Chapter 554 Body Pressed Together

"Who do you think you are? Some kind of big shot? Do you even know who she is? She's..."

Lyric's friend was only halfway through her rant when Lyric grabbed her arm and shot her a look. "That's enough."

It didn't matter who she was anymore. She was leaving, and that was all that mattered.

Lyric saw Daniel's face grow colder and more sullen. He must have been chewed out pretty badly, and now he was in a foul mood. It was understandable; he was the CEO of The Taylor Group, used to being the one dishing out the reprimands, not receiving them.

"Lyric—" her friend started again.

Lyric turned to her friend, trying to appear unaffected. "I'm fine. You should go."

As her friend left, she shot Daniel a few venomous glances. "It's all because of you. Lyric's leaving Silverbrook tomorrow. Are you happy now? Satisfied?"

She was leaving...

Daniel was momentarily stunned.

Lyric watched her friend drive away before turning her attention back to Daniel, treating him like he was invisible as she headed toward the mansion.

He grabbed her wrist. "Ms. Vaughn, what are you doing?"

The question was almost laughable. What was she doing? She didn't even know herself. She had slept with him, loved him for years, and yet she had no right to complain or feel wronged.

She could only suffer in silence.

Feeling even more heartbroken, Lyric looked at him for a moment, then decided there was no point in explaining. It was over, and explanations were unnecessary.

Lyric shook off his hand and said coldly, "It's late. I won't keep you, Mr. Taylor. Please leave."

Back at her house, she went upstairs to the bedroom.

She pulled out a suitcase and started quickly throwing clothes from the closet into it.

Daniel followed her upstairs, his face growing darker as he saw her packing. He strode over and grabbed her hand as she reached for more clothes. "What are you so angry about? What are you doing?"

"I just don't want to work anymore. Is that not allowed? Daniel, I didn't sell myself to The Taylor Group. Do I not even have the right to quit? Can you stop being so domineering?" Lyric looked up, laughing bitterly at his tone.

He was always so high and mighty, acting like a leader.

Lyric shook off his hand. "Get out of my way. Don't interfere with my packing."

"What's your reason?" He struggled to contain his anger.

The closet was quickly emptied, and she ignored him.

He couldn't stand being treated like he was invisible. He grabbed her and pinned her against the wall. She tried to escape, but his hand blocked her, forcing her to look at him.

"I'm asking you, what's your reason? Why are you quitting? Gerald was filming normally today. I followed your instructions and didn't give him a hard time. And you're still like this?"

"Thank you, Mr. Taylor." She said it without a hint of gratitude, completely perfunctory.

Daniel laughed in anger. "I gave you a raise, provided you with such a great platform, and you don't appreciate it? Lyric, what are you thinking?"

A raise...

The Taylor Group's platform.

If she were a struggling college student, she might be grateful. But she wasn't. She didn't need the money.

What she needed was his genuine love.

Lyric looked at him for a long time, then spoke wearily, "I want to go back home and get married. Is that reason enough?"

"Your family is forcing you?" His expression softened.

She laughed. "No, I'm doing it willingly."

"Della, how could you give up like this? Accept your fate? You're so young, and instead of focusing on your career, you're rushing to get married? Are you out of your mind?"

Daniel was instantly furious.

He didn't even know why he was so angry.

Lyric was angry too. "Daniel, this is my business! What right do you have to interfere? You were my boss before, and I tolerated you. But not anymore. Do you even know why I'm leaving? If you want me to stay, where's your sincerity? I don't believe you can't see that I like you! If you want me to stay, then date me!"

Tears of heartbreak streamed down Lyric's flushed cheeks.

She saw the complex look in Daniel's eyes and gave a bitter smile. "Do you think I'm shameless? I can be even more shameless. When I saw your promotional photo at school, I fell for you like crazy. You came to our school for a lecture, and I was the host who welcomed you. I even told you my name. Do you remember?"

She had once told Daniel that her name was Lyric.

Daniel thought for a moment, then looked at her apologetically. "Della, I don't remember."

"Of course, you don't remember. Only I was foolish enough to shamelessly approach you, coming to The Taylor Group to be near you. You don't need to feel sorry; it was all my choice." Lyric wiped her tears, giving a beautiful yet tragic smile.

Her eyes were red.

Her throat felt tight, and she choked out, "Recently, I invited you to dinner just to get close to you, to make you notice me. You said I wasn't your type. Daniel, words can hurt. Do you know how much that hurt me? Now I don't want to be hurt anymore. I've accepted reality. If you don't like me, I won't waste my time. Leave. I don't want to see you."

Lyric cried as she pushed Daniel toward the door.

He stood there, unmoving, looking at her with a complex expression.

In her, he saw a reflection of himself, silently loving Margaret for ten years without warming her heart. Such deep affection made him feel guilty.

Was he really going to lose someone like Della?

"Mr. Taylor, please, leave."

Her eyes were filled with tears as she desperately tried to hold back her sobs, pushing him out.

At that moment, Lyric looked so much like Margaret. Her demeanor, her tone.

He didn't want Margaret to be sad!

She going on blind dates, with her conditions, wouldn't find a good match. Her marriage would be doomed to unhappiness... How could he watch her jump into the fire?

Before Lyric could react, Daniel's hand lifted her chin, and he kissed her.

She paused, feeling the urge to give in, but her rationality slowly returned. Was this jerk taking advantage of her again?

What did he take her for?

She struggled, trying to push him away.

Her wrists were firmly held by his large hand, pinned against the cold wall.

His other hand gripped her waist tightly.

Their hot bodies pressed together, with no space between them.

Lyric was naturally unwilling. No matter how he tried to kiss her, she evaded him.
