of opportunities for dinner. See you next time." Daniel's voice was smiling, and then a secretary asked him to sign something.
Margaret was surprised. "When did you go back? Why didn't you tell us?"
